Francis Joseph Desjardins
CONWAY -- Francis J. "Frenchie" Desjardins, age 73, of Laurel Street, died Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2005 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 25, 1932 in Leominister, Mass. He was the only son of the late Joseph and Clara Desjardins. He retired from a career in the U.S. Air Force and also retired from a career at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Mr. Desjardins was an avid outdoorsman. Before his illness you might find him fishing, golfing, or bowling any day of the week. He loved life, and was a very passionate and opinionated person.
Surviving are his wife, Kazue Desjardins of Conway, and sons, Joseph Desjardins of
Texas, Michael Desjardins of Mass. and his wife Robin, and their two children, Nicole and Derek, Naoki Desjardins of Myrtle Beach and his wife Lisa, and their children, Joshua, Caleb, Joseph, Stephen and Elizabeth, Thomas Desjardins of Conway, Timothy Desjardins of Charlotte, N.C. and James Desjardins of Conway.
He is also survived by two daughters, Cassandra Desjardins of Mass. and Miki Woodward and her husband Rick, and their children, Matthew and Kelly.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from Christ Community Church with the Rev. Philip Miles officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Tarlton 'Mama Dot' Freeman
WADESBORO, N.C. -- Dorothy Tarlton "Mama Dot" Freeman, 83, of Camden Road, died Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2005 at Grand Strand Strand Regional Hospital in Myrtle Beach.
Mama Dot was born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., Feb. 20, 1922, a daughter of the lagte James Coit and Emma Drye Tarlton. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the pharmacy department of Anson County Hospital. She was a member of Forestville United Methodist Church and a certified layspeaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Battle Freeman Sr. on June 14, 2002.
Surviving are her sons, David Freeman and wife Wanda, of Little River, and Richard Freeman and wife Marjorie, of Trumbull, Conn.; four grandchildren, Doris Freeman Matal of Raleigh, N.C., Ben Freeman of Cary, N.C., Charlie Freeman of Charleston, and Daniel Freeman of Trumbull, Conn.; and six great-grandchilden.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Forestville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Thompson and the Rev. Richard Buff officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends tonight (Friday) from 7 until 9 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, N.C.

CONWAY -- Mrs. Maecee Goff died Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2005. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in New Bethel AME Church, Bayboro. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in New Bethel AME Church, Bayboro, and at 3495 Bethel Chapel Road, Loris. Jackson & McGill Funeral Service of Marion serves the family.
Margaret Goolsby
MYRTLE BEACH -- Ms. Margaret Goolsby, age 65, widow of Charles Mac Goolsby, passed away, Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2005 in Knoxville, Tenn.
Memorial services will be at Akels Family Restaurant, 6429 N. Kings Hwy., Myrtle Beach, in the back, at 9:30 p.m on Friday.
Paul Herman Jones
MULLINS -- Mr. Paul Herman Jones, 74, husband of Eleanor Boatwright Jones, died Thursday, Mar. 31, 2005 at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.
Mr. Jones was born April 11, 1930, in Marion County, a son of the late Sam P. and Mamie Smith Jones. Mr. Jones retired as Vice President with SoPakCo, producer of MRE's, ready to eat meals for the military. He also retired from the S.C. National Guard as a Major, having served with the 1st Battalion of the 263rd Armor Division. He was a graduate of Mullins High School and attended Clemson University. He was an avid golfer and a member of Pineland Country Club. Mr. Jones was a member of Center United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Jones, in addition to his Wife of the home are, two sons, Sam P. Jones and his wife Amy of Apex, N.C., and Brett M. Jones and his wife Robin, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Marie Kirkpatrick of Charlotte, N.C., Peggy C. Hannah of Myrtle Beach, and Joyce J. Johnson of Cary, N.C.; a Special Caregiver, Carolyn F. Mullins of Mullins; and Mr. Jone's Special Friend, his dog, Bud.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Deborah Taylor and the Rev. Levon Hucks officiating. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenda L. Lovitt
TABOR CITY, N.C. -- Glenda L. Lovitt, 56, passed away peacefully on Mar. 29, 2005 at her home in Tabor City,
North Carolina.
Mrs. Lovitt was born on Mar. 1, 1949, the daughter of Loman Oburryle Gerald and Lucille Agnes Gerald Cox.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. April 1, 2005, in the Buck Creek Cemetery in Longs, directed by Palmetto Funeral Home.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lovitt was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow F. Lovitt Sr.
Surviving are two sons, Woodrow Lovitt Jr. and his wife Adrian, of Tabor City, N.C., and Tony Livingston of Chesapeake, Va.; and one grandchild, Logan Lovitt.

Herbert Norman George Knight Lucas
MYRTLE BEACH -- Herbert Norman George Knight Lucas, age 93, of Wild Turkey Circle, died Wednesday, Mar. 31, 2005 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Hugh 'Mac' McKernan
SHELBURNE, Vt. -- Hugh "Mac" McKernan, 85, of Shelburne, died on Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2005 at The Arbors at Shelburne.
He was born in Attica,
N.Y. on Jan. 30, 1920, the son of the late Hugh Charles and Edith Hankey McKernan.
Mac lived and worked in Attica until his retirement. In 1984, he and his wife, Erma moved to Garden City, where he resided until 2002. He owned and operated the Attica Texaco Station and later he and Erma owned and operated the Western Auto/ True Value Hardware in Attica. He was also employed by the NYS Department of Corrections in Attica, where he supervised the cardboard box shop for several years. Mac was also a volunteer fireman and was active in the Attica Lyons Club.
Everyone who knew Mac will remember his quick wit and ready smile. He was always ready to tell a tall tale with such a convincing manner that only the twinkle in his eye or mischievous grin would give him away. His family always watches for "Falling Rock" and waits for the Oswegotchie when ever traveling down RT 3. He loved a good yarn especially over some ice cream and chocolate cake.
Hugh is survived by three children, Thomas H, McKernan and his wife Amber ,of Gabriels,
N.Y., John R. McKernan of Georgetown, and Susan M. Brooks and her husband Martin, of Duxbury, Vt.; seven grandchildren, Jason T. McKernan, Brooke A. Collier, Jami L. Clark, Scott D. Brooks, Erin M. Brooks, Sandra R. Brooks, and Kelly J. Maclver; seven great-grandchildren, Maria, Avery, Kylee, Madison, Jonas, Aidan, Evan, Jonas, Grace and Clay, and by a sister, Patricia Snyder of
Florida. He was predeceased by his wife Erma Knausdorf McKernan; his infant daughter, Kathleen Marie McKernan, and by three sisters.
A Memorial Mass will be held at The Church of the Assumption in Gabriels,
N.Y. on May 7, 2005 at 10 a.m.
