Cynthia S. Gause
LORIS — Cynthia Stevens Gause, 47, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
She was born June 4, 1955, in Conway, a daughter of Shelvie Jean Stevens of Loris, and the late Paul Stanley Stevens. She was the widow of Rex Warren Gause.
She was a former bank teller with the Conway National Bank and a member of Cane Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a son, Steven N. Gause of Loris; a daughter, Shea Gause Johnson, and her husband, Ashley, of Galivants Ferry; a brother, Dwight Stevens, and his wife, Toni, of Loris; a granddaughter, Brentlie Rhea Johnson; and two nephews, Blake and Matt Stevens.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hardwick Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cane Branch Baptist Church. Entombment will be at Twin City Mausoleum. The Rev. Alvin Jackson and the Rev. Thomas Shelley will officiate.

Lawrence A. Gothberg
LONGS — Lawrence A. Gothberg, 82, of Longs, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Magnolias Assisted Living.
He was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Chicago, a son of the late Peter and Edna Ellison Gothberg.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Gothberg, and his wife, Cheryl, of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Helen Carlson of Bothell, Wash.; and a brother, Ken Gothberg and his wife, Faye, of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Marie Gothberg.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lee Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lebron Crisp will officiate.

Willie L. Grier
GEORGETOWN — Willie Lee Grier, 63, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002.

Diane T. Holmes
LONGS — Diane Todd Holmes, 48, wife of W.L. Holmes of S.C. 90, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at home after an illness.
She was born in Conway, a daughter of the late James W. and Lunette Johnson Todd. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Jamie W. Holmes of Longs; a daughter, Amy A. Holmes of Longs; four brothers, Ralph Todd, Ford Todd, Phillip Todd and Randy Todd, all of Aynor; a sister, Shirley Ann Rabon of Nichols.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Salem Baptist Church. The Rev. Wayne Revisky, the Rev. Lamar Boulware and the Rev. Dennis Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel.

GARDEN CITY BEACH — Donald Bonine Jaynes, 81, of North Waccamaw Drive, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at Prince George Health Care Center.

William 'Billy' Phelps
WILMINGTON, N.C. — William Luther "Billy" Phelps, 56, of Winnabow, N.C.; Roseboro, N.C.; Wilmington, N.C.; and Little River, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center after a long battle with cancer.
He was born June 13, 1946, a son of the late Adrian V. Phelps and Ethel D. Phelps of Winnabow.
His love for the automotive industry was fueled by family involvement in Roseboro Ford. Later, as a young adult, he worked with Willetts Ford in Bolivia, N.C. In 1971, he purchased Warsaw Ford, renamed it Phelps Ford, and entered his lifelong dream of franchise ownership with Ford Motor Co. He gradually entered the salvage business and in 1987 established Billy Phelps Inc. of Wilmington, where he continued to work until health problems limited his abilities.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Winnabow.
His smile and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Survivors include his three children, Patrice Phelps Smith, and her husband, Allen, Chad Phelps and his wife, Heather, and his youngest daughter, Jessica Phelps; two grandchildren, Dillon and Zachary Smith; his loving sister, Retta Phelps Kennedy, and her husband, Russell; and many friends and business acquaintances.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the home of his sister, Retta, 420 Green Hill Road, Winnabow.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steve Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Josephine M. Rote
MYRTLE BEACH — Josephine Michael Rote, 78, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include two sons, Larry and his wife, Becky, and Bradley and his wife, Fran; two daughters, Becky and Terri, and her husband, John; a stepsister, Bea; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Friday at Domico's Funeral Home in Fairmont, W.Va.
