Edna L. Braddock, 84, wife of James I. Braddock, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Rachel Parker. Mrs. Braddock was a member of Green Acres Assembly of God Church. She was a retired Civil Service licensed practical nurse at Shaw Air Force Base. She was first married to the late K.C. Welch. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include a son, Allen Welch of Sumter; a stepdaughter, Emma Player of Sumter; three grandchildren; H. Allen Welch of Sumter, Alaine L. Branch of Columbia and Rachel E. Chan of Sumter; a number of step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a number of step-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Parker of Sumter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lavern Parker. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Green Acres Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Donnie Collins, the Rev. COLUMBIA — Grace “Bertie” Hinnant Franklin, 82, widow of the Rev. W.E. Franklin Sr., died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late Marion C. Hinnant and Milbra Eleazer Hinnant. Mrs. Franklin worked with Tryon Hospital and later took her nurse’s training with Spartanburg General Hospital and then worked as a nurse with Palmetto Baptist Medical Center. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She also did volunteer work with Palmetto Baptist Medical Center. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. W.E. and Tina Franklin of Dalzell; a daughter and son-in-law, Milbra and Robert W. Reese of Columbia; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Hinnant Miller and Emily Hinnant Dennis; and a nephew, Leroy B. Dennis III. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. James W. Salter and the Rev. Walter Howell officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial park. MANNING — Elder Jessie Glenn, 31, husband of Linda Pusher Glenn, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Thomasville, N.C., from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Aug. 25, 1968, in New York, N.Y., he was a son of the late Eddie Glenn Sr. and Gracie L. Graves Glenn. Mr. Glenn attended Thomasville public schools. He was a member of Full Gospel Holiness Church in Summerton. He was employed by Federal Mogul Inc. in Summerton. Survivors besides his wife of the home in Manning include two sons, Johathan Glenn of Manning and Jacob Glenn of Lexington, N.C.; a daughter, Jessica Glenn of Manning; three brothers, Eddie Glenn Jr. of Thomasville, John Glenn of Sacramento, Calif., and Edward Glenn of Newark, N.J.; two sisters, Shirley Borden of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mary McKnight of Mullins; and a stepson, Jarmaquis Pusher of Summerton. MANNING — Edith C. Johnson, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Born July 12, 1913, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Smith Johnson and Minnie Strange Johnson. She was a resident of Methodist Manor in Florence. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church at Wilson and a graduate of Winthrop College. After retiring in 1974 from teaching school for many years in Rock Hill, she moved back to Manning. In 1992, she and a sister, Mabel Johnson, who preceded her in death, moved to Florence. Survivors include three nephews, Marion “Yogi” Johnson of Manning, Dick Garrell of Murrells Inlet and Duke Garrell of Myrtle Beach; and five nieces, Sara G. Stephens of Dillon, Berniece G. Dunnagan of Myrtle Beach, Dorothy G. Hanna of Elizabethtown, N.C., Dulcie G. Bunn of Whiteville, N.C., and Janet J. Gehrls of Iowa Falls, Iowa. MANNING — Alice Walker McDonald, widow of David McDonald, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Born Sept. 27, 1927, in Manning in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Hamilton Walker Sr. and Emma Jane Bennett Pringle. Mrs. McDonald was a member of Trinity AME Church in Manning. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She was employed as a domestic worker for many years. Survivors include a son, David McDonald Jr. of Manning; four daughters, Mary Pringle of Alcolu, Shirley Archie, Beatrice Mouzon and Angeleta McDonald, all of Manning; three brothers, Alphonza Pringle and Hamilton Walker Jr., both of Richmond, Va., and Mayande’ Gowan of Briarwood, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Jane Pringle of Manning and Margaret Pringle of Philadelphia, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy “Junior” McDonald; a brother, Charlie Pringle; and a sister, Mamie Pringle.
