Jewel Clem

FORT MILL - Mrs. Jewel Garrett Clem, 81, of 144 Still Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Brown officiating.

A native of Anderson, Mrs. Clem was a daughter of the late Bluford Willis Garrett and Lorraine Hall Garrett. She was the widow of Hebert D. Clem and a member of Westerly Hills Baptist Church. She was was retired from Springs Industries after 35 years employment.

Surviving are nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Westerly Hills Baptist Church building fund, 1730 Doves Road, Fort Mill, SC 28715.

Nathaniel Johnson

BALTIMORE - The Rev. Nathaniel Johnson, 72, of Baltimore, formerly of York County, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999.

The funeral was Nov. 28 at Timothy Baptist Church in Baltimore. Burial was Nov. 29 at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Garrison Forest in Owings Mills, Md.

A native of Fairfield County, the Rev. Johnson was a son of the late Robert Johnson and Lillie Johnson. He was educated in the public schools of Rock Hill and graduated from Emmett Scott High School in Rock Hill. He earned his divinity degree from Baltimore College of the Bible. He joined Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in York County at an early age and was an Army veteran.

The Rev. Johnson served as chaplain for the Annie Mae Hunter's Home for the Blind and as assistant pastor of Timothy Baptist Church. He served as pastor of St. Phillips Baptist Church for 20 years.

He was a federal employee and served for 38 years, retiring in 1988 as a supervisor.

Surviving are his wife, Lurlena Barber Johnson; six sons, Jefferson Johnson Sr., Nathaniel Johnson Jr., Andrew Johnson, Thomas Jefferson Sr. and Ernest Johnson Sr., all of Baltimore, and the Rev. Anthony Johnson of Rock Hill; his daughter, Lillie Diana of Baltimore; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Joseph L. Russ Funeral Home was in charge.

Timothy Lyman

FORT MILL - Mr. Timothy James Lyman, 38, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral was Dec. 9 at Floyd's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Eldora, Iowa, Mr. Lyman was a son of Franklin Dean Lyman and Elsie Jane Lyman of Lake City. He was a graduate of Lake City High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Francis Marion University and his pharmacist's degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a pharmacist at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. He also was a high school and grade school teacher at Waccamaw Academy in Conway and at Lake City High School.

Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, Dr. Frank Lavern Lyman of Columbia, Alex Miles of Walhalla and Legran Miles of Florence; his maternal great-grandmother, Edna Braddock of Sumter; and his paternal grandfather, Everett Lyman of New Providence, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to the Timothy James Lyman Scholarship Fund, University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy.

Brockington Funeral Home in Lake City was in charge.

Gladys Rikard

MYRTLE BEACH - Mrs. Gladys Irvine Rikard, 92, of 4452 Socastee Blvd., formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Grand Strand Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Greenwood, Mrs. Rikard was a daughter of the late Claudie Irvine and Laura M. Dudley Irvine. She was the widow of Curtis J. Rikard. She was a member Park Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sister, Eunice Nash of Bessemer City, N.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

O. Marvin Shugart

ROCK HILL - Mr. O. Marvin Shugart, 56, of 3033 Lesslie Highway died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Curtis Marshall officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Shugart was a son of the late Albert Newton Shugart Sr. and Lillie Elkins Shugart. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Rock Hill Moose Lodge No. 1720. He was a former member of the Pinetuck Golf Course and Spring Lake Country Club. He was employed with Rick Faile Weather Tite.

Surviving are his son, Todd R. Shugart of Richburg; his daughter, Melissa L. Shugart of Rock Hill; three brothers, Albert N. Shugart of Richburg, Charlie A. Shugart of Rock Hill and Carlton C. "Pete" Shugart of Lesslie; three sisters, Faye S. Malone of Lesslie and Shelby S. Moore and Donnie S. Good, both of Rock Hill; his girlfriend, Jean Inman of Lesslie; six grandchildren and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Donnette Alma Good, 806 Cedar St., Rock Hill.

Charles Kelly

BLADENBORO, N.C. - Mr. Charles Livingston "Livy" Kelly, 75, of Bladenboro died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lennon's Crossroads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bennie Pledger officiating. Burial will be at Kelly Cemetery.

Mr. Kelly was owner and operator of Kelly Supply Co. in Bladenboro and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Kelly; two sons, Darrell L. Kelly of Bladenboro and Kenneth C. Kelly of Dillwyn, Va.; his daughter, Elizabeth Kelly Garvey of Rock Hill; two sisters, Edith Hedgepeth of Bladenboro and Hazel Lennon of Lumberton, N.C.; his brother, Eugene Kelly of Bladenboro; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Lewis Funeral Home.

