Mr. Caston died Sunday, October 27, 2002. Born in Lee County, SC, he was a son of the late Louie and Alene DuBose Caston. He was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church and retired as a plumber.

Surviving are his wife, Delane Gregory Owens Caston of Lamar, SC; son, Wade Caston of Lamar, SC; daughters and son-in-law, Margaret C. Morris of Joanna, SC, Dolly C. and Ralph Dixon of Ft. Pearce, FL; step - son, Ben Owens of Lamar, SC; step - daughters and step - son-in-law, Bonnie Hudson of Durham, NC, Jean and Henry Howell of Gainesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Vernon Howell of Timmonsville, SC; 12 grandchildren. His first wife, Elizabeth Caston, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Boyd Warren (Flyboy) Curry, 77, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. John Hamilton will officiate with burial in Florence National cemetery directed by Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 29, 2002 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Curry died Sunday, October 27, 2002. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was a son of the late Boston Nelson and Minnie Scissom Curry. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II, was the owner/operator of Curry's Flying Service as an ariel applicator, and after retiring in 1984, he served as the Darlington County Veterans Affairs Service Officer until his death. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, and the Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife, Nellie Groves Curry of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Boyd Warren and Susan Curry, Jr. of Longwood, FL, James Earl and Mamie Curry of Mobile, AL, David Norman and Melissa Curry of Hartsville, SC, William Gary Curry of Hartsville, SC; sister, Virginia Glenn of Gastonia, NC; brother, James Curry of Mount Holly, SC; 9 grandchildren; 2 great - grandchildren.

Betty Amerson Gainey

Mrs. Gainey died Sunday, October 27, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Mattie Munn Amerson. She was a member of Beuford Baptist Church, retired from Byerly Hospital after 30 years as a switchboard operator, and has lived in Simpsonville since 1994.

Surviving are her husband, Harold L. (Buck) Gainey of Simpsonville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kim Gainey of Simpsonville, SC; sisters, Grace Singletary of Timmonsville, SC, Annette Ballard of Hartsville, SC; brothers, Bud Amerson of Hartsville, SC, David Amerson, Jr. of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Kevin Gainey, Jason Gainey, Brad Gainey. She was preceded in death by her brother James Amerson, her sister Mary Key, and her sister Ruby Howle.

Mrs. Kelly died Tuesday, October 22, 2002. Born in Emporia, KS, she was a daughter of William E. and Carol Laegeler Davis. She was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church.

Mr. Moore died Thursday, October 31, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was the son of Tessie (Doll) Segars Moore and the late Robert Eddie Moore, Sr. He was a member of the First Pres - byterian Church. He received his Bach - elor of Science degree in Entomology and Masters of Agriculture degree from Clemson University. He was president of Agriservices, Inc. and Pee Dee Warehouse, Inc., Bishopville, SC. He was a producer delegate to the National Cotton Council, member of the Board of Directors for the Southern Cotton Growers Association, past president of the SC Cotton Consultants, and in 1988 was named the Cotton Farming Con - sultant of the Year.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Dunlap Moore of Hartsville, SC; son, Robert E. Moore, III of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Jon Byrd of Hartsville, SC; mother, Doll Moore of Hartsville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Danny Hall of Hartsville, SC; grandmother, Tessie Woodham Segars of Hartsville, SC.

William Alfred Cannon

Mrs. Vickery, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002. Born in Ridley Park, PA, she was a daughter of the late Sydney Columbus and Margaret Reed Paul Long. She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired as office manger for the WHSC Radio Station.

Surviving are her husband, Laverne D. Vickery of Hartsville; daughters, Margaret Friedmann of New Orleans, LA, Jeanne Eckert of Roanoke, VA and Elizabeth Rush of West Grove, PA; son, Harold William Hager, III of Athens; brother, Robert Long of Charlotte, NC; 12 grandchildren.

