Allen Russell
FLORENCE — Allen Jerome “Jerry” Russell, 60, of 1158 Brunwood Drive, died Monday, October 25, 2004 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Russell was born in Wilmington, NC, a son of the late Snowden Tyler and Marie Rogerson Russell. He was a member of the Church at Sandhurst and formerly served on the Missions Committee of the church. He retired after 22 years from the SC Department of Highways and Public Transportation having served as a Highway Patrolman and as a License Examiner. After retirement, he was employed with the US Postal Service until 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Rebecca Still Russell of the home; 2 sons, Jay Russell and his wife, Helen, of Columbia and Paul Russell of Florence; 2 grandsons, Sloan Whiteford Russell and Parker Allen Russell both of Columbia; 2 brothers, S.T. Russell of Myrtle Beach and Scott Russell of Winston Salem, NC.
Memorials may be made to Church at Sandhurst, Missions Committee or Building Fund, 1140 Third Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 28, 2004 at the Church at Sandhurst. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Church at Sandhurst Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

SALTERS — A graveside service for Lawrence Salters, 77, is 2 p.m. Friday in Salters Cemetery; wake 7 p.m. Thursday at Dimery & Rogers Funeral Home, Kingstree. Born in Williamsburg Co. to Jeffrey and Bertha Salters, he died Oct. 24, 2004. Surviving: children, Adam, Johnny, Charlie, Barbara Salters, Willie Mae Bolden, Bernice Frierson; brothers, Johnny, Elmore Salters; aunt, Janie Daniels; 21 grands; 16 great-grandchildren.
Charlotte Bachman
SANDY RUN — Mrs. Charlotte Robinson Bachman, of 1273 Old Swamp Rd., died Monday, October 25, 2004, at her residence. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 27th in West End Cemetery with Rev. James McGee and Rev. Bill Kyzer officiating. Pallbearers will be Darren Deans, Mike Bachman, Marty Bachman, Mike Robinson, Pat Robinson, Russ Robinson, Jay Robinson and Dale Hutto. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Bachman was born in St. Matthews a daughter of the late Mike and Lottie Smoak Robinson. She was a former employee of the South Carolina Public Service Commission and a member of the League of the South. Mrs. Bachman was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

AIKEN — Services for Helen Woodward Adkinson, 88, widow of Leo Adkinson, 2 p.m. Thursday in Scott Family Cemetery; visitation 6-8 tonight at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. Born in Aiken Co. to Fred and Ethel Scott Woodward, she died Oct. 26, 2004. She was a member of Shaws Fork Baptist Church. Surviving: niece and caretaker, Janet and Curtis English and their children, Justin, Nick and Wesley.
Robert Bailey Jr.
LEXINGTON — Robert Logan Bailey, Jr. (Bobby) of 117 Jake’s Landing Rd., Lexington, SC died on Monday, October 25, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was the son of Robert L. and Belva Bronson Bailey of Aiken, formerly of Columbia.
Bobby attended Irmo High School and was graduated from South Aiken High School where he was named Who’s Who Among American High School Students. He also attended Aiken Technical College and Midlands Technical College. He was a self-employed electrician.
Services will be held at Mole Funeral Home Chapel in Barnwell, SC on Thursday, October 28, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:30 until 2:45 prior to the service. The service will be officiated by Dr. Fred Andrea, Dr. Posey Belcher, and Dr. Fred Miller. Graveside services will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery (Airport). In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be directed to Lexington and Richland Alcohol and Drug Area Council (LARADAC) at 1325 Harden St., Columbia, SC.
Bobby’s infectious smile, his loving spirit toward others, his struggles to do what was right, his generosity of time and talents for others will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family and friends. He is survived in addition to his parents, by son, Robert Logan Bailey, III and the mother of his child, Deanna Vaughn Bailey of Irmo, a sister, Barbra Bailey Davis and her husband Peter of Columbia, Two nephews, Parker and Lawson Davis of Columbia and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents and dear friend, Gina Smith of Lexington.

