LORIS -- James Gore, 71, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Conway Hospital after an illness.

CONWAY -- Barbara E. Grate, 27, of Huckabee Heights, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at home.
Visitation will be at 3224 Lake Drive in Loris.

Mae C. Hardee
CONWAY -- Mae C. Hardee, 96, widow of Willie Oliver Hardee, of the Good Hope community, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003.
She was born in Conway, a daughter of the late Austin and Tola Todd Chestnut and was raised by her grandparents.
She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be missed by everyone.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Bath Causey; four sons, Elbert Causey, George Hardee, H.B. Hardee and Oliver Hardee Jr.; and a daughter, Gen Lilly.
Survivors include two sons, John Vernon Causey and his wife, Lois, and Carl Causey and his wife, Juanita, all of Conway; six daughters, Elise Booth, Myrtle Dorman, Hazel Singleton and her husband, Alvin, Jo Stevens and her husband, Paul, Della Buddin and her husband, Bill, all of Conway and Sylvia Booth and her husband, Buster, of Loris; two daughters-in-law, Arlene Hardee of Laurinburg, N.C., and Allene Hardee of Florence; two sisters, Geneva Brown of Longs and Pauline Prince of Columbia; 34 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Henry Yarborough and the Rev. Van Loomis will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Barbara Hurilla
GEORGETOWN -- Barbara M. Orlik Hurilla, 48, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Coaldale in Schuylkill County, Pa., on July 31, 1954, a daughter of Nellie Matusic Orlik and the late John Orlik. She grew up in Manville, N.J. After her marriage Oct. 29, 1974, she moved to Upper Black Eddy, Pa., before moving to Georgetown in 1990. She was office manager for Wedgefield Plantation and a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. She was also a former vice president of commercial lending at Prestige State Bank in Flemington, N.J.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of Manville, N.J., include her husband, Harry E. Hurilla Jr., of Georgetown; three brothers, Paul Orlik of St. Augustine, Fla., and Steve Orlik and Daniel Orlik, both of Manville, N.J.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Vanda Hurilla of Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Mary Bertothy of Dallas,
Texas, Carol Bartocci of Seaford, Del., and Linda Hajdamacha of Fort Myers; two brothers-in-law, Steve Hurilla of Fort Myers and John Hurilla of Manville, N.J.; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. The Rev. Ronald J. Farrell will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Mayer Funeral Home, Georgetown chapel.
Julia P. Macklen
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Julia P. Macklen, 100, formerly of Myrtle Beach, died Jan. 23, 2003, in Raleigh.
She was born Aug. 4, 1902, in Smithville, Ga., a daughter of Elizabeth Gatewood and Robert Spencer Pryor.
In 1924, she graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., then taught French and English until her marriage to H. Lloyd Macklen. In 1935, Julia and Lloyd moved to Myrtle Beach with their children, where she resided until she moved to Raleigh in 1998.
She was reared as a Methodist. In Myrtle Beach, she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Membership and attendance to her Sunday school class, circle and church were important to her. She was a member of the Myrtle Beach Garden Club and the Archibald Rutledge Book Club.
She owned and managed businesses in Myrtle Beach with her husband: Lloyd's Grocery, Travelers Motel and Lloyd's Restaurant. She loved and appreciated her large extended family and friends. She was known for her gardening skills and love of flowers. She was a talented floral arranger and an exceptional cook.
She was predeceased by her husband, H. Lloyd Macklen.
Survivors include her brother, J. Gatewood Pryor of Atlanta; sons, Henry L. Macklen Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert P. Macklen of Raleigh; daughters, Lynette Yuill of Myrtle Beach, Geraldine Smoak of Columbia and Sylvia Robinson of San Juan, Puerto Rico; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, 901 N. Kings Highway. The family will receive relatives and friends after the service.

Peter J. Richardson
MYRTLE BEACH -- Peter John Richardson, 80, formerly of Jensens, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Swindon Wilshire, England, a son of the late John and Mary Shaw Richardson.
He was a graduate of Margate College and worked as a travel agent. He was a member of The Church of England and SKAL. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Gow.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Richardson; three daughters, Carolynn Richardson of Charlotte, N.C., Amanda Richardson of Charlotte, N.C., and Sarah Richardson of Ashburn, Va.; two stepdaughters, Carol Duhamel of
Florida and Nancy Craig of Colorado; and four grandchildren, Donald, Shawn, Beth and Andrew.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Goldfinch Funeral Home, beach chapel.

Thelma R. Ritchie
MYRTLE BEACH -- Thelma Rikard Ritchie, 92, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 15, 1910, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., a daughter of the late Henry S. and Myrtle Smith Rikard.
She was a retired schoolteacher and a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Lakes International Country Club and Myrtlewood Golf Club.
Survivors include her husband, Fred G. Ritchie; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Little Rock, Ark.
