THELMA D. BROWN
LEXINGTON -- Thelma Dollard Brown, 94, widow of Thomas Herbert Brown Sr., died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Presbyterian Home in Lexington after a brief illness.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Harry Dollard and the late Olivia Newman Dollard. Mrs. Brown was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sumter for most of her life. She was a legal secretary and office manager with Levi & Wittenberg law firm for 45 years, a past master of the Brogden Grange and moved to Presbyterian Home in 1986. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Herbert Brown Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Sumter; her daughter, Vicki Brown Rowan of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, James Richard Rowan and his wife, Rebecca Morris Brown, of Columbia and Bryan Brown of LaPorte, Texas; two granddaughters, Wendy Brown Cole and Samantha Brown Christian, both of LaPorte, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Fran Bragan and the Rev. Dr. Ed McLeod officiating.
Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

JOSEPH BRADLEY Sr.
Deacon Joseph Bradley Sr., 75, husband of Queen Ethel Branch Bradley, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Rev. Sammie and Rebecca Taylor Bradley. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, he joined Tiverton Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the male choir, gospel choir, brotherhood, trustee board, deacon board and usher board. After 31 years of service, he retired from Korn Industries.
Survivors besides his wife include one son, Joseph (Betty) Bradley Jr. of Sumter; one daughter, Rachel Lee Murray of Sumter; 15 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and two sisters.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter 29150.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tiverton Missionary Baptist Church, Wedgefield, with the Rev. J.H. Pringle, pastor, assisted by Elder Roosevelt Boyd, the Rev. O. Donald Dingle and Minister John Cunningham.
Burial will be in Tiverton Church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 4810 Chanson Lane, Sumter.

MICHAEL T. HURSEY
LEXINGTON -- Michael Teal Hursey, age 61, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington.
Mr. Hursey was born in Conway, youngest of three boys, a son of the late Dr. Archibald Wesley and Shellie Mae Moffit Hursey. He graduated from Conway High School, attended the University of South Carolina and Mercer University School of Pharmacy. Mr. Hursey lived in Conway and Marathon, Fla., for many years. He was recently employed at Timberlake Golf Course in Chapin.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Teal Hursey Jr. of Myrtle Beach, Lt. Cmdr. Mark Lamar Hursey of Guam and Matthew Douglas Hursey of Melbourne, Fla.; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Hubbard of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Dr. A.W. Hursey Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and Bernie S. Hursey of Conway; and two grandchildren, Alexander James Hubbard and Ashley Margaret Hubbard, both of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, with the Rev. Don Stiens officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

ROBERT NELSON
ALCOLU -- Robert "Teddy" Nelson, 59, companion of Sadie Adger Hayes, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at 1102 Tearcoat Road, Alcolu.
Born March 7, 1944, in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Levi Nelson Sr. and Cardiver Frierson Nelson. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a 1964 graduate of Manning Training School. He was an employee of Square D for 25 years. He served in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge. In his youth, he joined Reeseville AME Church.
Survivors besides his companion, Sadie A. Hayes of the home, include two sons, Robert Lee Nelson Jr. of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Bernard Nelson of Largo, Fla.; one stepson, Reggie Hayes of Paxville; two stepdaughters, Melissa Hayes of Lithonia, Ga., and Michelle Mahoney of Sumter; four brothers, Grant Lee Nelson of New York City, William Levi Nelson Jr. of Sumter, Selvin (Barbara) Nelson of Alcolu and Larry Nelson of Manning; five sisters, Lillie Kelly of Manning, Inez (Franklin) Simmons of Alcolu, Emma (Raymond) Larris of Baltimore, Phozia Jackson and Barbara Nelson, both of New York City; and seven step-grandchildren.
The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Reeseville AME Church, Alcolu, with the Rev. Marie Harvin, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. Mitchel Adger and the Rev. W.J. Chandler.
Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

CAMDEN -- Lillie Mae Coleman, 50, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Kershaw County Medical Center.
Born June 23, 1952, in Greenville, she was a daughter of George Coleman and Victoria Davis Coleman.

SUSIE JACKSON
Susie Jackson, 60, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Sumter County.

NORRIS P. YOUNG
Norris Plowden Young, 36, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1967, in Ft. Pierce, Fla., he was a son of Eugene Young and the late Flossie Plowden.

GEORGE T. PRINGELS
George Theodore Pringels, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Theodore A. Pringels and the late Helen Touloupus Pringels. Mr. Pringels was a retired U.S. Air Force staff sergeant with 20 years of service and was a Korean War veteran.
Surviving are four brothers, Thomas T. Pringels and wife, Elsie, Gus T. Pringels and wife, Ruby, Johnny T. Pringels and Jimmy T. Pringels, all of Sumter; two nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Pringels.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sumter cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

Willey L. "Joe" Mallette died Friday morning, Jan. 23, 2004, at the Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.
Born in Pinewood, on June 29, 1954, he was a son of the late Clarence Mallette and Dorcas Madison Self.

MANNING -- Ella Murray Calvin, 79, widow of Jasper Calvin, died Jan. 27, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
Born Oct. 27, 1924, in the Westminister section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late George Murray and Charity Hilton Murray.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Alice "Pam" Lewis, 201 E. Hospital St., Apt. 7-G, and at the home of her caregiver, Evonne N. Tindal, where she resided, 201 E. Hospital St., Apt. 7-D, Manning.

ALLAN L. EDWARDS
Allan Lee Edwards, age 71, husband of the late Naka Sasako Edwards, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Edwards was born in Batavia, N.Y., son of the late Carlyle Wilson and Juanita Aldridge Edwards. He was retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service and served during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He later retired from Santee Print Works. He attended Bethesda Church of God.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth Edwards and his wife, Cheryl, of Sumter, James Edwards of Burtonsville, Md., and John Edwards and his wife, Becky Choi, of Alexandria, Va.; four daughters, Joyce Welch and her husband, Tommy, of Manning, Kathy Edwards of Knoxville, Md., Barbara Edwards of Leesburg, Va., and Sarah Krish and her husband, Richard, of Sumter; four sisters, Marilyn Snyder, Carolyn Parton, Evelyn Krauss and Jean Farrar, all of New York; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Church of God with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bethesda Church of God Men's Fellowship.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
