Samuel Wylie
FOLLY BEACH - Mr. Samuel E. Wylie, 79, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Roper Care Alliance D.T.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today, at Park Circle Presbyterian Church in North Charleston, with the Rev. Achin Daffin officiating. Burial will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston.
Mr. Wylie was a Chester native. He graduated from Chester High School, and was a member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church. He was a retired welder for the Charleston Naval Shipyard, worked for Duke Power Co. as a welder technician at the company's Lake Wylie plant, and was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He worked in the ship repair unit in the Phillipines during World War II, and he worked with construction engineers in the transport unit in the Korean war. He was a member of the American Legion and B.P.O. Elks.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Childers Wylie of Folly Beach; his daughter, Anne W. Sparks of Lansdale, Penn.; his son, Thomas Edwin Wylie of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Eloise W. Taylor of Charlotte and Margaret W. Murphy of Chester; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of South Carolina, Coastal Branch, 1941 Savage Road, Charleston, SC 29407.

Florence Ashley
ROCK HILL - Miss Florence Ashley, 80, of Rock Hill died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.
Burial was at the Adnah United Methodist Church cemetery.
Born in York County, Miss Ashley was a retired clerk at Sherer's Dry Cleaners and a member of the Adnah United Methodist Church.
Surviving are 25 nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill SC 29730 or to Adnah United Methodist Church Cemetery Association, 1 Adnah Church Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Haskell Catoe Jr.
LANCASTER - Mr. Haskell "Jake" Catoe Jr., 75, of 1947 Tradesville Road died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thurmond Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Lancaster County, Mr. Catoe was a retired auto mechanic. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he was the former custodian.
Surviving are four sons, Charles Franklin "Frankie" Catoe, Larry Junior Catoe, Dennis Wayne Catoe and Herman LeGrant Catoe, all of Lancaster; his daughter, Evelyn Catoe Crenshaw of Lancaster; three sisters, Catherine Inman of Martinsville, Va., Lillian Deese and Carolyn McManus, both of Lancaster; two half sisters, Faye Lucas and Eva Adams, both of Lancaster, and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Larry Catoe on Plyler Mill Road.
Memorials may be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church, 6437 Oak Hill Church Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Paul Forrester
ANDERSON - Mr. Paul Arestus Forrester, 76, of 314 E. Hampton St. in Anderson died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McDougald Funeral Home, with the Rev. Butch Morrison officiating. Burial will be at New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.
Mr. Forrester was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 5996 and the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Korean War. He had retired from Piedmont Candy Co. after 16 years.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Mae Thrasher Forrester of the home; two sons, Connie Ray Forrester of Lawton, Okla., and Wesley Forrester of Anderson; his daughter, Paula Whitfield of Rock Hill; his brother, Boyce Forrester of Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Grace Bowen and Robbie Crawford, both of Anderson; six grandchildren; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McDougald Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Wesley Forrester, 411 Chauga Drive in Anderson.

Virginia Griffin
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Virginia Shannon Griffin, 86, of 1661 Shadyside Drive died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.
The funeral will be private. Internment will be at Grandview Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Born in Greenville, Mrs. Griffin was a homemaker and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was the widow of the late Thomas M. Griffin Sr.
Surviving are her son, Thomas M. Griffin Jr. of Tega Cay; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

