KERSHAW - Mrs. Wincie Bernice Watkins Twitty, 87, of 510 W. Stevens Drive died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bryan D. Fersner Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of McBee, Mrs. Twitty was a daughter of the late Houston and Eliza Ellen Norris Watkins. She was the widow of Robert Twitty. Retired from Springs Industries, Mrs. Twitty was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Richard Twitty of Minot, N.D., Crystal Sams of Kershaw and Linda Catoe of Greenwood; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sams, 510 W. Stevens Drive, Kershaw.
C. Arnold Wallace
ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Arnold "Arnie" Wallace, 50, 1218 Deerwood Court died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.
The memorial service will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Boone officiating. Burial will be private.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Wallace was a son of the late Jordan V. Wallace and Frances Ayers Wallace. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. An Army veteran, Mr. Wallace was a maintenance worker at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
Surviving are his brother, Terry V. Wallace of York; and his sister, Gail W. Fowler of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Bertha Alexander
MCCONNELLS - Ms. Bertha Mae Alexander, 61, of 5392 Chester Highway died Saturday, June 26,1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Lowrys, with the Rev. Bobby Featherstone officiating and the Rev. Joe Lee assisting. The Rev. George Lowery will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Ms. Alexander was a daughter of the late Wadell Alexander and Lula McConnell Alexander. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, the AP&B Society No. 8. A homemaker, she attended the public schools of Chester County.
Surviving are three sons, Elbert Alexander, Kenneth B. Alexander and Dennis J. Alexander, all of McConnells; two daughters, Perlester A. McNeal of Rock Hill and Regina Alexander of McConnells; two nephews whom she raised, Ronnie D. Alexander of McConnells and Ronnie A. Hughes of York; her niece whom she raised, LaShawn Hughes Thompson of York; three brothers, Jerry W. Alexander and Frazier Alexander, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Drayton Harris of Elizabeth, N.J.; her sister, Lula Mae Crank of Chester; 10 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.
The body may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Friday.
John Dabney Jr.
CHESTER - Mr. John Thomas Dabney Jr., 79, of 114 Reedy St. died Monday, June 28, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.
A native of Kershaw County, Mr. Dabney was a son of the late Rev. John Thomas Dabney and Eva Mae Ogburn Dabney. He was retired from Springs Industries. Mr. Dabney was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Agoga Sunday school class and the Chancel Choir. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He attended the schools of Chester and Kershaw counties. He was a member of the Chester Masonic Lodge No. 18 and the Golden Age Club.
Surviving are his wife, Lorene Warmoth Dabney; his daughter, Lana Lovvorn of Greenwood; seven brothers, Edwin Dabney and Ogburn Dabney, both of Camden, Charlie Dabney and Keith Dabney, both of Florence, and Phillip Dabney, Wayne Dabney and Larry Dabney, all of California; four sisters, Libby Gurley of Anaheim, Calif., Juliette Joy of Florence, Clarice Taylor of Camden and Gwen Mincey of Loris.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sarah Duncan Denning, 87, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.
The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill with the Rev. R. V. Greer officiating.
A native of Chester County, Mrs. Denning was a daughter of the late Isaac Duncan and Estelle Yongue Duncan. She was lifelong resident of Rock Hill, where she was active in the First Baptist Church, the Town and Country Garden Club, the Women's Club and the Red Cross.
Surviving are her husband, Garrett Hobart Denning; her daughter, Betty Jo Cox of Mullins; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

YORK - Mr. John Haggins, 65, of 104 Valley Road died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A native of York, Mr. Haggins was a son of the late Clyde Haggins and Ophelia Berry Haggins. He was a member of Gold Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Daisy Mae Haggins; two grandsons whom he reared, Markish Adams and Keith Simpson, both of the home; six sons, Michael Simpson and Clyde Simpson, both of York, James Simpson, Dannie Davis, and Pete Floyd, all of Charlotte and Clinzo Sanders of Hickory, N.C.; six daughters, Patricia Carter of Charlotte, Doris Simpson, Janet Patton, Yvonne Simpson, all of York, Diane Ramseur and Odessa McCombs, both of Hickory, N.C.; two brothers, William Haggins of York and Frank Haggins of Trenton, N.J.; five sisters, Pauline Gundee of Trenton, N.J., Maggie Curry, Johnnie Mae Hefney, Iva Lee Miller, all of Rock Hill, and Christine Young; 31 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Winnifred Lewis
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Winnifred Virginia DeJarnette Lewis of 1660 India Hook Road died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Entombment will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Mausoleum in Phoenix.
A native of Sedalia, Mo., Mrs. Lewis was a daughter of the late Charles DeJarnette and Hallie Erskine DeJarnette Seller. She was the widow of Ericson Lewis. She was "Daughter of the Nile," ABC "Life Master" and Sigma Sigma Sigma Mother of the Year.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. Lewis of Lake Wylie and Robert T. Lewis of Winnetka, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Norman Wayne Lipford, 41, of 47 Broad St. died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Lake Wateree in Fairfield County.

