MT. PLEASANT -- Nell Foxworth Gordon, 84, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, April 2, 2004, at a hospital in Charleston.
Born Aug. 16, 1919, in Salters, S.C., she was the daughter of Preston Newton and Grace Lou Foxworth (nee McDaniel). She was a member of Hibben United Methodist Church where she had served in the Altar Guild and Women's Society and was a member of the Circle of Joy and the Herbert Way Arms Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Basil; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Gordon Johnson; and brother, J. Clarence Foxworth.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn G. and Samuel A. Black of Dalzell, Louise "Weegie" G. and J. Paul Taylor of Mt. Pleasant and Lynda G. and Denny E. Black of Anderson, S.C.; a brother, Preston Newton Foxworth Jr. and his wife Margaret of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Marie F. Gordon of Mt. Pleasant and Kathryn F. Stone and her husband, Clinton, of Penny Farms, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Samuel A. Black Jr. and his wife, Elena, of Boston, Kelli B. Davis and her husband Brad, of Winston-Salem, N.C., John Clay Taylor and Rebecca "Becca" G. Taylor, both of Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at Hibben United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.

ELENORA BENJAMIN DAVIS
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mrs. Elenora Benjamin Davis entered rest on Monday, March 29, 2004, at Long Island College Hospital, Long Island, N.Y.
She was born in Sumter County on Aug. 4, 1922. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Johnny Benjamin and Mrs. Serena James Benjamin. She was the wife of Mr. Nathaniel Davis.
In her youth, she attended the public schools in Sumter County and was a member of Antioch U.M.E. Church, Rimini. Upon moving to New York, she joined Universal Church in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Nathaniel Davis, of the home, Brooklyn; three sons, Mr. Earl Davis of Culver City, Calif., Mr. Joe Davis of Brooklyn and Mr. Henry Davis of Pinewood; three daughters, Mrs. Susie Howard of White Plain, N.Y., Ms. Elaine Davis and Ms. Maxine Davis, both of Brooklyn; three brothers, Mr. Joe Benjamin of New York, N.Y., Mr. Roosevelt Benjamin and Mr. Moses Kennedy, both of Thomasville, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Kennedy of Pinewood, Mrs. Camilla Canty of Rimini, Mrs. Esther McCray of Aiken and Mrs. Dessie McBride of Sumter; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee, Johnny and Sampson Benjamin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 5, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Community Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy T. James officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch U.M.E. Church cemetery in Rimini.
The family is receiving visitors at the home of his sister, Mrs. Sarah Kennedy, 1085 S. Hampton St., Pinewood. Viewing will take place from 3-9 p.m. today.

WALTER S. RICHBOURG
MANNING – Walter Scott Richbourg, 88, widower of Rubye D. Ridgeway Richbourg, died Friday, April 2, 2004, in Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.
Born September 14, 1915, in the Foreston community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Carrie Lou Holladay Richbourg. Mr. Richbourg was a retired farmer. He served as auditor of Clarendon County from July 1967 until his retirement on June 30, 1987. He was elected to the Clarendon County Council in June of 1989 and served until December 31, 1993. He was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of St. Peter's Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Williams-Burgess Post 68.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Sue and Ellis Lane; and his granddaughters, Susan Adelle Lane and Carrie Anna Lane.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Flagler, John and Laford Richburg, and his sisters, Frankie Ridgeway, Irene Haley, Addie Mae Holladay, and Louise Ardis.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Minor officiating. Burial will follow in the Manning cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bobby Richburg, Terry Richburg, Tim Richburg, Donald McCord, Arthur Dean Ridgeway, David Richburg, Kermit Holladay and Carl Galloway.

