NAKINA, N.C. -- Norman Cordis Benton, 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, in Columbus County Hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, in the Inman Chapel with interment in the Gore Cemetery in Nakina. Inman Funeral Home, Inc. of Tabor City, N.C. is serving the family.
Howard E. Brecht
CONWAY -- Howard E. Brecht, 90, of Lee's Landing Circle, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Conway Medical Center.
Mr. Brecht was born in Darian, N.Y., a son of the late August and Caroline Brecht.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Holt Brecht of Conway; two step-sons, Michael D. Parks and his wife, Ann and Robert W. Parks, all of Conway; three step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Johnson officiating.
William H. 'Buck'
Foust Jr.
MYRTLE BEACH -- William H. "Buck" Foust, Jr., 58, of Cypress Park, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at home.
Born in Gastonia, he was a son of Pearl and the late William H. Foust, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Robichaux Foust, three children, Stanley Foust, Lyann Stackley and Gina Huggins, all of the Myrtle Beach area; four sisters and two brothers all of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Zach, Cory, Mattie, Marisa.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10th, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach. Rev. Mike Welch will officiate. Visitation, at the funeral home, will follow the service.

Viola E. Grove
GARDEN CITY -- Viola E. Grove, 85, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, after a short illness.
She was born May 19, 1918. She lived in Myrtle Beach area since 1981 and was preceded in death by her loving husband, James N. Grove.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Thomas of New Jersey, Judith Carleton of Wisconsin, and Barbara Gray of Garden City, S.C.; two granddaughters; two grandsons; and three great grandsons.
Her body was donated to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Contributions in her name to the Heart Association would be greatly appreciated.
Robert Lee 'Bobby'
Hennecy Sr.
MARION -- Robert Lee 'Bobby' Hennecy Sr., 64, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Hennecy was born in Marion, a son of the late Horace Wilson "Bud" Hennecy and Ruby Lee Lewis Hennecy. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church as well as Clinton Lodge #60. Mr. Hennecy attended Clemson University and graduated from the Carolina College of Commerce in Florence, S.C. Mr. Hennecy served on the Marion Booster Club and coached Dixie Youth Baseball. He helped with Boy Scouts Troops 708 and 745. Mr. Hennecy served as a School Board Trustee for Marion School District One for eight years and has served on the Marion County Board of Education for the last 18 years. He worked for Heritage Sportswear for 40 years.
Mr. Hennecy is survived by his wife, Ritta Croft Hennecy of the home; two sons, Robert L. "Chip" Hennecy Jr. and his wife, Allyson Lett Hennecy of Marion, and Brian Croft Hennecy of Marion; a brother, William "Billy" Scott Hennecy and his wife, Judy of Myrtle Beach; a grandson, Robert Logan Hennecy of Marion; and a nephew, Chris Hennecy of Myrtle Beach.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10th, at Marion Baptist Church, with burial following in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Richardson Funeral Home of Marion.

Allen G. Johnston
OCEAN ISLE, N.C. -- Allen Garfield Johnston, 30, of 4th Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004.
Mr. Johnston was born on Jan. 22, 1973, in Whiteville, N.C. He was a son of Shelba Garfield Johnston and Mary Lea Vereen Johnston. He was a devoted father of Tyrus Garfield Johnston, 6, and Syrus Garfield Johnston, 2, both of Ocean Isle.
In addition to be a beloved son to his parents and children, he was dearest brothers to Ronsal Johnston and his fiance, Beverly Carozza, Shallotte, N.C., Johnny and Tammy Johnston, Supply, N.C.; and a dearest sister to Shellie Newlon Johnson, Maryland.
Mr. Johnston was a beloved uncle to Joy Lea Johnston, Shallotte, N.C., Annie Johnston, Supply, N.C., Dillon Johnston, Supply, N.C., Tiffany Johnston, Supply, N.C., and Jeremiah Shama Johnston, Supply, N.C.; Kevin Newlon, Maryland and Jake Newlon, Maryland; and a cousin to Dennis William Harpster, Ash, N.C.; among additional cousins and friend to all.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9th, in the New Covenant Church by Pastor Tom Bias.
Edith A. 'Edie' Kastner
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- Edith A. "Edie" Kastner, 84, formerly of Cumberland, Md., passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the home of her daughter in North Myrtle Beach. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, Md., on Friday at 8:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m., with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Nancy L. Keenan
PAWLEYS ISLAND -- Nancy Louise Keenan, 74, died Wednesday Jan. 7, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 2, 1929 in Rochester, New York, a daughter of the late Ralph and Eleanor Albee Bircher. Nancy received an Associate Degree from Anne Arundel Community College. While residing in Maryland, Nancy owned Travel Agents International, Severna Park, Md. She was an avid golfer and member of Litchfield Country Club, Ladies Golf Association. Nancy was also an avid life long bowler. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Shelden J. Keenan; three sons, Lawrence Michael Held, Ronald Albert Held, and Richard Scott Held; sisters; Marcia Mario and her husband, Anthony, Joan Mason and her husband, Lynn; one step daughter, Maura K. Christensen and her husband, John; two stepsons, Shaun M. Keenan and Christopher P. Keenan; granddaughter, Jennifer Held; grandson, Benjamin Held; step grandchildren, Connor Keenan, Antonio Keenan, Mary Keenan, Daniel Christensen, Colleen Christensen, and Liam Christensen.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 12 noon Saturday at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with inurnment to follow at Precious Blood Catholic Church Columbarium. Litchfield Pawleys Funeral Home and Cremation Service is serving the family.
