GARDEN CITY - Mrs. Ethel Bass Calvert, 68, of 525 Canal Drive died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at home.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery West, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating.
A native of York County, Mrs. Calvert was a daughter of the late James Henry Bass and Julia Conrad Bass. She retired from The Ronson Corp. in Charlotte.
Surviving are two sisters, Gladys McAteer of Fort Mill and Betsy Williams of Chester; and her brother, Henry Bass of Camden.

Margaret Joseph
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margaret Anne Barber Joseph, 60, of 722 Catherine St. died Monday, July 31, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Revs. Ralph Washington and Billy Wilson officiating and the Rev. John Brown assisting. Eulogy will be given by the Rev. James T. Barber. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Joseph was a daughter of Ernest Barber and Frances Barber of Rock Hill. She graduated from Emmett Scott High School. She was a member of Rock Grove AME Zion Church, where she served on the usher board, hymn choir and as a member of the Heavenly Gospel Singers.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, J.C. Joseph of Philadelphia; four sons, Raymond Barber, Jerome Joseph, Jerry Joseph and Pernell Joseph, all of Rock Hill; three daughters, Kathy Gilliam, Darlene Heath and Angela Joseph, all of Rock Hill; four brothers, Charles Barber III, Ernest Barber, Willie Ed Barber and James Barber, all of Rock Hill; her sister, Maggie L. Robinson of Rock Hill; and her special friend, James Penberton of Rock Hill; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home.
The body will be taken to church at 2 p.m. today.
Ollie McCollum
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ollie Price Humphries McCollum, 66, of 750 Sumter Ave. died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Elgin Baptist Church in Lancaster, with the Rev. Charles McAteer officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. McCollum was a daughter of the late Joseph Nicholas Humphries and Frostie Price Humphries. She was the widow of Donald I. McCollum Sr. A retired registered nurse, Mrs. McCollum graduated from York General Hospital School of Nursing and served at York General Hospital. She retired from Winthrop University Infirmery. She was a charter member of Elgin Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Donald I. McCollum Jr. of the home and Randy Michael McCollum of Charlotte; her daughter, Beverly Nolan of Rock Hill; two brothers, Joseph Nicholas Humphries Jr. and Jesse A. Humphries, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Betty H. Kirk of Lancaster and Rebecca A. Trakas of Ridgeway; and her grandson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday before the service in the church fellowship hall.

BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Anna Brianna "Denise" McGraw, 32, of 102 Sidney Walker Drive died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Wilkes Skinner officiating.
A native of Lee County, Miss., Mrs. McGraw was a daughter of James Burcham of Corinth, Miss., and Martha Powers of Smyrna. She was a legal secretary for attorney Albert Smith. She was a Girl Scout leader and was a volunteer at Boiling Springs Elementary School.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her son, Matthew Kyle McGraw of the home; two daughters, Ashley Nicole McGraw and Hanna Michelle McGraw, both of the home; her brother, Brian Burcham of Rienzi, Miss.; her sister, Angie Rickman of Corinth; her stepmother, Nelda Burcham of Corinth; her stepfather, William Powers of Smyrna; her paternal grandmother, Frances Burcham of Corinth; and her maternal step-grandmother, Doris Woodruff of Corinth.

Jacob Penrow
FORT MILL - Jacob Preston Penrow, 3-year-old son of Virginia Heather Penrow of York and Christopher Allen Penrow of 2723 Farmlake Lane, Fort Mill died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A graveside service will be noon Friday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Revs. Jeff Bedwell and Benny Wade officiating.
Jacob was a native of Rock Hill and attended nursery school at First Baptist Church in Fort Mill.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandparents, Ron Whitmire and Dot Whitmire, both of Fort Mill; his paternal grandmother, Beth Jordan of Fort Mill; his paternal grandfather, Johnny Penrow of Augusta, Ga.; his maternal great-grandfather, Wayne W. Whitmire of Travelers Rest; and his paternal great-grandmother, Marion Askew.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at First Baptist Church in the fellowship hall at the back entrance.

John Scott
TEGA CAY - Mr. John O. Scott, 85, of 5011 Tara Tea Drive died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, with Father John Giuliani, Father Joe Pearce and Deacon Jon Dwyer officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York. Reception will be noon at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church after the burial.
A native of Newark, N.J., Mr. Scott was a son of the late Robert Scott and Genevieve Scott. He was the widower of Mildred O'Brien Scott. He served as an Army staff sergeant during World War II. He was a retired financial officer at Bilkay's Express in New Jersey.
Surviving are his brother, Brother Gilbert Scott of New York.

