RACHEL BLANTON
Seneca, SC - Rachel Kirkpatrick Lowry Blanton died April 7, 2007 at her home. She was born in Seneca on June 19, 1916 to the late Ethel Kirkpatrick and Bright Anderson Lowry. She graduated from Lander College, worked with family service agencies in Colleton, and Oconee Counties, and taught school for a time in Calhoun Falls. She was married to the late Lieutenant Rex Leroy Blanton of Mosheim, Tennessee July 27, 1941 in Seneca and shortly thereafter relocated to Pope Air Field in Fayetteville, NC. At the conclusion of his military service Mrs. Blanton became affiliated with the Oconee County School system in the Seneca area schools first as a classroom teacher and later as librarian.
As a lifetime member of the Seneca Presbyterian Church she was involved in church school activities, library, church historian for a period of time, and served as Circle chairman. Mrs. Blanton was also a third generation member of the Once-A-Week Club as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames. She served on the Oconee Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees for 6 years. Mrs. Blanton was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased in the death by her parents and her two brothers, Milton and Bright Lowry, Jr. Her survivors include her three children Rachel B. Kraske of Ranier, Oregon, Melinda B. Harper and Rex L. Blanton, Jr. both of Seneca, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Blanton enjoyed gardening, reading, and genealogical research.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at The Seneca Presbyterian Church. Seneca – Sylvester “MAW” Mamie Pointer Blakely, 87 of 798 Mundy Lane, formerly of S. Townville St., Ext., died Saturday, April 07, 2007 at her residence.
Born in Oconee County on May 21, 1919 to the late Jim and Cornelia Stone Pointer she was a retired nurse at Oconee Memorial Hospital and a homemaker. Mrs. Blakely was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.
Surviving is son G. W. Blakely and wife Mary, daughter Mary Alice Sanders and husband Jimmy, brothers Reverend Carl Pointer all of Seneca and Clarence Pointer of Atlanta, GA., sister Lila Nix of Westminster, ten grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, husband George William Blakely and daughter and son-in-law Virginia and Harold Bryant precede her in death.
Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, April 10, 2007 from the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at South Union Baptist Church.

Walhalla – Roger Dale Moore, 41 of 1090 Stribling Shoals Rd., died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 in Seneca.
Born in Oconee County on June 25, 1965 he was employed by Thrift Brothers Saw Mill as a laborer and was of the Holiness Faith.
Surviving are wife Shannon Moore, son, Austin Moore of Seneca, daughters Brittany and Tinsley Moore of Seneca, parents Billy Joe and Betty Ruth Broome Moore of Walhalla, brothers Billy Ray Moore and wife Judy of Darlington, SC, James Douglas Moore and wife Karen of Westminster and John Eddie Moore and wife Melissa of Walhalla, sisters Wanda Gail Roach and husband Donald of Walhalla and Tammy Theresa Nichols and husband Russell of Westminster.
His maternal grandparents James and Essie Broome and paternal grandparents Eugene and Alma Moore precede him in death.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, April 7, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.

Walhalla – Beulah Maybelle Blakley Wood, 84, of 200 A South Pine Street, widow of Roberta Wood, died Tuesday April 3, 2007 at her home.
Mrs. Wood was born in LaFrance, SC a daughter of the late Tom and Lou Howard Blakley. She was a homemaker and a member of Pendleton Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Regina Brown of Westminster, her son Larry Wood of West Union, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her son Jackie Wood.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Friday in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster with the Reverend Doug Vernon officiating. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.

Born in Oconee County on May 24, 1961, she had been employed by Dunlop in Westminster and was a member of First Baptist Church in Westminster.
Surviving is her father Johnny C. Smith of the home and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her mother Mary Magdalene Gibson Smith, maternal grandparents Robert and Gussie Harden Gibson and paternal grandparents Robert and Icie Pearl Rholetter Smith precede her in death.

Longwood, FL - Ken Alan Gregory, 48 of 232 Tolgate Trail, passed December 25, 2006 away in Florida.
Born in Encino, CA he was employed as a computer engineer with Universal Studios in Orlando. He was a veteran of the US Navy as a nuclear technician. Mr. Gregory was a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts and attained his Eagle Scout Award at the age of 14.
He is survived by his wife Debra George Gregory, son Robert regory and daughter Michelle Gregory, parents Robert and Velma Smith Gregory and sister Kim Caroenas and two grandchildren.