Mrs. Huggins, widow of James L. Huggins, died Sunday, November 10, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Maggie Kelly Griggs. She was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, John L. and Ruby Huggins of Union, SC, MacArthur and Ruth Huggins, Leland and Kathy Huggins, Wade and Christine Huggins, Glynn and Deborah Huggins, all of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Juanita Brown of Patrick, SC, Maggie Usher of Hartsville, SC; Maxine McCaskill of McBee, SC, Frances Griggs of Hartsville, SC; sister, Essie Huggins of Hartsville, SC, 26 grandchildren; 38 great - grandchildren; 18 great - great grandchildren; 2 great - great - great grandchildren. She was preceded in death three grandchildren.

Mrs. Gandy, widow of Marion M. Gandy, Sr., died Thursday, November 14, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jamie M. and Florrie Gardner Byrd. She graduated from Hartsville High School and Florence Business College. She was previously employed by Coker Wholesale and was a dedicated homemaker.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Harry J. and Debra Gandy of Boone, NC, Marion "Bud" and Deborah Gandy of Hartsville, SC, Jamie B. and Sheila Gandy of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Alyce Dell Gandy of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Harry Gandy, Will Gandy, Moore Gandy, Wallis Gandy, Ashley Wilmeth.

Collin Odell Best

Mr. Best died Monday, November 18, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late George and Hattie Fields Best. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, retired from Dupont after 27 years, was former pastor of Lake Robinson Baptist Church, and served as interim pastor of many other churches in Darlington County.

Surviving are his wife, Katie Walters Best of Lydia, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Bobby Goff of Lydia, SC; son, Mike Best of Lydia, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeryl and Frances Best of Lydia, SC, Glenn and Bonnie Best of Sumter, SC; 7 grandchildren; 5 great - grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father George Best, and his mother Hattie Best.

Caroline Segars Will

Hartsville, SC
Memorial services for Caroline Segars Will, 84, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Kelleytown Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Anderson will officiate and Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the Kelleytown Baptist Church Music Suite Fund, 2609 Kelleytown Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Will, widow of Edward Jacob Will, died Friday, November 22, 2002. Born in the Kelleytown Community, she was a daughter of the late Goznold Gillum and Terah Gardner Segars. She received a bachelor's degree in music from Coker College, and did graduate work at New York University, Converse College and the University of South Carolina. She taught public school music in Ashwood, Marion, Columbia, and Hartsville and retired after 29 years of service.

In 1927, Mrs. Will joined Kelleytown Baptist Church. For more than 50 years (1952), she was active in the music program at the church, organizing and directing choirs, playing the piano and organ, arranging music, and teaching accompanists. She took the church choirs to Hymn Festivals for many years. She also taught Sunday school, Bible School, Training Union, and Bible Drill and was a member of the Ruth Kelley Sunday School Class and Baptist Women.

Mrs. Will served as president of the Hartsville Music Study Club and the Hartsville Arts Council. While serving as president for the Hartsville Community Concert Association, she was instrumental in establishing it as an independent organization and for six years, she was responsible for scheduling the artists. Mrs. Will was a member of the Darlington County Historical Society, the Jacob Kelley House Guild, and the National Education Association. She was one of the first recipients of the Elizabeth Bush Distinguished Service Award because of her many areas of involvement in the community.

Mrs. Will remained a life - long teacher and learner and took great pleasure in doing things for others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Susan Martin Will of Columbia, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Lou Norment of Hartsville, SC; brother, Rev. Judson Segars of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Caroline Norment, Louis Norment, Caleb Will, Gabriel Will.

Tracy Lee Brown

Hartsville, SC
Graveside services for Tracy Lee Brown, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2002 at Gum Branch Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Tommy Browne will officiate and Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 8, 2002 from 5 - 7 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Brown, widower of Sadie Howle Brown, died Friday, December 6, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late John H. and Nancy Hall Brown. He attended Gum Branch Baptist Church, retired from Sonoco after 33 years, and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timer's Club.

Surviving are his son, Dick Brown of Hartsville, SC; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Eloise Browne of Hartsville, SC; grandson, Gregg Brown of Hartsville, SC.
