Clyde Irwin Jr.
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Mr. Clyde Edwin "Ed" Irwin Jr. of Wilmington died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Bankhead officiating. Entombment will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Mr. Irwin was a son of Uneka Haynes of Knoxville and the late Clyde E. Irwin Sr. He graduated from Central High School in Fountain City, Tenn., and the University of Tennessee after serving in the Navy. He worked as a sales representative for Pfizer Laboratories in Charlotte. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Boy Scout and youth leader. He also served as commissioner of the Southpark Youth Association. He was a member of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church in Wilmington.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Donna Carpenter Irwin; three sons, Michael Alan Irwin, Steven Wesley Irwin, and Douglas Haynes Irwin, all of Charlotte; two daughters, Catherine Irwin Holland of Charlotte and Martha Irwin Butler of Greensboro, N.C.; his brother, Ned C. Irwin of Jonesborough, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and his special friend, Ann Atkins Irwin.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.

Ulysses Jordan
ROCK HILL - Mr. Ulysses Jordan, 73, of 1624 Neely Road died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, in Newark, N.J.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Baxter officiating and the Revs. J.H. Bailey and Bobbie Lindsay assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Mr. Jordan was retired from Jordan's Masonry. He attended Emmett Scott High School and Friendship Junior College. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Hymn Choir and the Gold Plus Club. He served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are three daughters, Pettus Ann J. Durham of Hollywood, Fla., Carolyn J. Benjamin of Charlotte and Marilyn Jordan of Newark; his son, Asim Abdullah Muhammad of Newark; his sister, Dorothy L. Jordan of Charlotte and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Parker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Betty Donovan, 942 Rolling Green, Rock Hill.
The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Bernice Parks
DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Bernice Eunice Gentry Parks, 62, of 134 Blue Jay St. died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Calvin Hines officiating. Burial will be at Schoolfield Cemetery.
A native of Elkin, N.C., Mrs. Parks lived most of her life in Danville, where she retired from Dan River Inc. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her son, Darrell Murdock of Danville; four daughters, Carol Maples, Sandra Leisten and Patsy Rainey, all of Rock Hill, and Laura Adams of Stanley, N.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Gentry of Danville and Norman Gentry of Rock Hill; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home.
Thomas Potts
ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas Eugene "Heaf" Potts, 37, of 1126 Ellen Ave. died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at United AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Nicklen officiating and the Rev. Barber assisting. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Fort Mill.
Mr. Potts was a construction worker and attended Fort Mill High School.
Surviving are his mother, Ethel Mae Potts of Rock Hill; three brothers, Antonio Potts of Charlotte, and Milton McFadden and Jessie McFadden, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Martha McFadden and Tamela McFadden, both of Fort Mill, and Arnissa Tinnin of Rock Hill; and his grandmother, Annie Lee Potts of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6:30 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home and at other times at 984 Steele St., Fort Mill.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Clyburn Steele
LANCASTER - Mr. Clyburn William Steele, 72, of 1692 Flat Creek Road died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at home.
A private memorial service will be held later.
A native of Great Falls, Mr. Steele was a son of the late Walter Connie Steele and Gertrude Phillips Steele. A Navy veteran, Mr. Steele was retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving are two sons, Rick Steele of Lancaster and Scott Steele of Lilburn, Ga.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ronald Wade
LANDO - Mr. Ronald Douglas "Moose" Wade, 66, of 3771 Lando Road died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at home.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lando Cemetery, with the Rev. Sam Warwick officiating.
A native of Lando, Mr. Wade was a son of the late Claude Wade and Vada Orr Wade. He was a retiree of Manetta Mills. Mr. Wade was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Wade; his son, Robert Wade of Lando; his daughter, Kathy Bagley of Edgemoor; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Shirley Young
CHESTER - Mrs. Shirley Ann Foster Young of 104 Edward St. died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Wilson Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Bryson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Mary Black Foster and Thomas Foster Sr. She attended the Chester County schools and was a member of Second Wilson Baptist Church. She was the widow of David "Monkey Man" Young.
Surviving are eight children, Terry Foster, David Young, Charles Young, Aris Young, Kenneth Young, Mary Foster, Shirley Chisholm and Gretta Hopkins, all of Chester; her brother, Thomas Foster of Chester; her sister, Betty Graham of Chester; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her devoted friend, Bobby Hayes.
The family will receive friends at home and at the home of Terry Foster, 221 McFadden St.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.
The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Ann Clark
LANCASTER - Mrs. Ann Catoe Clark, 46, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Memorial Chapel at McCray Funeral Home, with the Rev. M.L. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Clark was the daughter of Euree Catoe and the late Robert Catoe Jr. She was converted at an early age and baptized at Bright Light Baptist Church. She was a 1971 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and worked in the deli department at Winn Dixie.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Clark; two sons, Stanford Clark and Marcus Clark; her mother, Euree Catoe; five brothers, Michael Catoe, Frank Catoe, William Catoe, Calvin Catoe and Mitchell Catoe; six sisters, Emma Catoe, Jean Cauthen, Mary Truesdale, Cynthia Flowers, Debra McWhirter and Regena Catoe; her granddaughter and other relatives.
The family will receives friends the hour before the funeral at the funeral home.

