GAFFNEY - Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Gladden, 88, of 510 Thompson St., formerly of York, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Brookview Health Care Center.
A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill.
A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Gladden was a daughter of the late James Henry Williams and Mary Jane Hunter Williams. She was the widow of Jess Gladden. Mrs. Gladden was a homemaker and member of Allison Creek Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are several stepchildren and several nieces and nephews.

G. Herbert Kelley
GREAT FALLS - Mr. G. Herbert Kelley, 75, of 13 Poplar St. died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Bradley, Gary Haynes, and Gary Lockee officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
A native of Louisville, Ga., Mr. Kelley was a son of the late Jim Tom Kelley and Rose Todd Kelley. He was retired from the Chester County Sheriffs Department and was a retired barber. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 277.
Surviving are five daughters, Barbara K. Clark of Chester, Phyllis K. Hopkins and Sandra Lee Sauer, both of Great Falls, Frances K. Woodard of Jefferson and Ann Bentley of Summerville; his sister, Mildred Black of Gibson, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Bobby Kennington
LANCASTER - Mr. Bobby Nelson Kennington, 63, of 2363 Flat Creek Road died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Frank Barwig and Lee Leonard officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Kennington was a son of the late Boyce Herbert Kennington and Viola Adams Kennington. He was owner and operator of 903 Tire Center. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Hayes Kennington; his son, Bobby Darrell Kennington of Lancaster; his daughter, Tammy Kennington Stroud of Lancaster; his brother, William Steve Kennington of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.

LANCASTER - Mrs. Frances Thomas Johnson of Lancaster died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Tanglewood Nursing Center in Ridgeway.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mahaffey Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of Martha Usher Thomas Landon of Lancaster and the late Arnold Garnet Thomas. She was the widow of Robert James Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Ernest E. Polston of Fort Myers, Fla., and Phillip W. "Phil" Polston of Lancaster; two brothers, James Thomas of Monroe, N.C., and Lewis Thomas of Lancaster; her sister, Maxine Estese of Chester; and three grandchildren.

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Martha McFadden Matheson, 82, of 1352 Malcris Drive died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Mrs. Matheson was a daughter of the late William Clyde McFadden and Mattie White Abernathy McFadden. She was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her husband, John William Matheson Sr.; her son, John William Matheson Jr. of Fort Lawn; two daughters, Mary Matheson Montgomery of Austin, Texas, and Margaret Matheson Edwards of Charlotte; her brother, J.C. McFadden of Ridgeway; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Pace Moseley, 57, of Summerwood Circle died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at home.

A native of Camden, Mr. Moseley was a son of the late William Capers and Rose Nelle Pace Moseley. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran. He was retired from Liberty Life Insurance and was past president of the Life Underwriters Training Council. Mr. Moseley attended the University of South Carolina.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jahn Moseley; two sons, William Brett Moseley of Durham, N.C., and Brian Capers Moseley of San Francisco; his brother, Robert Capers Moseley of North Augusta; and his sister, Margaret Suzanne Cantrell of Myrtle Beach.

Jacob Stone Sr.
LAURENS - Mr. Jacob Feaster "Jake" Stone Sr., 90, formerly of 157 Lacy St., Chester, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center in Laurens.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Wingate officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mr. Stone was a son of the late Nathan Hampton Stone and Annie McAfee Stone. Mr. Stone was a retired firefighter with the Chester City Fire Department. He was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. A graduate of Chester High School, he was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Bertie D. Stone; two sons, George Stone of Chester and Jacob F. Stone Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C.; his brother, Nathan H. Stone of Chester; and four grandchildren.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Beatrice "Bea" E. Alderman of Rock Hill died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A native of Kershaw County, Mrs. Alderman was a daughter of the late Thomas J. Ellis and Elizabeth Mahaffey Ellis. She was the widow of Harold Alderman.
Surviving are her daughter, Joy Tice; two sisters, Lynda Wright and Oveida Jackson; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a granddaughter, Beatrice Tice, who lived with her grandmother for a number of years.

A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Bankhead was a son of the late William McLin Bankhead and Esther McKeown Bankhead. He was a retired supervisor with J.P. Stevens Co. and owner of Alvin Bankhead Construction Co. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. He was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Rossville Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Simpson Bankhead; three daughters, Lynn B. Jackson of Manning, Susan B. Andrews of Lamar and Pixley B. Roberson of Lexington; two brothers, William Bankhead and Karl Bankhead, both of Blackstock; his sister, Elizabeth Cornwell; and six grandchildren.

A native of Jefferson, Mrs. Geiger was a daughter of the late Lonnie Rollings and Josie Hopkins Rollings. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Jefferson.

Geiger; five sons, Billy Joe Geiger of Lancaster, Jerry Geiger of Jefferson, Tony Geiger of Camden, and Jackie Geiger and Howard Geiger, both of Kershaw; two daughters, Betty Jean Stevens and Carol Taylor, both of Kershaw; five sisters, Edna Mae Eubanks of Pageland, Bessie Mae Lee of Charlotte and Allie R. Catoe, Mamie R. Price and Maude R. Price, all of Jefferson; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

LANCASTER - Mr. Jesse Burns "Jake" Rivers Sr., 87, of 293 Monroe Highway died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shiloh ARP Church, with the Rev. Lauton officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chesterfield, Mr. Rivers was a son of the late David Charlton Rivers and Sara Nell Eddins Rivers. He was a member of Shiloh ARP Church, where he was a deacon and elder. He retired as an engineer for the L&C Railroad after 29 years of service. A Mason, he was a 50-year member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53 and former president of the Lancaster Civitan Club.
Surviving are his wife, Jessie Lathan Rivers; three sons, David L. Rivers Sr. of Lancaster, Dr. J.B. Rivers Jr. of Columbia and Laurin S. Rivers of Gaston; his daughter, Nancy Thompson of Columbia; his brother, Vernon Cohen Rivers of Charleston; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Idell Taylor
KERSHAW - Mrs. Idell Hinson Taylor, 91, of 481 Blackwell Drive died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Heath Springs, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late Daniel Judson Hinson and Della Vincent Hinson. A homemaker, Mrs. Taylor was a member of First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 94 and the Kershaw Senior Citizens.
Surviving are her son, Robert S. "Bob" Taylor of Keystone Heights, Fla.; three daughters, Sara T. Corbett of Wagener, Barbara Broughton of Laurel Hill, N.C., and Patricia Faile of Lugoff; her sister, Lucile H. Scott of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

James Wertz Sr.
RICHBURG - Mr. James Luther "Colie" Wertz Sr., 91, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Union ARP Church, with the Revs. Allen Derrick, Karl Bernsdorff and Rick Mason officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Leesville, Mr. Wertz was a son of the late James E. Wertz and Florence Eargle Wertz. He earned his master's degree from the University of South Carolina and his bachelor's degree from Newberry College. He was a lifelong supporter of Newberry College and was active in athletics and various extracurricular activities while a student. Mr. Wertz served as a school administrator in Newberry, Florence, Marlboro, Lancaster and Chester counties. He was an active supporter of high school athletics and served on the board of the South Carolina High School League. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and was active in Lutheran church activities throughout his life.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Wertz of Lancaster and Ron Wertz of Irmo; and four grandchildren.