CLARENCE EDWIN EADON
MANNING -- Clarence Edwin Eadon, 92, widower of Dorothy Elizabeth Bomar Eadon, died April 4, 2004, at his home in Manning.
Born on Nov. 12, 1911, in Summerton, he was the fifth of seven children of Julius Romey Eadon and Marian Estelle Rowe Eadon. He was a 1929 graduate of Manning High School and attended the University of South Carolina. An avid Gamecock fan, he was a lifetime member of the USC Alumni Association and the Gamecock Club. He married
Dorothy Elizabeth Bomar on Oct. 17, 1934. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before her death in 1985. Mr. Eadon enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and attained the rank of chief petty officer while stationed in San Diego, where he remained throughout World War II. Following his military service, he joined his father in business, operating a grocery/general store, Peoples Store. The store was later expanded into a furniture and appliance business. As an active member of Manning Rotary Club for many years, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Master Mason of St. Peter's Lodge 54 in Manning and a member of the Williams-Burgess Post 68 of the American Legion. He was a faithful member of Manning United Methodist Church, where he held many offices and led the singing for the men's bible class. He was also a member of the men's choir.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Julius Alton Eadon, Marion Leroy Eadon and Julius Romey Eadon; three sisters, Margaret Eadon, Thelma Ervin and Gladys Lawson; a grandson, Kyle Edwin Robertson; and a step-grandson, Lt. Cmdr. Michael Dallas Chalfant.
He is survived by four daughters, Margaret Robertson (Jerry) of Manning, Dotty McFaddin (Ansel) of Manning, Claire Eadon of Charleston and Jackie Chalfant (Mike) of Columbia; six grandchildren, Jay Robertson (Celeste), Maj. Gerald Robertson (Jennifer), Dr. Ansel McFaddin III (Dr. Jennifer), Frances Moody (Scott), Mike Fink (Donnah), Paul Butler (Elena) and Neel Lesesne (George); 17 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, retired Col. Hobby J. Bomar (Monique) of Belgium; three sisters-in-law, Ceil Eadon of Manning, Camilla Eadon of the Methodist Oaks and Mary Bomar of Columbia.
The family wishes to acknowledge these beloved and dedicated caregivers: Josephine White, Angie Hodge, Blossom McBride, Barbara Pugh, Debra Amerson and Azalea Hilton.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Manning United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debra Quilling officiating. Burial will follow in Manning cemetery.

KINGSTREE -- Mrs. Edith Kathleen McAlister Floyd, 82, widow of Wayne Floyd, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in a Kingstree hospital.
Mrs. Floyd was born July 1, 1921, in Cordele, Ga., a daughter of the late Johnny Elexander McAlister and Edith Marion Hall McAlister. She was a member of Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church and a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, Earl Floyd of Kingstree and David Floyd of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Louise Cox of Kingstree and Patricia Strong of Suttons; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Prosser of Rome, Ga., Sylvia Barino and Dora Lee, both of Florence; and one brother, Johnny McAlister of Pamplico.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home.

Arthur Gerard Tips, 20, beloved son of the late Earl Tips Sr. and Catherine Neal Tips, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Sumter.
Arthur was a 2001 graduate of Lakewood High School. He was employed by Gold Kist Inc. He received a welding certificate from Central Carolina Technical College. In his youth, he received Christ as his savior and became a member of The Holy House of Prayer.
Survivors are his beloved mother, Catherine Tips of Sumter; two daughters, Malasia Mona Tips and Shakira Amour Tips of Sumter; one sister, Delores Tammy Tips of Sumter; one brother, Earl (Prencess) Tips Jr. of Sumter; grandparents, Alexander and Ruth Neal of Sumter; two maternal great-grandmothers, Daisy Neal of New York City and Earlene Howard of Sumter; one aunt, Blondina (Randy) Johnson of Sumter; two uncles, Ulysses (Sallie) Neal of Sumter and Alexander Neal III of Houston; five great-aunts; four great-uncles; seven nieces; three nephews; several special friends, Latasha Ham, Denard Reid, Darren Reid, John "B.J." Turner and Priscilla Johnson; and a host of cousins and relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at The Holy House of Prayer, Highway 15 South, Sumter with the pastor, Elder Edmund Johnson, officiating, assisted by Elders Thomas Davis and David Davis and Ministers Richard Dukes and Betty Neal. Burial will be in the church ceremony.
Flower bearers and pallbearers will be co-workers, classmates and friends.

WILLIE LAVAIN MILLER
MAYESVILLE -- Willie Lavain Miller Sr., 90, widower of Ada Lagrant Miller, died April 1, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born May 21, 1913, in the Mayesville section of Sumter County, he was a son of the late Robert Miller and Mary Ann White Miller. He received his formal education in the Goodwill Parochial School in Mayesville. At an early age, he joined Goodwill Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee and the United Presbyterian Men Organization. He was also a lifelong farmer in Mayesville.
Survivors include one son, Willie (Norma) Grant of Elizabeth, N.J.; two daughters, Sara Nell (Kelly) McFadden of Washington, D.C., and Ada Lyn (Sylvester "Buck") Jones of the home; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Miller was preceded in death by his wife, Ada L. Miller, and a son, William Lavain Miller Jr.
The remains will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwill Presbyterian Church, Mayesville, with the Rev. Richard Baxter, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Dr. Franklin D. Colclough and Carnell Hampton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be trustees and Presbyterian Men.

OLANTA -- Mrs. Marie Gurtrue Lawhon, 81, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at her residence after an illness.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Bethany Free Will Baptist Church cemetery conducted by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
Born in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Bob Sims and Emma Reynolds Sims. Mrs. Lawhon was a retired seamstress from the textile industry. She was a member of the Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Duncan W. Lawhon; one sister, Missouri Holden; and two brothers, John Sims and Joe Sims.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Etta Barnes of Summerton; one son, Woodrow D. (Linda) Lawhon of Olanta; one sister, Myrtle Jeffcoat of Columbia; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