GAFFNEY - Mr. Randy Lamar Thompson, 38, of 319 Beaver Ridge Road died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, with the Revs. Bobby Cable and Charlie Wilborn and Dr. Danny Emory officiating. Burial will be at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
A native of Gaffney, Mr. Thompson was a son of Ruth Eubanks Thompson and the late Wilburn Lamar Thompson. He was a teacher and coach at Granard Middle School. He owned Randy's Repair Service. He was a farmer and graduated from Gardner-Webb University. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are three sisters, Denise Whitener of Patterson Springs, N.C., Brenda Moss of Gaffney and Bobbi Jean Peterson of Gaffney.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Watford was a daughter of Harvey W. Silvers and Virginia Christmas Silvers, both of Fort Mill. She attended Fort Mill High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Daughters of the Confederacy and the National Rifle Association. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Rock Hill.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Rick Watford; her son, Richard W. Watford of Fort Mill; her brother, Clyde Ray Tankersley of Indianapolis; her sister, Nelleen Moser of Fort Mill; and her grandchild.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Mrs. Jessie Smith Adams, 93, formerly of Clover, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Genesis Elder Care Nursing Home in Sylvia Park, Md.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover, with the Rev. William K. Neely officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
A native of Cuero, Texas, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late James Jackson Smith and Matilda Shirley Smith. She was the widow of James Lewis Adams. She was a member of Clover Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca Grigg of Annapolis, Md.; and two grandchildren.

Bertha Buckson
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Mrs. Bertha Starks "Sister" Buckson, 98, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at D.C. General Hospital.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Satur-day at Red Hill Baptist Church in Leeds, with the Rev. Roosevelt Adams officiating and the Rev. Dr. W.G. Boulware and the Rev. William Chisholm and Pastor Keith Taylor assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mrs. Buckson was a daughter of the late Joe Starks and Linda Bowser Starks. The widow of Charlie Buckson Sr., she was the oldest member of Red Hill Baptist Church. She was a retired drycleaning presser and a domestic worker.
Surviving are three sons, Dorsie Buckson, James Buckson and Robert William Buckson, all of Washington; two daughters, Ella Ruth Carter of Chester and Laura Buckson of Amityville, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ella R. and Walker Carter of 218 Jewel St., Chester.
The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Bessie Byrum
YORK - Mrs. Bessie May Jennings Byrum, 92, of 134 Hall St. died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at York Church of God, with the Rev. Donald Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Hickory Grove.
A native of Gaffney, Mrs. Byrum was a daughter of the late Rowan Jennings and Ola Dricell. She was the widow of John G. Byrum. She was a seamstress and was retired from Oxford Mill in Hickory Grove.
Surviving are her son, Bobby Byrum of the home; her half-brother, David Jennings of Gaffney; and two half-sisters, Texanna Jennings and Frances Jennings, both of New Orleans.

A wake with Eastern Star rites will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Metropolitan AME Zion Church. The funeral will be 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Cordell Jenkins officiating.
A native of Chester, Mrs. Caldwell was a daughter of the late Samuel Simpson and Janie Simpson. She was the widow of John White Blake and Willie Caldwell.
She attended the public schools of Chester County and Clinton Junior College. She attended Old AME Zion Church in Halseville. She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church where she was Deaconess, life member of the Missionary Society, usher board, Stewardess Board No. 2 and Christian Education Board. She was a member of Eastern Star Josepheous Chapter No. 160, Chris-tian Burial Aid Brooklyn Lodge No. 20 and the Robert E. White Court No. 9 Heroines of Jericho. She retired from American Linen Company and was a cafeteria worker for the Chester County school district.
Surviving are three daughters, Janie Mae Briscoe of Black Mountain, N.C., Bernice Blake Little of Washington, D.C., and Geneva Blake Peay of Hosch-ton, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Janie Mae Davis of Rock Hill and Jerry Mills of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

York - Mr. Alfred C. "Big Al" Clark, 63, of 1080 Cedar Spring Road died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Phil Lemmons officiating and the Rev. Richard Little assisting.
A native of Elk Hurst, W.Va., Mr. Clark was a son of the late Clarence Clark and Priscilla Butcher. He was a self-employed logger and attended Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church in Rock Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Vicla Reid Clark; two sons, John Clark and Jerry Clark, both of York; seven daughters, Betty C. Gregory and Barbara Clark, both of Charleston, W.Va., Bonnie Clark of Fort Lawn, Julie White of York, Pricilla Robinson of Clover, Tina Reid of York and Sonja Dover of Fort Mill; two brothers, Billy Clark of Cleveland and Raymond Clark of Lizemore, W. Va.; two sisters, Iona C. Moore of Wallback, W.Va., and Adelaide C. Meade of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.