Mtn. Rest - Lee Barry Keener, 39 of 175 Merill Dr., died February 25, 2007 at his home.
Born in Oconee County on May 22, 1967 to Verlin Keener and the late Flossie Lillie Moore Keener, he was of the Baptist faith. Lee graduated from West Oak High School in 1985.
In addition to his father, Verlin of Rabun Gap, GA, his wife Treesa Sanford Keener of Westminster, son Barry James Keener of Blue Ridge, GA, daughters Amanda Leigh “Clair” Keener and Kristina “Soffee” Keener both of Walterboro, SC, brother Sheldon Keener of Pelzer, sister Marilyn Cooper and husband Tim of Westminster, uncle Merrill Moore of Brevard, NC and aunt Bertie Brewster of Anderson, 12 nieces and 1 nephew survive him.
In addition to his mother, two sons Daniel Lee and Cody Michael Keener, brother Robert E. Moore, paternal grandparents James and Beatrice Keener, maternal grandfather Charles Peter Moore and maternal grandmother Josie Moore Wilson, and one uncle Virgil Moore precede him in death.

Westminster – Derek was born on November 20, 1989, he died February 26, 2007 at home surrounded by those who loved him so much. Derek was a special child who spent every day of his young life wrapped in the love of his family. He lived a life of such innocence, courage and purpose. Derek touched many lives; those that knew him fell in love with him and his big smile.
Derek is survived by his parents, Robert and Janet Pressley; and by his sister, Hannah of the home; Grandparents are Ed and Jo Miller of Westminster and Rev. Reginald and Claudia Pressley of Toccoa, GA and Great Grandmother Velma Miller also of Westminster.

Westminster – Bobby Franklin Carroll, 56 of 115 Jack St. died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Oconee County on February 23, 1951 he had been a textile worker.
Surviving are stepson Gary Lee Wyman II of Westminster, stepdaughters Darlene Morrissette of Crest Hill, IL and Carolyn Watkins of Westminster, brothers Ray Carroll of Westminster and Julius Carroll of Danville, VA, sisters Virginia Payne and Mary Jane Poole and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Carolyn “Jo Ann” Burton Carroll, his parents Jess Ramey and Sleetie Coal Sanford Carroll Cobb, brothers Melvin, Harold, Kenneth and Willie Sam “Bill” Carroll and sister Pansy Carroll precede him in death.

Walhalla – Marcia Lee Grozinger, 55 of 478 Coffee Rd passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007at Mountain View Rest Home in Clayton, GA.
Born on May 8, 1951 in Kansas City, KS, she was the daughter of Margie Cox of Walhalla and the late Authur Dake. She was employed with the Department of Social Services of Anderson, SC.
Surviving is her husband Nick Grozinger of Kansas City, MO, a daughter Nicole Grozinger of Walhalla, SC and a son, Michael Grozinger of Westminster, SC. She has one grandson, Austin Tyler Dickerson of Walhalla, SC.

Born in Brooklyn NY on November 1, 1942, she retired from Dresner Bank in NY. Miss. Cox was a member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca.

Seneca – Roger William Towe, 45 of 114 Slater Dr. died Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca.
Born in Oconee County on June 15, 1961 to John William and Mildred Irene “Bill” Nicholson Towe of Seneca, he attended Foothills Community Church and was a tractor-trailer operator, a loom fixer with J.P. Stevens Company, a hardwood floor specialist and mechanic.
In addition to his parents he is survived by wife Sandra “Sandy” Moore Towe, companion Leah Elizabeth Webb, daughters Samantha and Sydney Towe of the home, stepsons James and Luke Moore and Nathan Webb, stepdaughters Melanie Moore, Jennifer Gosnell, Hazel McCarter and Edith Marie Webb, brothers Leroy, Alan and Timmy Towe all of Seneca and sister Pamela McCall also of Seneca and six step grandchildren.
His son, Adam Joshua Towe precedes him in death.

Westminster – Douglas “Doug” Brinnon McGuffin, 67 of 203 Lakeside Dr. died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his residence.
Born in Oconee County on January 5, 1940, he had worked at Beacon Mfg., where he was a machine operator. He was a member of the VFW Walhalla Post and a veteran of the US Army Naval Air.
Survivors include wife Gloria Yvette Martinez McGuffin of the home, sons Donovan McGuffin and wife April and Duane McGuffin and wife Christy all of Westminster and Douglas Swanson of Georgia, daughter Linette Davis also of Georgia and six grandchildren, Ashley, Caitlyn, Avery and Addison McGuffin, Brett Davis and Savannah Leigh Swanson.
His parents Horace “Pete” and Edna King McGuffin precede him in death.
