CONWAY -- Joe Gibson Cooke, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Commander Nursing Center in Florence.
He was born in Horry County, a son of the late James Ben and Mary James Cooke.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Reynolds Cooke of Florence; two daughters, Peggy Player of Florence and Shirley Broach of Effingham; a son, Joe Daniel Cooke of Galivants Ferry; a brother, James Ben "J.B." Cooke of Galivants Ferry; two sisters, Mildred Vaught of Whiteville, N.C., and Macie Cooke Page of Florence; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Will Harper will officiate.

GREEN SEA -- James E. Ham, 60, of Floyd Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Conway Medical Center.

James E. Hammond
SURFSIDE BEACH -- James Edwin Hammond, 70, of Caropines, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at home.
He was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Greenville, a son of the late Delmer and Lavada Tullis Hammond.
He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict. He was owner of Ed Hammond State Farm Agency in Charlotte, N.C., for 31 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hammond; three daughters, Gloria Hicks of Los Angeles, Sandra Hunter of Fort Mill and Rhonda Hammond of Charlotte; a stepson, Ray W. Dudley of Naples, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Adams and Tracy Dudley, both of Surfside Beach; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
June Hayden
MYRTLE BEACH -- June Hayden, 87, formerly of Evansville, Ind., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003.
She was a 1933 graduate of Reitz High School in Evansville.
She was predeceased by her husband, George T. Hayden, on March 16, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Bryan Hayden of Terre Haute, Ind.; and a daughter, Karen Dover of Myrtle Beach.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ziemer Funeral Home, east chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville.

Burton J. 'B.J.' Jensen
HOUMA, La. -- Burton James "B.J." Jensen, 83, a retired central office foreman for the Bell Telephone System, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at home.
He was born in Greeley County, Neb., and had lived in Houma for the past 47 years.
He was employed by the Bell System for 32 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma. He was a member of the St. Bernadette Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and was a past president of the Bayou Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kampen Jensen; three sons, James B. Jensen of Little River, Thomas J. Jensen of Atlanta and David J. Jensen of Houma; a daughter, Peggy Jensen Chauvin of Houma; three brothers, Raymond C. Jensen of Gretna, Marvin L. Jensen of Huntsville, Ala., and Robert B. Jensen of Elkhorn, Neb.; a sister, Jane Jensen Kath of Denver; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was Jan. 22 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 409 Funderburk Ave. in Houma.

CONWAY -- August Robert Meyer, 83, formerly of the Live Oak community, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Conway Nursing Center.
He was born June 14, 1919, in Oak Park, Ill., a son of the late August and Florence Ellsworth Meyer.
He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He moved to the area in 1983 from Lexington. He was a member of Belin United Methodist Church and was a member of the VFW in Murrells Inlet.
He was the widower of Lillian Meyer.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Stossofph of Covina,
Calif.; a son, August William Meyer of Bangkok, Thailand; and a friend, Betty Strait.
Inurnment will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lexington.
