Master Roman De'von Belcher entered this world chosen of God to become a viable rose in His garden, on Feb. 5, 2004, in Sumter, to his proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. Micheal and Tanya Belcher.
God saw the need to give His born again child rest when He called Roman home to be with Him on Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. God calls home the soul of His little angel to rest with Him.
Survivors left to remember are his parents, Mrs. Tanya and Mr. Micheal Belcher; one caring sister, Brittney Belcher; four loving brothers, Mychal Belcher, Chadse Belcher, Denzel Belcher, Jerrell Conyers, James Conyers; maternal grandparents, Bishop George Brown and Mrs. Essie M. Brown; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Annie Lois; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Eliza Brown; and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends that are deeply grieved by his passing.
Graveside services will be held at 6 p.m. in the Bradford cemetery.

Mrs. Susie Mae Gilyard Nelson, age 91, of Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Summerton, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Temple Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.
Born in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Isam Gilyard and Rebecca McFadden Gilyard. She was the widow of Jule Nelson.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories four sons, Israel Black, Harry Black, Melvin Black and James Nelson, all of Baltimore, Md.; five daughters, Susie Smith, Gloris Bradley, Mary Parker and Justine Nelson, all of Philadelphia, Pa., and Gladys Brailsford of Baltimore, Md.; two stepsons, Johnny Nelson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Willie Nelson of Baltimore, Md.; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Burgess of Sumter, Hattie Nesmith of Tennsauken, N.J., and Carrie Ferby of Camden, N.J.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Final resting place will be in the church cemetery.

SUMMERTON -- Mary Griffin Silver, 80, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at Summerville Medical Center in Summerville.
Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Ervin Theodore and Marie Wells Griffin. She was a member of Summerton Baptist Church. Mrs. Silver was retired chief voucher auditor for the Civil Service, and former part-time secretary for Summerton Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, James Nelson Silver of Charleston and Stephen Phillip Silver of Fernandino Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Paulette S. Gemignani of Houston, Texas, Donna S. Tharp of Charleston and Melony S. Aliffi of Marietta, Ga.; four sisters, Virginia Ardis, Jean Martin Bell and Kenny G. Avin, all of Summerton, and Lynn G. Watkins of Laurens; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Summerton Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. Tom Mellette officiating.

MANNING – Helen Raulerson Billups, 88, widow of Andrew J. Billups, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.
Born July 31, 1915, in Atlanta, she was a daughter of the late John Leslie and Thelma Geneva Anderson Raulerson. She was a retired LPN and a member of Santee Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty "June" Herrington of Manning and Sherbie Lancaster and husband, Jim, of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Carah F. Knight of Manning; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Leslie Knight.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Rev. Jimmy Eldreth will officiate. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Gene Theron Callen, 65, husband of Jean Geddings Callen, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Miller M. Callen Sr. and the late Christine Webb Arants. Mr. Callen was a retired roofer and an avid fisherman. He was a former member of the Gamecock Bass Anglers.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Mitch Callen and Glenn Callen, both of Sumter; a daughter, Betsy Avant and her husband, Dennis, of Beaufort; a brother, Monte Callen Sr. of Lynchburg; two sisters, Fannie Mitchum and Camilla Burke, both of Sumter; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Outreach Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Betty Gainey officiating.

Douglas Peterson Jr., 65, husband of Mary Sue Carter Peterson, died May 10, 2004, at his residence, 415 Arlington Road, Sumter.
Born Aug. 5, 1938, in Sumter County, he was a son of Corine Blanding Peterson and the late Douglas Peterson Sr. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a very active member of Antioch United Methodist Church since childhood, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men Organization, board of trustee and the usher board. He was the past senior warden of Gum Spring Lodge No. 458. He retired from Campbell Soup. Douglas Jr. was owner and operator of Peterson and Son Charter and Tours and a self-employed mechanic.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas (Jerette) of Sumter, Michael (Sharon) of Elgin and Kelvin (LaTisha) of Irvington, Texas; three daughters, Shirley Ann Jefferson (Eddie Jr.), Sandra (Ernest) Isaac and Theresa (Robert) Goodman, all of Sumter; one brother, Cleveland (Louise) Peterson of Roselle, N.J.; three sisters, Mammie Peterson of Sumter, Dorothy (Elijah) McDuffie of Linden, N.J. and Ruby (Alphonso) Oates of Irvington, N.J.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Viola Carter of Sumter; two aunts, Martha Bennett of Sumter and Ida Bradford of Hartsville; two uncles, Thomas (Bessie) Simmons of Woodrow and George Mickens of Hartsville; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Alean Gass.
The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Antioch United Methodist Church, Dubose Siding Road, Sumter, with the Rev. James Mack, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson, eulogist, and the Rev. JoAnn Merrell. Burial will be in Antioch United Methodist Church cemetery, Sumter.