LEXINGTON — Gina Smith, 43, of Lexington, died Monday, October 25, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2004, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Mitch Evans officiating. Pallbearers will be Gregg Long, Dana Stone, Eddie Payne, Steve Payne and Bernard Trotter.
Mrs. Smith was born in Columbia to G.W. Matthews and the late Sylvia Stone Matthews. She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church and a registered nurse for Palmetto Baptist Hospital.
Surviving are her father, G.W. Matthews and step-mother, Becky Taylor Matthews of Batesburg-Leesville; son, Justin Smith of Lexington; daughters, Haley Smith of Lexington; Erin Smith of Leesville; step-brothers, Steve Payne of Florida, Eddie Payne of North Carolina; grandmothers, Myrlee Stone, Lois Matthews, both of Batesburg; preceded in death by her mother and daughter, Emily Brooke Ruth Smith.

Mrs. Burnes widow of Willie “Bill” Lee Burnes of Lexington Extended Care in Lexington, formerly of Orangeburg, SC, left us on Monday, October 25, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Jessie and Cornelius Bozard of Cameron, SC. She was a member for many years of Wesley Grove United Methodist Church.
She was a loving and caring person to those who knew her at Lex. Ext. Care and was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. During her stay at Lex. Ext. Care, she cherished visits from family and friends. A very heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and aids at Lex. Ext. Care and Tri-County Hospice.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Debbie Fickling of Orangeburg; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Earle Kyzer of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Wendy Burnes of Chapin; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Ken Wyont of Gastonia, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Sara Bozard of Cameron; brother, Billy Ray Bozard of Cordova. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Johnnie Doyle Bozard.

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Annie Lois Rish Crosby, 85, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2004, at Fellowship Baptist Church with burial to follow in Woodridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Fellowship Baptist Church. Mrs. Crosby, widow of Clyde Crosby, died Monday, October 25, 2004. Born in Lexington, SC, she was the daughter of the late George Wesley and Viola Spires Rish. She was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a pre-school Sunday School teacher, and President of the Women’s Missionary Union. She loved flower arranging, ceramics, quilting, cooking, and people.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Crosby of West Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Clydene “Dena” and Mike Creel of Lexington; grandchildren, Sarah Creel of Rochester, NY, and Allen Creel of Lexington; brother, Louis Rish of West Columbia; sisters, Amy Moore of West Columbia, Doris Davis and Lettie Folk of Columbia; sister-in-law, Mary Rogers of West Columbia and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crosby was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Crosby, brothers, Ervin, John and Herman Rish; sisters, Melba Sturkie and Rosa Lee Luther.

PAWLEYS ISLAND — Services for Carl Chatman, 55, carpenter, widower of Theopia Chatman, were held at Wilds’ Daughter Home for Funerals. Born in Pawleys Island to George Chatman and Dorothy Pointe Grate, he died Oct. 22, 2004. Surviving are siblings, Joyce Neville, Mary Alston, Herbert, Albert, Benjamin Grate; stepfather, Clifton Grate; stepson, Raymond Wilson.

ORANGEBURG — Services with burial for Ruth Waymer Dantzler, 77, teacher, beautician, widow of Raymond Dantzler Sr., will be held at noon at Bull Swamp Baptist Church. Tinh Minh Diep
GASTON — Tinh Minh Diep, 59, of Gaston, died Sunday, October 24, 2004. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, and formerly of Hong Kong, he was the son of the late Nghiem Co Diep and Vong Thi Kieu. He had been an area resident since 1981. The family will receive friends from 7-9pm Wednesday, October 27 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Huong Thu and Randall Hunter, Ha and Bryan Ziegler, all of Lexington, Hong and D. Mitchell Campbell, Huyen Diep, and Hanh Diep, all of West Columbia; sons, Hung Minh Diep of Virginia Beach, VA, Hung Minh Diep of West Columbia; sisters, Nhung “Susan” Weimer of Lexington, Toan Diep, Thanh Diep, and Hieu Diep, all of Vietnam; brother Ann “John” Diep of Lexington, Cuong Diep of Columbia; grandchildren, Sounita Campbell, Cassandra Campbell, Weston Campbell, and Victoria Hunter. Mr. Diep was predeceased by his grandson, Ethan Minh Diep.
