Douglas Horton
KERSHAW - Mr. Douglas Kemper Horton, 71, of 7166 Highway 341 died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Kershaw County Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sand Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Patrick Mininhane officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of Kershaw, Mr. Horton was a son of the late Curtis Horton and Lula Truesdale Horton. He was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member of the median adult Sunday school class, former Sunday school teacher and choir director. A retired water tester for the town of Kershaw, Mr. Horton was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College for two years, Coker College for a year and studied for a year at Columbia Bible College.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Baker Horton; his son, Jeffrey O. Horton of Kershaw; his stepson, William "Bill" Wilson of Knoxville, Tenn.; his sister, Norma Morris of Kershaw; two grandsons; and two step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Oliver Kolb
SUMTER - Mr. Oliver Joseph "Joe Joe" Kolb, 57, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
A native of Sumter, Mr. Kolb was a son of Oliver John Kolb of Sumter and the late Earnestine Revill Kolb. He was previously employed with Sumter Machinery and Boulevard Upholstery Shop.
Surviving in addition to his father are his brother, Allen Norwood Kolb of Great Falls; and his sister, Carolyn Kolb Ellis of Great Falls.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his aunt, Lillie Belk Davis, 2340 Whites Mill Road.

Athalee Plemmons
YORK - Mrs. Athalee Virginia Belue Plemmons, 92, of 111 S. Congress St. died Friday, May 5, 2000, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Phillipi Baptist Church cemetery in Union, with the Rev. James Correll officiating.
A native of Lockhart, Mrs. Plemmons was a daughter of the late Barner B. Belue and Annie Gallman Belue. She was the widow of Mack Plemmons. A homemaker, she was a member of Lockhart Eastern Star and active in the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Charles Plemmons of York; two granddaughters and her great-grandson.

Montavin White
BELMONT, N.C. - Montavin Jerrill White, 7, of 323 Todd St. Extension, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Goshen Free Will Baptist Church in Mount Holly, N.C., with Pastor Blankenship officiating and the Rev. Terrence Jones assisting. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont, N.C.
A native of Gastonia, Montavin was a first-grade student at Belmont Central Elementary School and attended Goshen Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are his mother, Sarah Ann White of the home, formerly of York County, his father, Jimmy Dean Jones of Gastonia, formerly of York County; his brother, Antonio Maurice White of the home; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Jone of Belmont; his maternal grandfather, Robert Kendrick of Belmont; his maternal step-grandfather, John June of the home; his paternal grandmother, Martha Ann June of Gastonia; his paternal grandfather, James June of Gastonia; his maternal great-grandparents, Floyd and Earline White of Belmont; and his paternal great-grandfather, Moses June of Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Goshen Free Will Baptist Church.

Joyce McCall Adams
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Joyce McCall Adams, 85, of 1330 India Hook Road died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Westminster Healthcare Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Revs. Shelton P. Sanford and William A. Fox Jr. officiating.
A native of Florence, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late John D. McCall and Naomi Gandy McCall. She was a homemaker and was member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of John Jefferson Adams Jr.
Surviving are her son, Jay Adams of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Ann Kohler and Joye A. Spencer, both of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4 to 5 p.m. today at Westminster Towers Community Room, and at other times at the home of her daughter, Joye Spencer, 2025 Eakle Drive, Rock Hill.

John Faile
FORT MILL - Mr. John Flanagon "Johnnie" Faile, 72, of 699 Gold Hill Road died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dan Griffin and James Herron officiating. Burial will be at Flint Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Born in York, Mr. Faile was a son of the late Joseph S. Faile Sr. and Rebecca Parker Faile. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, A Battery 37th Artillery at Fort Lewis, Wash. Mr. Faile retired from J. P. Stevens after almost 40 years.
He was the widower of Juanita Justus Faile and Betty Carlisle Rollings Faile.
Surviving are two brothers, Atmer E. Faile of Ocala, Fla., and Edger Gwynne Faile of Fort Mill; and four sisters, Julia F. Sherer of Rock Hill, and Dorcas F. Chapman, Betty F. Lambert and Rebecca Jean Cardillo, all of Fort Mill.

CHESTER - Ms. Vera Ann Harris, 38, of Whitten Center in Clinton, formerly of Richburg, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Whitten Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Richburg, with the Rev. Benjamin Murdock officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her stepfather, William "Billy" Boulware of Chester.

Frank Lowry
YORK - Mr. Frank Leethaniel "Dick" Lowry, 67, of 306 Hunter Street died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church in York, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Born in York, Mr. Lowry was the son of the late Daniel Lowry and Jessie Neely Lowry. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Claflin College in Orangeburg. Mr. Lowry was a lifetime member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was affiliated with the Black Caucus, NAACP, Zoning Commission, Election Board and numerous other political and school affairs. He served in the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Foster Lowry; his son, Rogerick "Rodd" Lowry of York; his daughter, Sandra Thompson of Kings Mountain; his brother, Joseph "Joe" Lowry of York; two sisters, Lucy Lowry of York and Isabelle Broadhead of Kingston, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from noon to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home.
Viola Outen
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Viola Davis Outen, 91, of 127 Murrah Drive died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be private.
A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Outen was a daughter of the late William Davis and Mary Davis. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her son, James Hunt of Dallas, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Andrew Pafford
ROCK HILL - Mr. Andrew Bourne Pafford Jr., 87, of 1067 Woodland Drive died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. John Jenkins officiating.
Born in Sugargrove, Va., Mr. Pafford was a son of the late Andrew B. Pafford Sr. and Gennie Shuler Pafford. He was the widower of Elsie Robert Pafford.
He retired from Celanese as a superintendent of preparation. Mr. Pafford was a member of the American Legion Post No. 34, Elks Lodge and Masonic Lodge No. 385. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on the USS Wisconsin, receiving the American and Victory medals. Mr. Pafford attended Woodland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his sister-in-law, Mattie Woodyard; and several nieces and nephews.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Eunice Jeanette Dover Thomas, 93, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

A native of Cleveland County, N.C., Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late William Franklin Dover and Ida Thornburg Dover. She was a retired nurses' aide from the Children's Orthopedic Hospital in Gastonia, N.C. A charter member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, she was active in the Senior Citizens' Sunday school class and the Missionary Society.
Surviving are her sister, Lamby Wentz of Charlotte; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

A native of White Plains Community of Jefferson, Mrs. Usher was a daughter of the late John Stacks and Lula Taylor Stacks. She was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she had been a nursery teacher. She was a retired inspector for Springs Industries.
She was the widow of Jack Usher Sr.
Surviving are her son, Jack Usher Jr. of Lancaster; and three sisters, Janie Bruce of Heath Springs, and Cleo Robinson and Annie Mae Rollings, both of Lancaster.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Ms. Virginia Walker of Manhattan, formerly of Chester, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
The funeral will be Tuesday at The Greater Hood Memorial AME Zion Church in Manhattan, with the pastor officiating.
A native of Chester, Ms. Walker was a daughter of the late Janie Paul and Johnny Paul. She attended public school in Chester County and Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill. She was a member of Brown's Chapel AME Zion Church in Chester and The Greater Hood Memorial AME Zion Church.
Surviving are her son, Juesage A. Walker of New York; two sisters, Rosetta Cloud and Ethel Paul, both of Manhattan; three grandchildren whom she raised, Tonya R. William of Chester, Karon B. Walker of Delaware, and Malik Walker of Long Island, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren; and seven cousins, Ella Mae Reno, George "Bunny" Guy, Mildred Thompson, Shirley Boyd, Bobby Boyd, Ernestine Douglas and Ernest Walker, all of Chester.
