REMBERT - Steve L. Holliday Sr., 81, of Rembert died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003.
Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Johnny and Estell Walley Holliday. He was married
to Victoria Rhabb Holliday.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Pine Grove AME Church with burial in Union Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. Holliday will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to services.

REMBERT - Mrs. Cynthia Ann Thomas, age 42, died Nov. 4, 2003, at her home after an illness.

Jacquline Marie Urquhart, age 54, died Nov. 6, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 25, 1949, in Sumter.
Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.
SILAS D. FREEMAN
MANNING - Silas David Freeman, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at his home in Manning.
Born May 12, 1925, in Manning, he was a son of the late Lewis James and Bertha Rebecca Locklair Freeman. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine.
Surviving are his wife, Harriett Rebecca Evans Freeman of Manning; four sons, Eddie D. Freeman, Lonnie and special daughter-in-law, Kathy L. Freeman, Tommy L. Freeman and Arthur Lyles Freeman, all of Manning; two daughters, Helen F. Timmons of Manning and Edna Thigpen of Walterboro; four sisters, Lila Way of Summerville, Addie Hilton of Mt. Pleasant, Bertha Henderson of Charleston and Thelma Howard of Hanahan; eight grandchildren; one special great - grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Eddie Freeman and William Marvin Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Brewington Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 4073 N. Brewington Road.

THOMAS McBRIDE Jr.
Thomas McBride Jr., 66, husband of Eartha Lee McBride, died Nov. 7, 2003, at Mariner Health of Sumter East.
Born July 5, 1937, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Thomas McBride Sr. and Lucinda James McBride.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Rachel Scott Ritter, 3490 Tram Road, Sumter 29153.

ROLAND S. RAWLS
HOPE MILLS, N.C. - Roland Sterling Rawls, 70, husband of Hilda Rawls, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at the Fayetteville Specialty Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C.
Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Arthur C. Rawls and the late Zula Whichard Rawls.
Mr. Rawls was a member of Eason Memorial Baptist Church and a mason. He retired from CSX Railroad.
Surviving are his wife of Hope Mills, N.C.; a son, Wolfgang Hoell of Munchen, Germany; five daughters, Mary - Katherine Rawls and Lisa R. Johnson, both of Rocky Mount, N.C., Patricia Ross, Frances Sawyer and Kathy Martin, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Estelle Kinard and Helen Brown, both of Sumter; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Eason Memorial Baptist Church, Eastover, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Painter and the Rev. Michael Smathers officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

JACQULINE M. URQUHART
Jacquline Marie Urquhart, age 54, beloved wife of William Charles Urquhart, died on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
She was born in Sumter, the daughter of Newell Faulling Floyd and the late Frank Floyd Jr. She attended St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are five sons, Keith Floyd Schilke of Richmond, Va., John Kevin Urquhart of Sumter, Steven Smith of Yukon, Okla., Tony Urquhart and Chris Urquhart, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers, Phillip Floyd of Jacksonville, Fla., and James Edward "Eddie" Floyd of Sumter; four sisters, Julie Floyd Berry, Robin Floyd McElveen, Linda Floyd Cantlon, all of Sumter, and Ann Floyd Thornton of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a number of grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Bullock with the Rev. Roy Bowman officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.
ADDIE MARTIN ALEXANDER
BISHOPVILLE - Addie Martin Alexander, 79, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at her home.
Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Angus Martin and the late Nellie Elmore Martin.
She was a member of Bishopville Presbyterian Church and attended Hephzibah Presbyterian Church. She was retired from the Garden Gate Gift Shop.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlene A. Shealy of Florence; a son, Charles M. "Marty" Alexander; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hephzibah Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Rev. Tom Kellam officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.

BOB DYSON
FLORENCE - Bob Dyson, 103, husband of Hazel Lewis Dyson and previously husband of the late Sallie Greene Dyson, died Thursday, November 6, 2003, at Commander Nursing Home in Florence.
Born Oct. 16, 1900, in the "Fort Watson Community of Summerton, he was a son of the late Ravenel and Sylvia Dyson.
He attended the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a member of Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church in Summerton. He worked on the railroad and as a farmer. He also worked construction as a bridge builder. He helped construct bridges on I - 95 and Highway 301. He was also a member of St. Luke Masonic Lodge #271 of Pamplico. For many years after his retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid lover of various animals which he raised.
Survivors besides his wife include: six sons, James, Gar, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Willie Dyson of Conyers, Ga., Joe Dyson, Elijah M. Mention and the Reverend Dr. Bubby Dyson, all of Florence, and Aaron Dyson of Atlanta; eight daughters, Annie M. Brooks and Willene Reagin, both of Florence, Evelyn Oliver of Darlington, Hazel Woodbury of Olanta, Earlene Dickerson and Lillie Brown, both of Summerton, Willa Mae Scott of Manning and Dorothy Mae Bostick of Pamplico; 55 grandchildren, 86 great - grandchildren and 34 great - great - grandchildren.
The deceased was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Dyson Livingston.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church in Summerton with the Rev. Malachi L. Duncan, Pastor, officiating and eulogist the Rev. Dr. Bubby Dyson. The Revs. Sally Lester, Henry Mitchell and Minister Gip Livingston will assist.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Floral bearers will be granddaughters.

NEW ZION - Mr. William (Bill) Gamble, 63, of New Zion, passed from this life into the merciful and loving presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday night, Nov. 4, 2003, after a brief illness. He was convalescing with his daughter and her family in Lexington. A memorial service for Mr. Gamble will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2003. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Pearline Bennett, 74, died Nov. 7, 2003, at Wesley Care Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born Feb. 11, 1929, in Willington, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Juria and Loula Carpenter.

Joseph D. Barkley, 71, husband of Letha A. Barkley, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of Marie McLeod Barkley and the late Louie Barkley.
He was self - employed for the majority of his life.
Survivors besides his mother and his wife, both of Sumter, include a son, Glenn Barkley of Sumter; a grandson, Bobby Joe Barkley of Sumter; two sisters, Ann Barkley Hinson and her husband, Curtis, of Columbia and Margaret Barkley Avins and her husband, Charles, of Sumter.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louie Barkley Jr., William "Bubba" Barkley and Jack Barkley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Timmons officiating.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Thomas McBride of Amherst, Mass., Robert McBride of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michael McBride of Sumter; one daughter, Ruth McBride of Syracuse, N.Y.; two brothers, Ellison McBride and his wife, Jeanette, and Roosevelt Ingram and his wife, Mary, both of Sumter; five sisters, Rachel Ritter and her husband, George, Rosa Seymore and her husband, Charles, Betty Montgomery and Willie Mae Sharpe, all of Sumter, and Nora Lee McBride of Bronx, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Tuesday at New Birth Church of God in Christ with Elder Julius C. Ragin, pastor, officiating. The body will lie in state beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Wells cemetery.
