James Rogers Jr.
CONWAY — James Rogers Jr., 78, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Conway Hospital after an illness.
He was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Conway, a son of the late James Rogers Sr. and Carrie Wilson Rogers.
He attended Horry County Public Schools and served in the Army. He was a member of Bethel AME Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elvira Walker Rogers; two daughters, Alma Jeanne Bentley of Conway and Vira Moralita Riley of New Britain, Conn.; a son, James Reginald Rogers of Fort Mill; two sisters, Daisy Rogers McDuffie of Rock Hill and Helen Smalls of Conway; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Bethel AME Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Latimer's Funeral Home is in charge.
Virginia S. Bessant
CONWAY — Virginia S. Bessant, 66, of the Oakey Swamp community, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at home.
Arrangements will be announced by Palmetto Funeral Home.
Peter E. Bock Sr.
MYRTLE BEACH — Peter E. Bock Sr., 77, formerly of North Bergen, N.J., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nee Ragno, and a son, Peter E. Bock Jr.
The funeral was in New Jersey.
A memorial service in Myrtle Beach will be announced.

Wylma Covington
MOUNT PLEASANT — Wylma Gene Clayton Covington, 69, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at a local nursing home.
She was born in Ridgeville, a daughter of Middleton S. and Katherine G. Clayton.
She was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church. She retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard.
Survivors include two daughters, W. Melinda Covington and Paula G. Bunce, both of Charleston; two sons, Benjamin H. Covington Jr. of Columbia and Dr. M. Samuel C. Covington of Charleston; five sisters, Margaret Lilienthal of Mount Pleasant, Rebecca K. Clayton of Givhans, Katherine Smith of Charleston, Mildred Roush of Savannah, Ga. and Jennie Goodman of Charleston; and a brother, James M. Clayton of Givhans.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at Christ Our King Catholic Church. Prayers of final commendation and farewell will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy S. Evans
MYRTLE BEACH — Dorothy S. Evans, 100, widow of Charles F. Evans, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Myrtle Beach Manor.

Pearl Gamble
GEORGETOWN — Pearl Gamble, 64, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002.
Survivors include three sisters, Pauline Mosley, Cleo Morris and Codell Moore; and three brothers, Leroy Gamble, Alex Gamble and John Gamble.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Virginia N. Holt
CONWAY — Virginia Nell Holt, 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Conway Hospital after an illness.
She was born in Conway, a daughter of the late Coy A. and Lee Ward Holt.
She was a former member of East Conway Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include two sons, Hoyt Terry Chestnut and Franklin Olin Johnson, both of Conway; a daughter, Jackie Nell Ward of Greenville, Ga.; a brother, Raymond Coy Holt of Conway; two sisters, Ruby Holt of Conway and Bonnie Fay Holt Hewitt of Myrtle Beach; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at East Conway Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Jimmy T. Hewitt will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

PAWLEYS ISLAND — Moses Hunt, 71, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Hunt; two sons, Eric K. Hunt and Karl R. Hunt; two daughters, Jeanette Point and Cynthia Pettis; three stepsons, Glenn Johnson, Eric Johnson and Wilbert Johnson; two stepdaughters, Carol Ferguson and Robin Johnson-Rouse; a brother; a sister; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6 tonight at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
The funeral will be will be at noon Saturday at the church.
