SOCASTEE — Johnie Cox, 94, of Peachtree Road, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Loris Extended Care Facility after an illness.
He was born in Conway, a son of the late John William and Callie Jordan Cox. He was a member of the Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church in Cherry Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille H. Cox of Socastee; a son, Lloyd Cox and his wife, Marletta, of Socastee; a grandson, Rusty Cox of Conway; two great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; a sister, Beulah Prince of Florence; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel.

MURRELLS INLET — Eloise O. Graham, 82, formerly of Rochester,
N.Y., died peacefully Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Garden Manor Assisted Living after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Auburn,
N.Y., a daughter of the late Leland L. and Ida Thomas Odell. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Robert V. Graham; a daughter, Jacqueline Ann Farrell; a twin sister, Eleanor Palmer; and a brother, Lee E. Odell.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn J. Romyn and her husband, Paul, of Pawleys Island; grandchildren, Caroline Farrell Stephen and her husband, Edward, of Atlanta, Jonathan V. Farrell of
New York City, Nora Worsech and her husband, Randy, of Kirkland, Wash., Rebecca Warner and her husband, Kenneth of Sammamish, Wash., Rachel Raemore and her husband, Michael, of Charlotte, N.C., and Peter F. Romijn of Portland; 11 beautiful great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday in Rochester,
N.Y., with burial to follow in White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford,
N.Y.

MULLINS — Clara Wright Smith died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in Orangeburg County from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Mattie Tanner
JOHNSONVILLE — Mattie Ruth Johnson Tanner, 74, widow of Willie Joe Tanner, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in a Florence hospital.
She was born in Lake City, a daughter of the late Erwin Oswald Johnson and Pearl Jordan Johnson.
She was employed by Tanners Nursery, a member of First Baptist Church and was a graduate of Indiantown Schools.
Survivors include four sons, Ray Tanner of Conway, Earl Tanner, Danny Joe Tanner and Steve Tanner, all of Johnsonville; a sister, Doris Ellen Hicks of Florence; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Johnsonville First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in Lake Chapel Cemetery.

V.J. Underwood Jr.
SELMA, N.C. — Vonza Jackson Underwood Jr., 76, of 3836 Old Beulah Road, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002.
He was a native of Johnson County, N.C., a son of the late Vonza and Minnie Beasley Underwood. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He worked for Carolina Timber Co. of Smithfield, N.C., for about 15 years and for the N.C. Forestry Service of New Bern for 14 years. He took medical retirement in 1990 and moved back to Johnston County in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Allen Underwood; sons, Roney J. Underwood and his wife, Marilyn, of New Bern, N.C., and David L. Underwood and his wife, Dianne, of Smithfield; a daughter, Kathy Hilburn and her husband, Roger, of Loris; sisters, Merle Thornton of Four Oaks, N.C., Doris Trabant of Tierra Verda, Fla., Marcie Vail of Cape Coral, Fla., and Jackie Pittman of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park.
