SURFSIDE BEACH -- Alma C. Pendleton, age 77, of Sweetwater Blvd., died Monday, April 4, 2005 at Hunterwoods Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Charlotte, N.C.
Mrs. Pendleton was born in Lilesville, N.C, a daughter of the late Henry Vernon and Emma Knotts Charles. She was predeceased by her husband J. Robert Pendleton.
Surviving are two sons, J. Robert Pendleton Jr. of Charlotte and Charles Pendleton of Alaska; two daughters Heather Ann Jenkins of Roanoke, Va. and Dawn Shomette of Charlotte; one sister, Sonia Ferguson of Surfside Beach and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday from Hillcrest Mausoleum with the Rev. Kirk Lawton officiating.

Haywood Deriaus Burr
GRESHAM -- Haywood Deriaus Burr, 66, of Gresham, passed away Wednesday morning, Mar. 23, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Burr was born June 13, 1938, a son of John Deriaus Burr and Estelle Lefler Burr. He was a native of Albemarle, N.C., and later moved to the Gresham area in 1984. Mr. Burr was a member of Soul's Harbor Ministry of Conway. He was formerly employed with Sky Way Lanes of Monroe, N.C. in the maintenance department. Mr. Burr was known as a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all.
Surviving him in addition to his wife, Brenda Burr, is his mother, Estelle Lefler Burr of Albemarle, N.C.; two sons, Jerry Deriaus Burr of Virginia Beach, Va., Jay Burr of Conway; two daughters, Donna Lynnette Burr of Coward, Anita Holt and her husband Jeff, of Conway, William "Bill" Burr and his wife Sandy, of Thomasville, N.C.; one sister, Linda Long of Albemarle, N.C.; three grandchildren, Cody and Kayla Burr, and MaKayla Grace Holt, all of Conway.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Mar. 25, 2005 at Soul's Harbor Ministry, Hwy. 378, Conway. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 26, 2005 at the Red Cross Baptist Church Cemetery in Red Cross, N.C.

Carolyn Jean Connelly Elvington
FAIR BLUFF, N.C. -- Carolyn Jean Connelly Elvington, of Fair Bluff, N.C., died Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2005 at the home of her daughter. She suffered from a long term disease of pulmonary fibrosis.
Mrs. Elvington was a lifelong homemaker and served as the Associate Director of Elvington Pharmacy. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a member of Fair Bluff Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Mar. 25, at Fair Bluff Baptist Church, with Dr. Ray Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Nichols.
Mrs. Elvington is survived by her husband, P.L. Elvington Jr.; three daughters, Mariam Elvington Konecny, Katherine Elvington Fabrizio, and Amber Elvington Moring; her grandchildren, Marinessa Carolyn Fabrizio, Robert Joseph Fabrizio III, Alexandra Grace Moring, and Miriam Grace Moring. She was predeceased by a grandson, Plan L. Konecny. Also surviving is a brother, Carrol Eugene Connelly and a sister, Geneive Connelly Starr, and her stepmother, Sarah Connelly.

CONWAY -- Mr. Arthur L. Moore, age 95, father of Mrs. Thillian "Peggy" Laney, of Hiland Avenue, died Tuesday morning, Mar. 22, 2005 at Conway Medical Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Thillian Laney; one adoptive daughter, Mildred Vereen; adoptive sons, Drs. James, Charles, and Marshall Sasser, Atty. Phillip Sasser; one grandson, Dr. Robert L. Laney Jr. of Tuskegee, Ala.; two granddaughters, Rita L. Stanley (Atty. Ronald) of Columbia, Terrie M. Laney of Conway, and four grandsons.
The family will receive friends at McKiever Funeral Home, Inc. of Conway on Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services for Mr. Moore will be held 12 noon Saturday, from the Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