A native of Union, Mr. Lipford was a son of the late Douglas Norman Lipford and Janie Ruth Inman Lipford. He was a carpenter with Dellinger Bridge Building Corp. He attended the schools of Great Falls.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy M. Lipford; two sons, Travis Ray Lipford and John Douglas Lipford, both of the home; and his sister, Dorothy Jordan of Chester.

LANCASTER - Mr. Sammie H. Mangum, 59, of 1468 Springdale Road died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Mangum was a son of the late J.C. Mangum and Grace Nicholson Mangum. He was the widower of Mary Myrtle Hinson Mangum. Mr. Mangum was a retired manager for Gates Service Station.
Surviving are six daughters, Renee Mangum Jones, Margie Michaw, Brenda K. White, Millie J. Hall, Betty R. Mangum and Mary Jane Williams, all of Lancaster; five sons, John Jack Hinson, Donnie Wayne Hinson, Ricky Lynn Hinson, William "Goat" Hinson, James Edward Hinson, all of Lancaster; four brothers, Larry Mangum, Randy Mangum, Jerry Mangum and Tony Mangum, all of Lancaster; three sisters, Dianne Mangum and Wanda Robinson, both of Lancaster and Janice Harris of Lando; 30 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

LANCASTER - Mrs. Frances Miriam Small Parker, 79, of 607 E. Arch St. died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Parker was a daughter of the late John Walter Small and Mamie Sullivan Small. A homemaker, Mrs. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Women's Missionary Union.
Surviving are her husband, Rance B. Parker Sr.; her son, Rance "Randy" B. Parker Jr. of Lancaster; her daughter, Kay Neal of Rock Hill; four sisters, Sybil Cole of Rock Hill, Carolyn Shute, Betty Evans and Peggy Hilton, all of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.

Robert Snoddy
GREENVILLE - Mr. Robert Wilson Snoddy, 81, formerly of Grove Road died Monday, June 28, 1999.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, White Horse Road.
A native of Laurens County, Mr. Snoddy was a son of the late Clive Patrick Snoddy and Tessa Franks Snoddy. He was the widower of Kathleen Wood Snoddy. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a retired building supply dealer and a former commissioner of the Gantt Water and Sewer District. He was a member of Augusta Street Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Carolyn Vaughn of Murrells Inlet; his son, R. Patrick Snoddy of Charlotte; his sister, Lois Putnam of Greenville; his brother, Fred F. Snoddy of Taylors; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Myrtle Starnes
FORT MILL - Mrs. Myrtle Chapman Starnes, formerly of Spratt Street, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Monson officiating.
A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Starnes was a daughter of the late John Bates Chapman and Minnie Jane Culp Chapman. She was the widow of George Eli Starnes. She retired from Springs Industries after 23 years as a cloth inspector. Mrs. Starnes was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Fort Mill.
Surviving are her son, Ira B. Starnes of Buffalo, N.Y.; her daughter, Ruth Tucker of Charlotte; her sister, Sara Lanier of Belmont, N.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A native of Springfield, Mr. Gantt was a son of the late Wade H. Gantt and Mary Williams Gantt. He was a member of NewKirk Baptist Church. Mr. Gantt was owner and operator of Gantt Garage. He was past president of the Auto Service Council and a former member of the Elks and Lions clubs.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kirkland Gantt; his son, James G. Gantt Jr. of Atlanta; his daughter, Carole G. Chelf of Greenville; two sisters, Christine Hudspeth and Elizabeth Covington, both of Rock Hill; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
