Harry E. Joyce, Jr.
SURFSIDE BEACH -- Harry E. Joyce, Jr., age 83 of Lone Oak Lane, died Saturday, Apr. 10, 2004 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Born September 27, 1910 in Newark, N.J., Mr. Joyce was the son of the late Gwen Sims Joyce and Harry E. Joyce, Sr. He graduated from Southside High School in Newark where he met and was married for 62 years to his high school sweetheart, Madeline. He entered the US Navy during WWII and was a machinist mate first class on the aircraft carrier "The Kassan Bay." He received a bachelor degree from Rutgers University in business administration. Mr. Joyce retired from NJ Bell Telephone Company after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Surfside United Methodist Church, VFW Post #10420, Moose Lodge #2351, the Newark Masonic Lodge, 21 years in the Elks, and Raccoon Run Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife, Madeline; son, James Richard Joyce and wife; Kathy; daughter, Nancy Carol Luts and husband; Jack, sister, Evelyn Ruppel and husband; Richard; grandson, John Thomas Lutz; and granddaughter, Diana Joy Lutz.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2004 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with burial following in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Waldemar Konczak
PAWLEYS ISLAND -- Waldemar Konczak, age 95 of The Traditions, died Friday, Apr. 9, 2004 at Prince George Nursing Center.
Mr. Konczak was born January 12, 1909 in Poland, a son of the late Edward and Karoline Klemm Konczak. He was a retired butcher. Mr. Konczak was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Mathilde; stepson, Rudolf Schwarz and his wife, Sharon of Pawleys Island; three granddaughters, Andrea Randall and her husband, Jeffrey, Petrisse DePew and her husband, Geoffrey, and Kristin Smith and her husband, Eric all of Mich.; one grandson, Rudolf Karl Schwarz of Pawleys Island; six great grandsons; and one brother, Edward Konczak of Michigan.
Memorial services will be private. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is serving the family.
Stan Konikiewicz
PAWLEYS ISLAND -- Stan Konikiewicz, 55, died Friday, Apr. 9, 2004 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 31, 1948 in Carteret, N.J., a son of the late Stan and Stella Deloura Konikovich. Mr. Konikiewicz was a volunteer at Pawleys Fish Market, previous owner of The Oar House. Mr. Konikiewicz was previously employed by Captain Sandy's Tours in Georgetown and by Moore Business Forms. He was a member of the Quakertown Moose Lodge and a 1966 graduate of Quakertown High School, both in Pennsylvania.
Survivors include his wife, Susan W. Konikiewicz; two daughters, Angela Player and her husband, Daniel and Kelley Gray and her husband, John; three sons, Sean Rayne, Ben Sobetsky and his wife, Debbie, and Mike Sobetsky and his wife, Nicole; seven grandchildren, Justin Player, Brandon Player, Joshua Player, Chloe Sobetsky, Alexa Sobetsky, Holly Rayne, and Cassie Rayne; mother-in-law; Ellen Walbert; a host of friends and family; and his animals.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. A benefit will be 11 a.m. until? Saturday, Apr. 17, at Easy Street Bar & Grill, 69 South Causeway Road, Pawleys Island.

LITTLE RIVER -- Dorothy Jane Vereen Lewis, age 63, died Wednesday, Apr. 7, 2004.
Surviving are two sons, Wallace James Lewis and Glenn Eric Lewis; four daughters, Chandria Eileen Cox, Tema Regina Hill, Lisa Lendell Green, and Crystal Rosetta Johnson; three sisters, Hatttie Goff, Crystal D. Williams, and Clara R. Wilson; one half-sister, Dolly Gore; one half-brother, Curley Vereen; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul AME Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Latimer's Funeral Home.
James Garrett Sullivan
SAN ANTONIO, TX -- James Garrett Sullivan, 76, passed away Thursday, Apr. 1, 2004.
He was born March 15, 1928 in Somers Point, N.J., graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954, and lived most of his life in Kinnelon, N.J., working as Treasurer/Comptroller for the Thermal American Fused Quartz Company. In 1988, after 34 years of service, he retired to Carolina Shores, N.C., where he was recognized as an out-standing golfer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Garrett and wife, Susan and Shawn and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Joshua, Corene, Andrew, Jay, Katie, and Ryan; sister, Ellen Hyatt and brother-in-law, George; sister-in-law, Grace; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 21 at Carolina Shores POA Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Diabetes or Cancer Society.
