PINEVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Larry Dale Bridges, 45, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in Fort Mill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Southland Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jason Coley and Jonathan Keeffe officiating. Burial will be in the Pineville City Cemetery.
A native of San Diego, Mr. Bridges was the son of Joe Bridges Sr. of Pineville and the late Dollie Bridges.
Surviving in addition to his father are his daughter, Lauren Nicole Bridges of Rock Hill; his brother, Joe Bridges Jr. of Charlotte; and his foster sister, Sherry Rice of Ohio.
The family will receive friends at 911 Hill St., after the service.

YORK - Mrs. Linda Lea McCallister Walker, 56, of 223 Brown Neal Road died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, with Mr. Wiley Baines officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Memory Garden.
A native of West Virginia, Mrs. Walker was a daughter of Myron McCallister of Dunbar, W.Va., and the late Edith Lawson McCallister. She was a homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Robert Walker; two daughters, Kelly Walker Beam of Indian Trail, N.C., and Bambi Sheppard of Hickory Grove; two brothers, John Peter McCallister of Marion, Ohio, and Myron McCallister of Pennsylvania; six sisters, Judy Harris of Simpsonville, Debbie Droddy of Dunbar, Billie Ann Runyon of Ohio, Cindy Forsythe of East Strausburg, Pa., Betty Jo Robinson of Shelby, N.C., and Jane Young of Scott Depot, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.

YORK - Mr. Charles Grayson "Chuck" Helms Jr., 30, of 1271 King Road died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sidney Shuford and Ron Culberson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
A native of York, Mr. Helms was a mill operator and worked for Avako Ajax in York. He was a graduate of York Comprehensive High School.
Surviving are his wife, Tammie Thomas Helms; his son, Cody Helms of the home; two stepsons, Justin Gouge and Trevor Gouge, both of York; his father, Charles G. Helms Sr. of York; his mother, Barbara Ann Adams of York; and his sister, Theresa H. Baucom of York.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.
E. Gilbert Sturgis, Sr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. E. Gilbert Sturgis, Sr., 90, of 175 Hillcrest Drive died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at home.
The funeral was Friday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Tim McClendon officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of York County, Mr. Sturgis was the son of the late Ewell and Annie Enloe Sturgis.
Mr. Sturgis was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the A.M. Graham Bible class. Mr. Sturgis was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He worked at the Farmer's Exchange for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Sturgis; his son, E.G. (Buddy) Sturgis Jr. of Hopkins; two brothers, Paul Sturgis and Albert Sturgis, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Annie Bell Dodson of Rock Hill; and his grandson.
Memorials can be made to St. John's United Methodist Church.

Danny Adams
LANCASTER - Mr. Danny Ray Adams, 49, of 1525 Kings Circle died Friday Sept. 3, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of God of Prophecy, with the Revs. Ted Tinker and Bruce Craig officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Adams is a son of Inez Baker Adams and the late William Cleatus Adams. He was a hair stylist and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving in addition to his mother are four sisters, Helen Adams Sullivan of Augusta, Ga., and Sybil Adams Lynn, Carolyn Adams Caskey and Bonnie Twite, all of Lancaster; two brothers, William J. "Buck" Adams and William Eugene Adams, both of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Hartley Funeral Home at 1800 Charlotte Highway in Lancaster.

