Minnie Shugart
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Minnie B. Jackson Shugart, 86, of 493 Cottonwood Drive, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ben A. Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery.
A native of York County, Mrs. Shugart was the daughter of the late Thomas N. Broome and Fannie Montgomery Broome. She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of the late Walter Lee Jackson and A.N. Shugart Sr.
Surviving are two sons, Robert W. Jackson of Tomah, Wis., and David Thomas Jackson of Fort Lawn; four daughters, Josephine Turner, Henrietta Giles, Sandra Niday, all of Rock Hill, and Brenda McCorkle of Gaffney; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

J.D. Griffin
ROCK HILL - Mr. J.D. Griffin, 51, of 325 E. White St. died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bass Funeral Home.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Griffin was a son of Azzilee Gamble Griffin and the late James Griffin. He was a retired painter.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Mat Gibson of Rock Hill; his daughter, Mindy Griffin of Salem, N.C.; three brothers, Lonnie Griffin and Terry Griffin of Rock Hill, and Robert Griffin of Edgefield; five sisters, Louise Hollinger, Betty Taylor, Nancy Mobley and Sheila Millstead, all of Rock Hill, and Mary Knight of Fort Mill; his companion, Barbara Brown of Rock Hill; and his grandson.

CLOVER - Mrs. Emma Lee Avery Hoffman Williams, 79, of 2697 Smith Road died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Clover Christian Fellowship Church, with the Rev. Tony Caruson officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Chapel Church cemetery in Gastonia, N.C.
A native of Gaston County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Luther Avery and Nancy Payne. She was the widow of Theodore Roosevelt Hoffman. She was a member of Clover Christian Fellowship.
Surviving are her husband, James Fred Williams; her son, Lee Hoffman of Clover; two daughters, Nancy Fleming Jr. of Dallas, N.C., and Martha Hoffman of Gastonia; three brothers, Carl Avery and Lamar Avery, both of Dallas, and Clyde Avery of Lenoir, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

ROCK HILL- Mr. Alonzo Blake, 87, of 1580 Neelys Creek Road, formerly of York, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A native of Chester, Mr. Blake was the son of late Rev. Samuel and Janie P. Blake. He was the widower of Mamie Byers Blake. He attended the public schools of Chester and York counties. Retired from Cannon Mills Plant No. 3, he was a member of Gold Hill Baptist Church, serving as an honorary trustee and as a member of the Hymn Choir.
Surviving are three daughters, Bessie McColla of Southfield, MI, Jean Barnette of Rock Hill and Hattie Pritchard of Oxen Hill, MD; his son, James Blake of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters, Naomi Lowry and Elizabeth Rainey, both of York, Margaret McCleave of Fort Mill and Carleen Woods of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers, Simon Blake of York, James Blake of Charleston and Allen Blake of Detroit, Mich; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grand children and a special friend, Luiclle Lowry.

William Brown
ROCK HILL - Mr. William Pete Brown, 80, of 2230 Indian Trail died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Early Morgan Brown and Edith Bertha Harris Brown. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward. He was a former employee of J.P. Stevens Co. and an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are four sons, Bobby Norman Brown, Owen Keith Brown, William Larry Brown and Patrick Neal Brown, all of Rock Hill; six daughters, Nancy Mae Brown of Seneca, Reba Maxine Sigmon of Sharon, Vanessa Lee Troublefield, Velma Brown Whitesides, Anna Maria Branham and Myra Brown Brindle, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Evelyn George of Rock Hill and Lizzie Burns of Mexico; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

CLOVER - Mr. Fred Cathcart, 76, of 1433 Woodridge Drive died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at home.

A native of Spartanburg County, Mr. Cathcart was the son of the late Jim Cathcart and Annie Woodard Cathcart. A construction foreman, he was retired from Duke Power Co., and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Bailey Cathcart of Clover; three sons, Kenneth Nix and Michael W. Bertram, both of Clover, and Chris Bertram of Beaufort; his daughter, Deborah Stewart of Clover; two brothers, Sam Cathcart of Enoree and Paul Cathcart of Gray Court; his sister, Ruby Strickland of Enoree; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. Charles Edward Graham, 67, of 1906 Overlook Road died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at New Independent Methodist Church in Great Falls, with the Rev. Michael Ruff officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Graham was a son of the late Leroy Graham and Ethel Cord Graham. He was a member of New Independent Methodist Church, where he was a choir member. He was a former member of Love & Charity Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Chester County. He was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy L. Graham; two sons, John Lee Boulware of Blackstock and Randy Boulware of the home; two brothers, the Rev. Roy Graham of Washington, D.C. and the Rev. Roosevelt Graham of Crestville, Md.; three sisters, Etta Mae Kelly of Charlotte, Hazel Lewis of Salisbury, N.C., and Doris Lewis of Richburg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lendon Munday
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Lendon Todd Munday, 38, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Carolina Heart Institute.
The funeral will be noon today at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville, N.C., with the Revs. Paul Lowder and Robert T. Young officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Born in Mooresville, N.C., Mr. Munday was a son of the late Shirley Ervin Munday and Jimmy Lee Munday. He was a 1979 graduate of Statesville Senior High School. In 1985, he earned his bachelor of music performance degree from Winthrop University. He studied voice at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and Boston University Opera Institute.
Mr. Munday sang with the Western Opera Theater in San Francisco and worked with the Merola Program and the San Francisco Opera from 1986 to 1988.
He was a soloist in the southeast with the York County Choral Society, Charlotte Symphony, Charlotte Oratorio Singers, South Carolina Philharmonic, Atlanta Choral Guild and the Charleston Symphony.
Mr. Munday has performed internationally and with companies including the Dallas Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Central City Opera, Virginia Opera, Piedmont Opera Theater, Charleston Opera, Opera Carolina, Newberry Opera and the New York City National Company.
He was vice president and manager of the Fritz and Lavinia Jensen Foundation for Young Professional Singers.
Surviving is his wife, Danielle Goldin-Munday.
The family will receive friends after the service.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Turner was a son of the late William "Greenberry" Turner and Nellie McCoy Turner. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a 1971 graduate of Chester High School and a former employee of Springs Industries. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Sullivan Turner of Hodgeville, Ky.; his daughter, Christina Kay Turner of Hodgeville; his brother, Robert Turner of Chester; and two sisters, Nellie Turner of Chester and Mable Williams of Philadelphia.

A native of York County, Mrs. Setzer was the daughter of the late Green and Sarah Heffner Phillips. She attended Clover public schools and retired from Klear Knit after 27 years.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, serving on the Deaconness Board, the Missionary Board, as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Jerusalem Church Aid Society.
Surviving are her husband, John James Setzer of Clover; her son, James W. Setzer Sr.; her daughter, Mary Ola Dixon; two brothers, A.C. Phillips of Clover and James H. Phillips of Cramerton, N.C.; three sisters, Ella Phillips of Clover, Gracie Hand of Belmont, N.C., and Sarah L. Dowtin of Staten Island, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alma Inez Caldwell, 79, of 528 Walnut St. died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A native of York County, Mrs. Caldwell was the daughter of the late Ernest H. Rice and Gertrude D. Rice. A homemaker, she was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church, she was a lifetime member of the WSCS and was a Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are her husband, William Edward "Ed" Caldwell of the home; three sons, Edward Wayne Caldwell of Greenville, N.C., William "Bill" Darrell Caldwell of York and Ivan Glen Caldwell of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lois Rice Russell of Rock Hill and Lucille Rice Jackson of Greer; eight grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
