CHARLOTTE - Miss Taneesha D. "Candy" Jackson, 19, of 1019 Franklin Ave., formerly of Chester, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald McClurkin officiating and the Revs. J. Boulware, Eugene Canty, Paul Long, Moses Lightner and Alonzo Gregory assisting. The burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Miss Jackson was the daughter of Elaine Jackson Osei of Charlotte and was the stepdaughter of Atta Osei of Shelby, N.C. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Ridgeway, where she a was a former usher. She was employed by Lee's Living Center in Charlotte, and she attended public schools in Chester and Mecklenburg counties.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her aunt and uncle who raised her, the Rev. Ronald and Florence McClurkin of Chester; and three brothers, Jacques Jackson and Keomki Jackson, both of Charlotte, and Desmond McClurkin of Chester.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of the Rev. Ronald and Florence McClurkin, 127 Carr St., Chester.
Ruby McGinnis
CHESTER - Mrs. Ruby Childers McGinnis, 86, of 3234 Mount Prospect Church Road, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jody Foster officiating.
A native of York County, Mrs. McGinnis was a daughter of the late Henry W. Childers and Mary Erby Childers. She was the widow of Clyde McGinnis. She was a retired textiles employee who attended York County schools. Mrs. McGinnis was a member of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Wilma Player, Ella Mae Childers and Mildred Gaston, all of Chester.

Frances Phillips
CRAMERTON, N.C. - Mrs. Frances Deal Phillips, 87, of 457 18th St. died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Rehabilitation and Health Center in Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Clover, with the Rev. Ralph Dale officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late Robert J. Deal and Bessie Gordon Deal. She was the widow of Thad Phillips.
She was a charter member of the Clover Assembly of God.
Surviving are three daughters, Faye LeRoy of Clover, Cannis Gordon of Smyrna and Grace Boyles of Cramerton; her son, Thad Phillips Jr. of Mount Holly, N.C.; her sister, Lorene England of Gastonia; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

William Whitesides Jr.
SMYRNA - Mr. William Lester "Less" Whitesides Jr., 76, of 3020 Legion Road died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smyrna ARP Church, with the Rev. Kyle Sims officiating and the Rev. Andrew Putnam assisting. Burial will be at Smyrna ARP Church cemetery.
A native of Smyrna, Mr. Whitesides was a son of the late William Lester Whitesides Sr. and Fanny Roddey Whitesides. He was the retired owner of the Whitesides Co. He was a retired major in World War II, where he served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps.
A graduate of Clemson College, he served as a member of the Piedmont Medical Center board of trustees, was chairman of the Department of Social Services board and served on the advisory board of the First Citizens Bank. He was a member of the VFW - Hickory Grove Post No. 6318, a member of the Greater York Chamber board of directors and a member, deacon and elder of Smyrna ARP Church.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Riddle Whitesides; his son, William Lester "Bill" Whitesides III of Smyrna; four daughters, Anne Weeks of York, Jeanne Karagias of Myrtle Beach, Susan Benfield of Smyrna and Leslie Roundtree of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Bette Faulkner of Smyrna and Frances Fitz of Hickory, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at the home.

LANCASTER - Mrs. Jermaine Wright Cromer, 87, formerly of 1020 Memorial Park Road, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Lancaster Convalescant Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Chapel in Chester. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls.
A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Cromer was the widow of Douglas Cromer. She attended Chesterfield County schools and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Annell C. Laney of Lancaster and Ann Hall of Chester; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Mrs. Mae Frazier Eaves Fant, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, May 25, 2000.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel AME Zion Church in Montclair.
Surviving are two sisters, Selma E. Owens of Jamaica, N.Y., and Ruth E. Young of Rock Hill.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruby Wallace Brown Fleming, 81, of 621 University Drive died Monday, May 29, 2000, at home.
A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in York, with the Rev. James Correll Jr. officiating.
A native of York, Mrs. Fleming was a daughter of the late J.R.A. Wallace and Nettie Lou Gardner Wallace. She retired as a tax collector for York County after 34 years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Sewell G. Brown.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald G. Brown of York and Richard S. Brown of Rock Hill; her daughter, Patty Brown Dover of York; her sister, Thelma Wallace; and five grandchildren.

BRONX, N.Y. - Mr. Harold McDonald of 790 Concourse Village Blvd. died Thursday, May 25, 2000.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. McDonald was a son of the late James McDonald and Amanda McDonald.

ROCK HILL - Ms. Bernice Crenshaw Herring, 57, of 1123 Steele St. died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A native of Pineville, N.C., Ms. Herring was a daughter of the late Frank Crenshaw and Lula Crenshaw. She was a homemaker and attended the Salvation Army Chapel.
Surviving are two brothers, Sanford Crenshaw and Lindsay Crenshaw, both of the home; and her sister, Jacqueline McAteer of Rock Hill.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Robert "Pat" Hicks, 76, of 1825 Alton Road died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be private.
A native of Rutherfordon, N.C., Mr. Hicks was a son of the late Charles D. Hicks and Joyce Hancock Hicks.
He was owner and operator of Pat's Sign Service and served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. Mr. Hicks was a Mason and a Shriner.
Surviving are his sons, Darrell Hicks and Tim Hicks, both of Rock Hill; his brother, C.B. Hicks of Lenoir, N.C.; his sisters, Bernice Teague of Fort Mill and Ella Setzer of Gastonia, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Mrs. Helen Sexton Estes Marsh, 68, of 227 Ridge St. died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

A native of York County, Mrs. Marsh was a daughter of the late Jesse James Sexton and Queen Anne Victoria Outen Sexton. She was the widow of William F. Marsh.
Surviving are two sons, Harry Estes Jr. of Grover, N.C., and Luther Thomas Estes of Kings Mountain; five daughters, Mary Adams of Dallas, and Linda Johns, Mildred Bronk, Jean Alexander and Cathey Rake, all of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Roy Sexton and Harry Sexton, both of Rock Hill, Jessie Sexton Jr. of Chester and Joe Sexton of Kings Mountain; her sister, Racheal Mullenix of New Carlisle, Ohio; 27 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

James Melton Sr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. James Dowell Melton Sr., 87, of 1534 India Hook Road died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at home.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Revs. Bo Coleman and Dr. Bob Shrum officiating.
A native of Monroe, N.C., Mr. Melton was a son of the late Bonnie E. Melton and Ella Allen Melton. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and was retired after 55 years in textiles. Mr. Melton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, obtaining the rank of gunner's mate third class.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Jackson Melton; his son, James D. Melton Jr. of Richburg; and his sister, Mildred Nunnery of Rock Hill.