Harley Collins
RICHBURG - Mr. Harley Collins, 61, of 6184 William Martin Road, died Saturday, December 4, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lando Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Harrison and Bruce Catoe officiating. Interment will follow in the Lando cemetery.
Born in Chester County, Collins was the son of the late Sam and Helen Collins. He was a self-employed barber, auctioneer and salesman, attended Chester County schools and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Collins was a member of Lando Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Collins; three daughters, Darla Ross of Richburg, Angel Willard of York and Terri Chappel of Chester; six brothers, Edward Collins and Charles Collins, both of Chester, Steve Collins of Richburg, Jimmy Collins of Lando, Kenneth Collins of Rock Hill, and Wayne Collins of Lancaster; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.
Alma Cumbee
RIDGE SPRING - Mrs. Alma Sanders Cumbee, 93, of Ridge Spring died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. J. Chris Fischer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Ridge Spring, Mrs. Cumbee was the daughter of the late Darling and Maggie Jackson Sanders. She was a retired owner of a country store and was a member of Moiunt Calvary Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her son, Harold Cumbee of Ridge Spring; two daughters, Geneva Raborn of York and Josephine Baughman of Okeechobee, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Dennis Gladney
CHESTER - Dennis "Red" Gladney, 72, of 1433 Old Columbia Road died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Fairfield County. The Rev. R. L. McClurkin will officiate, assisted by the Rev. G.T. Green. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born Oct. 15, 1927, in Fairfield County, Mr. Gladney was the son of the late Willie W. Gladney and the late Maggie Banks Gladney. He was retired from the Martin Marietta Rock Quarry in Cayce. He was a member and chairman of the trustee board of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and was a member of the gospel choir.
Surviving is his wife, Lyna Bell Foster Gladney; three daughters, Betty Spriggs of Baltimore, Frances Cherry of Rock Hill and Mahallia Canty of Landover, Md.; two brothers, Joe Willie Gladney of Columbia and Elmore Gladney of Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, Rose Ann Taylor of Columbia, and Carrie Gladney, Corine Gladney, Magdelene Gladney and Yvonne Willingham, all of Winnsboro; four granchildren, including a granddaughter whom he reared, Michelle Kelley of Charlotte; and five great-grandchildren.

David Lee Jessee
FORT MILL - Mr. David Lee Jessee, 46, of 3248 Caroland Drive died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Jason Hurt officiating. Burial will follow at Centergrove Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Indian Land.
Born in Port Clinton, Ohio, Mr. Jessee was the son of Norma Jessee and the late Kenneth Lee Jessee. Formerly of Memphis, Tenn., he and his family moved to Indian Land in 1985.
Surviving are his wife, Tara Jessee; his mother, Norma Jessee of Charlotte; two sons, David Lee Jessee Jr. and Daniel Lee Jessee, both of Fort Mill; and his sister, Pamela Claunch of Memphis.

Samuel Mendenhall
ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Brooks Mendenhall, 63, of 1756 Ebenezer Road died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Presbyterian AR Church, with Dr. R. Boyce Wilson and Dr. Jack Basie officiating.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Mendenhall was the son of the late George and Margaret Mendenhall. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and University of South Carolina School of Law.
Mr. Mendenhall was a Family Court judge until his retirement in 1992. He served four terms in the state House of Representatives and seven years in the state Senate. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Mendenhall; his son, Robert Mendenhall of McConnells; his daughter, Mary Mendenhall-Catoe of Cornelius, N.C.; his sister, Georgene Sherer of Wilmington, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home of the family, 1756 Ebenezer Road.