H. Lawson Hunsucker
DARLINGTON - Mr. H. Lawson Hunsucker, 73, of Darlington died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Welsh Neck Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gus Spanos officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Marlboro County, Mr. Hunsucker was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church and was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the DAV, a licensed sea captain, a 51-year member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173 and a salesman at Horne Ford.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Carol Hunsucker; his son, Hugh L. Hunsucker of Rock Hill; his daughter, Sylvia H. Easterling of Weaverville, N.C.; three brothers, Marine Hunsucker of Hartsville, the Rev. Woodrow Hunsucker of Milton, Fla., and Grady Hunsucker of Murray, Utah; three sisters, Blanche Lewis and Dora Ethel Lucas, both of Florence, and Dorothy Bagnal of Williamsburg, Va.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Arthur Raymond Matthews
ROCK HILL - Mr. Arthur Raymond Matthews, 91, of 647 Walnut St. died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
A native of Roanoke Rapids, Mr. Matthews was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the owner-operator of Matthews Jewelers in St. Stephens and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Sullivan Matthews of Rock Hill; and two brothers-in-law, Howard Sullivan and Billy R. Sullivan, both of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends after the service at Greene Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Howard Sullivan, 713 S. Stonewall St., Rock Hill.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Daisy Miller
CHESTER - Mrs. Daisy Gibson Miller, 64, of 2013 Connor Road died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Rick Mason officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls.
A native of Chester, Mrs. Miller was employed with Springs Industries. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and attended Chester County schools.
Surviving are two sons, James "Jimmy" Bruce of Chester and Danny Bruce of Kings Mountain, N.C.; four daughters, Delores Stalls of Great Falls, Debbie Koon of Kinards, Terry Farmer of Rock Hill and Sue Deese of Chester; five brothers, Olin "Sonny" Gibson of Chester, Pressley Gibson of Chester, James "Charles" Gibson of Rock Hill, Curtis Hinson of Catawba and Bill Hinson of Great Falls; two sisters, Betty "Panny" Horton of Great Falls and Peggy Morrison of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight
at Barron Funeral Home.
Willard Miner
FORT MILL - Mr. Willard Walter Miner, 78, of 8036 Charlotte Highway died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Indian Land Baptist Church, with the Rev. Benny Green officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Marshfield, Wis., Mr. Miner was a Navy veteran who served during World War II. He was a heating and air conditioning technician and retired from Carrier Corp.
Surviving are his sons, Dan Miner of Denver, Colo., and Steve Miner of Indian Land; his daughter, Mary Dale of Columbia; his brother, Clifford Miner of Seattle; and his sister, Doris Miner Leavens of Seattle.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home.

Casey Montgomery
LANCASTER - Casey Montgomery, the infant son of Stacey and Wendy Montgomery of 7192 Peace Wood Trail, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Unity Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his paternal grandmother, Rikki Hudson of Fort Mill; and his maternal grandparents, Donald and Patricia Bailey of Fort Mill.
Memorials may be made to the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Terrence Patterson
SHARON - Mr. Terrence Patrick Patterson 49, of 2745 Feemster Road died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at his home.
A memorial service will be scheduled later.
A native of Barberton, Ohio, Mr. Patterson worked in construction. He was active in coaching youth football, fishing and outdoor activities.
Surviving are his son, Zachariah Patterson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his daughter, Heather Patterson of St. Petersburg; his parents, Joseph and Kathryn J. Patterson of Sharon; his brothers, Joseph Patterson Jr. of Norton, Ohio, and Lawrence Patterson and Richard Patterson, both of Sharon.
York Funeral Home is in charge.

Lyn Scott
LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Lyn Nell Scott, 82, of 861 Hamiltons Bay died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, in Lake Wylie.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. Russell Brown officiating.
Mrs. Scott was a member of River Hills Community Church, and a graduate of Greensboro Women's College. She was the widow of Charles Ernest Scott.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Crates of Clover; and her sister, Marie McLennan of Greensboro, N.C.
The family will receive friends after the service at the River Hills Community Church fellowship hall.

Ransom Welch
DEEP GAP, N.C. - Mr. Ransom E. Welch, 71, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Stony Fork Baptist Church, with the Rev. Vernon Eller officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Wilkes County, N.C., Mr. Welch was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired brick mason. He was a member of Stony Fork Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Greer Welch; his son, Charles Welch of Boone, N.C.; two daughters, Evelyn Beshears of Germanton, N.C., and Euna Dale Church of Rural Hall, N.C.; his brother, G.C. Welch of Rock Hill; his sister, Catherine Moretz of Deep Gap; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday night at Hampton Funeral Service in Boone.
