ANDERSON, SC -- Mrs. Minnie Audrey Wilson Clarke, age 87, of 104 Cameron Way, Anderson, SC, wife of the late Edward P. Clarke, died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Spartanburg County, SC on November 5, 1915, Mrs. Clarke was the daughter of the late Ben W. Wilson and Annie Johnson Wilson. She was retired from textiles and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia C. Heard and her husband, Nardin M. Heard of Anderson, SC, and Betty C. Taylor and her husband, James R. Taylor of Elizabethton, TN; brother, Wallace Wilson of Greer, SC; three sisters, Maggie Sue Broome, Frances Edens and Margaret Johnson, all of Greer, SC; eight grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharron C. Wilson; a grandson, Lewis LaThair Wilson; four brothers, Avery, Golden, Enoch and Fred Wilson and a sister, Marie Bridges.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Gene Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.
The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home where the family received friends for 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2003.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Patricia Heard, 104 Cameron Way, Anderson, SC.

PIEDMONT -- Barbara Jean Gambrell Jones, 58, of 130 Moore Lane died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Piedmont, she was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Elizabeth Jones Sunday school class.
Surviving are widower, William Donald Jones of the home; sons, William "Bill" Eugene Jones of Easley and Donald Scott Jones of the home; sisters, Lib Turner and Carolyn Belland, both of Piedmont; and seven grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Eugene Rosell and Mary Adams Gambrell.
Graveside services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery with the Revs. Leon Porter, Mike Wolff and Mark Pollard officiating.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
Bennie White
Feb. 28, 1928 -- Sept. 30, 2003
SENECA -- Bennie Clyde White, 75, of 8684 West Oak Highway died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, he was employed by Davis Electrical until his retirement. He was a member of the Cross Roads Fire Department and was in the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army Artillery Division. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are widow, Janie Frady White of the home; sons, Mike White of Seneca, Terry White of Denver, N.C. and Donnie "Big-Un" White of the home; brothers, Thurman White and Winfred White; sisters, Lois Burns, Rudine Holliday, Dot Evans and Verilla Holliday; and four grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Lewis A. and Nora Barker White. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest, Harvey, Lloyd and Herman White; and two sisters, Hazel White and Etrulia Jackson.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Cross Roads Baptist Church; burial will follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Friday before the service. The body is at Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Charles J. Heaton
March 4, 1927 -- Sept. 29, 2003
ANDERSON -- Charles J. Heaton, 76, of 1519 S. Main St. died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at his residence.
Born in Hendersonville, N.C., he was formerly employed by Cranston Print Works in Hendersonville, N.C. He was a retired Baptist minister and was a member of Canaan Baptist Church.
Surviving are widow, Evelyn Duncan Heaton of the home; son, Gary Heaton of Hendersonville; daughter, Ann Arey of Arden, N.C.; brothers, Arnold Heaton and Gene Heaton, both of Hendersonville; sisters, Helen Camp and Beatrice Camp, both of Hendersonville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Charlie Heaton and Reatha Pruitt Heaton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Heaton.
Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Canaan Baptist Church by the Revs. Jerry Parnell, Carl Mintz and Tommy Alewine; burial will be in New Silverbrook Cemetery, Anderson. The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Canaan Baptist Church.

Jason James "Bug" Ashley, Jr.
LEVEL LAND -- Jason James "Bug" Ashley, Jr., 68, of 1736 Keowee Rd., Iva, S.C., died Monday, September 29, 2003, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was the son of the late Jason and Addie McClain Ashley.
Surviving Mr. Ashley are two sisters, Mrs. John (Gerri) Beauford of Abbeville, and Mrs. Bill (Caroline) Ellis of Antreville; one brother, James F. Ashley of Level Land; one niece, Jeanette Ellis of Abbeville; four nephews, Johnny Beauford of Abbeville, Ronnie Ashley, Donnie Ashley, both of Level Land, and Mike Ellis of Marietta, GA.
Funeral services will be (TODAY) 11:00AM Wednesday, October 1st at Little River Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Frankie McClain and Dr. Bob Miller. Mr. Ashley will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to the service.

PENDLETON -- John Lewis Mathews, 88, of 6711 Liberty Highway died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at his residence.
Born in Anderson County, he was a retired textile worker at Pendleton Finishing Plant. He was a member of Barnett Masonic Lodge No. 106, and Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 34. He was a member of Cannon Baptist Church in Central and attended the Crossway Community Church.
Surviving are daughter, Norma Jean Tench of Anderson; adopted daughters, Cathey McAlister of Pendleton, Donna Elaine Hickey of Seneca and Peggy Owens of Westminster; son, Francis Earl Mathews of Eldorado, Kansas; brother, Charlie J. Mathews of Pendleton; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was the widower of Catherine Martin Mathews and the son of the late Charlie and Leona Kelly Mathews. He was preceded in death by two sisters Ida Mae McKnight and Ruby Lee Morgan.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, by the Rev. C.W. Hicks; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with masonic rite. The body is at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 S.C. 81 North, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

WESTMINSTER -- Michael David Megel, 67, of 392 Beech Drive died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Omaha, Neb., he was a retired supervisor with AT&T and attended St. Paul's Catholic Church in Seneca.
Surviving are widow, Shirley Kay Adair Megel of the home; sons, Michael Jay Megel of Suwanee and Timothy James Megel of Lawrenceville; daughters, Kristie Kay Megel Kocourek of Durham, N.C., Cynthia Ann Megel Presson of Camden, Tenn., Mary Lynne Megel Williams of Lawrenceville and Sherry Marie Megel Silva; sister, Michele Ann Megel Meyer; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Woodrow W. and Lola Esther Phifer Megel. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Tyler Rain Middleton.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ramsey Creek Preserve with Father Bill Eden officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Centenarian dies
Feb. 7, 1931 -- Sept. 30, 2003
TOWNVILLE, SC -- Mr. Herschel James Welch, age 72, husband of Sylvia Ham Welch of 344 Maret Road, Townville, SC, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, SC.
Born in Florence County, SC on February 7, 1931, Mr. Welch was a son of the late Foster M. Welch and Ada Carraway Welch. He was a graduate of Elim High School and attended Wingate Junior College. He was the owner and operator of Welco Supply, at 1508 Whitehall Road in Anderson, SC. He was a United States Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elk, Civitan and Lions Clubs. He was a member of Townville Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Ham Welch of the home; daughter, Angela Welch Pitts and her husband, Jeff L. Pitts of Anderson; brother, Bobby Joe Welch and his wife, Betty Welch of Timmonsville, SC; two sisters, Jacqueline W. Langston and her husband, Franklin Langston of Timmonsville, SC, Launa W. Odom and her husband, Jack Odom of Florence, SC; brother-in-law, H. Ray Ham and his wife Linda S. Ham of West Columbia, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice W. Langston.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2003 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Rev. M. S. Douglas and Dr.David Rountree officiating. Interment will follow in Townville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Townville, SC.

SENECA -- Nellie Mae Sanders Frady, 88, of Seneca died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Mariner Health Care of Seneca.
She was born in Seneca.
Surviving are son, Jack Frady of Seneca; sister, Ruth Crenshaw of Seneca; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Riley Reed Frady and the daughter of the late Lawrence and Maggie Foster Sanders.
Services are at 3 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. C. Von Reynolds; burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