Catherine Long

LAURENS - Mrs. Catherine Bowers Long, 76, formerly of Silverstreet, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Laurens County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Silverstreet Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert McCollom officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Newberry County, Mrs. Long was a daughter of the late J.H. Bowers and Annie Nichols Bowers. She was retired from the General Electric Plant at Irmo. She was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, Carl E. Long; her son, Larry Long of Clinton; two daughters, Barbara L. Sanford of Chesapeake, Va., and Beth Dills of Rock Hill; two brothers, J.H. Bowers Jr. of Silverstreet and Guy Bowers of Newberry; and her sister, Frances B. Long of Newberry.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home.

L.C. McCoy

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. L.C. McCoy, 72, of 209 Biggers St., formerly of Chester, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Century Care Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Lowrys, with the Rev. Bobby Featherstone officiating and the Rev. George Lowery giving the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. McCoy was a son of the late A.C. McCoy and Mattie McCoy. He was a retired custodian with the Gaston County school system. He was a former staff member of Wallace Funeral Home in Chester and Costner Funeral Home in Gastonia, N.C. He was a member of the St. Paul's Baptist Church and the Prayer Band. He attended Chester County School.

Surviving are his wife, Mamie B. McCoy; three sons, L. Houston McCoy, Dorth McCoy and Robert McCoy, all of Gastonia; 10 daughters, Janie Mae Jennings and Julia Ann McCoy, both of Chester, Reola Mayfield of McConnells and Sarah Jennings, Rosanna McCoy, Denise McCoy, Yvonnne Campbell, Kathleen McCoy, Loretha McCoy and Delores Leach, all of Gastonia; two sisters, Mary Strong of Rock Hill and Rosa Lee Jackson of Chester; her brother, John McCoy of Chester; 40 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends the home of Reola Mayfield, 1294 Pine Sweep Road, McConnells.

The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

William Goodson

CLOVER - Mr. William "Slim" Delbert Goodson, 62, of 112 Sunset Drive died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Spear officiating. Burial will be at Oakview Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Goodson was a son of Mattie Penning-ton Goodson of Clover and the late William Goodson. He was an Army veteran.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sons, Brian Goodson and William Roy Goodson, both of Clover; and his sister, Catherine Moses of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home.

Edith Miller

CHESTER - Mrs. Edith Arlene Wages Miller, 80, of 110 Hampton St. died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Williams officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late John Edward Wages and Ada Nance Wages. She was the widow of Bernard Haywood Miller. Mrs. Miller was a retired secretary for the Chester County school district. She was a graduate of Chester High School and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Bernard H. Miller Jr. of Pawley's Island; her daughter, Linda JoAnn "Jo" Turner of Chester; her brother, Thomas Woodrow Wages of Buffalo; her sister, Cora Wages Johnson of Myrtle Beach; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Home.

Cordie Morgan

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Cordie Jane Morgan Morgan, 90, of Wood-wynn Drive, formerly of Clover, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home in Clover, with the Revs. Harry Bryant and Marvin Greenway. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Mrs. Morgan was retired from Bowling Green Spinning and was a member of Bowling Green First Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Keith Morgan and Charles Morgan, both of York, and Lionel Morgan of Clover; five daughters, Geraldine Moran of Danville, Va., Mary Sue Ballard and Pat Yancey, both of Gastonia, and Dianne Sams and Gilda Warlick, both of Clover; her brother, John Morgan of Shelby, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Gilda Warlick, 1683 N. Highway 321, Clover.

Mary Schultz

MOUNT PLEASANT - Mrs. Mary Blakeley Schultz, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at a local nursing home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Burial will be at Half Way Creek Cemetery.

A native of Berkeley County, Mrs. Schultz was a daughter of the late John Blakeley and Sarah Elizabeth Ackerman Blakeley.

Surviving are three daughters, Ima Haselden of Rock Hill, Blanche Haselden of Huger and Nynetta Ackerman of Shulerville; three sons, Henry S. Schultz and H. Oliver Schultz, both of Rock Hill, and J. James Schultz of Lake Wylie;

20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Louise Summers

LANCASTER - Mrs. Louise "Granny" Threatt Summers, 87, of new Cut Church Road died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Cut Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Wayne Dickson and Cecil Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Summers was a daughter of the late Henry Wilson Threatt and Addie Elaine Gibson Threatt. She was the widow of Avery Lelon Summers. A homemaker, she was a member of New Cut Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her son, Robert L. Summers of Lancaster; five daughters, Peggy Stout of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Edith Workman, Judy Dingler, Carolyn Summers and Toni Flynn, all of Lancaster; her brother, George W. Threatt of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.