Robert Barber
RICHBURG - Mr. Robert L. Barber, 85, of 4019 Wylie's Mill Road died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Vernon AME Zion Church, with the Rev. J.E. Johnson officiating, and Dr. Marian Crawford and Brother James E. Hayes assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Chester County, Mr. Barber was a son of the late William Barber and Lillie Howze Barber. He was a member of the Mount Vernon AME Zion Church, attended Chester County public schools and was retired from Manetta Mills of Lando.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Cherry Barber of the home; his son, J.C. Cherry of Edgemoor; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
The remains may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.
The body will be carried to the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Asa Grant
CHESTER - Mr. Asa Boyd Grant, 97, of 2322 Armenia Road died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Armenia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fant Steele officiating. Burial will follow at the Armenia United Methodist Church cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mr. Grant was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Armenia United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of the Armenia School and was a member of Sandy River Masonic Lodge No. 277. He was a son of the late Pierce and Anna Jackson Darby Grant.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin B. Grant of Chester and Walter Ervin Grant of Annadale, Va.; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Edward Brooks
ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Lee Brooks, 55, of 20 Paxton St. died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in Rock Hill.
The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Revs. Dr. Robert Taylor and Bruce Wyatt officiating.
A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Brooks was a son of the late William L. Brooks and Rosie Roland Brooks. Mr. Brooks attended Liberty Baptist Church and worked 30 years for the Tar Heel Container Corp. before joining the South Carolina Highway Department as a trade specialist III.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene Threat Brooks; two sons, William Edward "Ed" Brooks of Fort Mill and Danny Ray Brooks of Rock Hill; his daughter, Renee B. Cloninger of Chester; his brother, Alfred Brooks of Orangeburg; four sisters, Bobbi Bracken of Hendersonville, N.C., Violet B. Schuler and Betty Rains, both of Brevard, N.C., and Beulah Mae Lewis of Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

Mary Dewese
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary "Alice" Dewese, 106, of Rock Hill died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at White Oak Manor.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the pastor Dr. John T. McCoy officiating and the Revs. Charles Kiser, Willie Page, B.R. Wilson, Ronnie Broome and Bobby Lindsey assisting. The Rev. John H. Bailey will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Dewese was a daughter of the late Henry Camp and Polly Thompson Camp. She was the widow of Caleb Dewese. Mrs. Dewese was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where she was in Missionary Circle No. 1 AP Society.
Surviving are her grandson, Arthur C. Hemphill of Rock Hill; her granddaughter, Ann Bragg of Charlotte; 12 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Arthur C. Hemphill, 1514 Crawford Road.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 7 tonight at Clemons Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at noon Monday.
Carl Mauney
CLOVER - Mr. Carl Evan Mauney, 82, of 1280 Faulkner Road died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Clover ARP Church, with the Rev. Rob Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Bethany ARP Church cemetery.
A native of Gaston County, Mr. Mauney was a son of the late William F. Mauney and Beulah Metcalfe Mauney. He was a graduate of North Carolina State and a retired agriculture teacher in the Clover school district. He was a farmer for many years. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Mr. Mauney was a member of Clover ARP Church, where he was a deacon and elder.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Stroupe Mauney of the home; his daughter, Linda Ricker of Gastonia, N.C.; two sons, Carl Mauney Jr. and William S. Mauney, both of Clover; his brother, James Mauney of Crouse, N.C.; five sisters, Lois Neill of Garden City, Betty Price of Clover, Myrtle Clark of Bessemer City, N.C., and Thelma Propst and Ava Anthony, both of Cherryville, N.C.; and his grandson.
The family will receive friends after the graveside service in the Clover ARP Church Fellowship Hall.

Grace Huggin White
ROCK HILL - Grace Huggin White, a former Rock Hill school board and planning commission member, died Friday at Ebenezer Nursing Home.
She was 87 years old.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church.
Born in Greenville, Mrs. White was a daughter of the late Rev. James George Huggin and Olive McKown Huggin. She was the widow of James White Jr.
Mrs. White was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She was a retired public school teacher and was a graduate of Winthrop College. Mrs. White served on the Board of Education for the Rock Hill school district, was on the Rock Hill Planning Commission, was a member of the Over the Teacups book club and was a volunteer at Hope House.
Surviving are two sons, James Spratt White IV and George Huggin White, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Jeanie White Presto of Rock Hill, Lucile White Wood of Charlotte and Sallie White Scheide of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. Sunday at the home of John and Jeanie Presto, 639 College Ave.

KERSHAW - Mr. Thomas Pershing Bass Sr., 78, of 308 North Ingram St. died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at his home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Kershaw, with the Rev. Robert Eubanks officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Bass was a son of the late Earl and Daisy Bass. Mr. Bass was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Abney Masonic Lodge No. 211 and the Omar Shrine Temple. A Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Bass was a member of the VFW. He was retired from being the water and sewer operator for Springs Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Bass; his son, Thomas Bass Jr. of Camden; his daughter, Deborah Crompton of Kershaw; his brother, Earl Bass Jr. of Lancaster; his sister, Dorothy Hancock of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
