GEORGETOWN — Services with burial for Doris L. Washington , 72, widow of Willie Washington , will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Visitation is 6 tonight at Wild’s Funeral Home. Born to James and Gladys Livingston Wallace, she died Nov. 16, 2004. Surviving are children, Willie, Zelphia Washington , Gladys, Lecter Livingston, Teria Gamble.

NORTH AUGUSTA — A graveside service for Gladys C. Wright, 92, widow of George Wright Sr., is 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Rowland Funeral Home. Born in Glascock Co., Ga., she died Dec. 27, 2004. Surviving are daughter, Merle Dansby; grandchildren, Robert III, Barbara Dansby, Kathleen Davis, Elizabeth Doebler; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dr. Calvin, Alton Chalker.
John Waldrop
WEST COLUMBIA — Memorial services for John Gaylord Waldrop, 75, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004, in Southland Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Harvey Johnson, followed by entombment. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Waldrop, died Sunday, December 26, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late John Gaylord Sr., and Mary Nettie Davis Waldrop. Mr. Waldrop was a member of Springdale Masonic Lodge #412, Scottish Rites and Jamil Shrine Temple. He had retired from Eastman Kodak.
Surviving are daughters, Annette Goodyear, of Leesville, Beverly Davis of Columbia; sisters, Betty Waldrop, of W. Cola, Evelyn Engel, of Charleston; brother, David F. Waldrop, of W. Cola; grandchildren, Jessica Goodyear, Kimberly Meetze, Jennifer Meetze; great grandchildren, Jameson Tutherow, Timothy Meetze, and Aiyanna Meetze.
Mr. Waldrop was preceded in death by one brother, Furman H. Waldrop.
Benjamin Wilkes Jr.
COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Benjamin Boyden Wilkes Jr., 74, will be private. He died Sunday. South Carolina Cremation & Memorial Society is in charge.
Roy Dority
LAMAR — Services for Roy “Buck” Dority, 91, widower of Ruth Spires Dority, 2 p.m. Thursday at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home, burial: Elim UM Church Cemetery, Oates. Born in Darlington Co. to Richard and Lizzie Dority, he died Dec. 27, 2004. He was a farmer over 75 years and loved his cows. Surviving: daughters, Ruby Marshall, Shirley Nutter, Liz Huggins, Janie McClung; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Dale Waters
LEESVILLE — Services for Larry Dale “Pop” Waters, 56, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Mims officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Historic B-L Chapel. Mr. Waters died Saturday. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Welton Eugene Waters, Sr. and Lois Cockrell Waters. He was formerly employed with Farmer’s Livestock, Leesville, was a farmer and was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving are his siblings, Cynthia Baughman and Terry Waters, both of Batesburg, Michael Waters of TX, Marilyn Waters, Dorothy Mullins, Jean Frick, all of Leesville, Loris Yonce and Mary Kinard, both of Ridge Spring. He was predeceased by siblings, Welton E. Waters, Jr. and Linda G. Waters.
Marie Jenkins
TARBORO, N.C. — Marie Lybrand Jenkins, 94, died Monday.
Graveside service Wednesday, 2:30 p.m. in the Spann’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ward, SC.
Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, John Ira Jenkins. She was born in Aiken County, SC, to Andrew Robert and Lula Kirkland Lybrand.
Survivors: daughter, Doris Jenkins Rawls, Tarboro, NC; son, John R. Jenkins and wife Yantus, Tarboro, NC; granddaughters, Lisa Johnson and Mary Katherine Rawls, both of Rocky Mount, NC; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Josie Kneece, Monetta, SC.

Gus Jordon
DENMARK — Services for Gus Jordon, 90, U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, were held Dec. 28, 2004, with burial in The Veterans Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Carroll Mortuary, Denmark chapel, was in charge. Born in Denmark to Willis and Annie Smalls Jordon, he died December 24, 2004. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Surviving: son, Louis Jordon; daughter, Hattie Reese; six grandchildren.
Kurt Smith
LEESVILLE — Kurt D. Smith, 54, of Leesville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004, at Pleasant Pines Independent Baptist Church in Gaston. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
Mr. Smith was born in Columbia, a son of Margie Sharpe Drew and the late Albert E. Smith. He was a brick mason.
Survivors include a daughter: Toni Lynn Smith, of Red Bank; a son, Jason Drew, of Red Bank; his mother and stepfather, Margie and Jerry Wayne Drew, of Lexington; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Karl and Linda Smith, of West Columbia; and Kerry and Tonya Smith, of Leesville.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North.
Roosevelt Scott
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — Services for Roosevelt Scott, 82, of 23301 S. Woodland Park, will be held at East Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday, December 30, 2004.
Son of the late Lewis and Inez Scott, he was born in Richland County (SC), and died on December 24, 2004.
He was a 1940 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He earned a B.A. degree at Benedict College, and was a teacher at Howard High School, Georgetown, S.C. Later he moved to Cleveland, where he retired from the Department of Social Services. He was later named the “Man of the Year” by the Cleveland City Council.
Martin Funeral Home, Cleveland, is in charge. Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors are: his wife of fifty-two years, Victoria Graham Scott, of Shaker Heights, OH; four children; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Opal Epps
KINGSTREE — Mrs. Opal Brown Epps, 91, widow of A.L. Epps, Jr., died Monday, December 27, in a Kingstree hospital.
Mrs. Epps was born in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Walter B. and Rosa Burrows Brown. She was employed by Preacher’s Drug store for 32 years. Mrs. Epps was a lifetime member of Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher and choir member. She was a talented seamstress and was an extra in the movie “The Notebook.”
Surviving: 2 sons: Al (Brenda) Epps of Kingstree, Barney (Lucia) Epps of Atlanta, Ga., Grandson: Michael A. (Cindy) Epps, granddaughters: Mandi E. (Kelley) Kirby, Shawn E. (Craig) Wudi, Jennifer E. (Pete) Williams, Great grands: Drayton Epps, Crystal Epps, Grady Kirby, Hanna Kirby, Ashlyn Wudi, Braden Wudi, Step Grandchildren: Donna M. Mills and Angie M. Owens, Step great grands: Dustin Kirby and Mason Owens.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church, burial will be in the Church Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church.
