TABOR CITY, N.C. — Helen Long died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Loris Community Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Westside Funeral Home in Tabor City.
Maryland E. Miller
LONGS — Maryland E. Miller, 62, of Jacksonville, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at New Hanover County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 3, 1940, in Galivants Ferry, a daughter of the late James Alton and Ruby Huggins Elvis.
She was a graduate of Aynor High School and attended Coastal Carolina College in 1958. She was a certified dental assistant and spent 15 years in Dover, Del.
Survivors include her son, Michael Meade Miller; a daughter, Michelle Lewis and her husband, Chad; grandchildren, Nicole Elpuz Miller and Matthew Meade Miller, both of Jacksonville, and Maryland "Lainey" Lewis and Jarrett Michael Lewis, both of Wampee; and a nephew, James "Trip" Alton Elvis III of Johnsonville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Meade Miller; and her brother, James Alton Elvis Jr.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at Lee Funeral Home in Little River. Pastor Lebron Crisp will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Coastal Carolina University in her name.
Kenneth W. Parks
LONGS — Kenneth W. Parks, 61, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Loris Community Hospital after an illness.
He was born Sept. 17, 1941, in Rhonda, N.C., he was a son of the late Noah and Ila Anthony Parks. He was an Army veteran who served during Vietnam. He was a member of Grand Strand Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae McCann Parks; a daughter, Lori Sloan and her husband, John, of Myrtle Beach; a son, Dale Parks and his wife, Shela, of Edenton, N.C.; a brother, Grover Parks of Kernersville, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Kristen and Brittany Sloan, both of Myrtle Beach.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory in Myrtle Beach. Burial will be in Ocean Woods Cemetery.
Dorothy J. Bryant
MARION — Dorothy J. Bryant, 81, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002.
Survivors include a son, J.G. Bryant Jr.; a daughter, Sybil Gibson Montrose; three sisters, Beatrice, Eloise and Shelby; two brothers, Lafon and Cline; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Union Baptist Church.

CONWAY — Marcus Antonio Fairwell, 18, son of Evelyn Fairwell Jr. and Jacqua Lena Fairwell, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002.
Visitation will be at the home of his uncle, Harold Fairwell, 4955 Enoch Road in Conway.

CAROLINA SHORES, N.C. — Roy E. Hope Jr., 83, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Brunswick Community Hospital.

LORIS — Joe Nathan Johnson, 42, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 after an illness.

Thelma J. Martin
MULLINS — Thelma Jones Martin, 95, widow of Archie Lee Martin, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.
She was born June 8, 1907, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Duncan and Mary Elizabeth Sawyer Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert Steve Martin of Mullins; two daughters, Elizabeth Burroughs of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Gladys Ann Morin of Louisa, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Cox-Collins Funeral Home in Mullins.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. William C. Jacobs and the Rev. Jerry L. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Shirley Poston
MYRTLE BEACH — Shirley Jean Collins Poston, 62, of Flagstone Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at home.
She was born in Myrtle Beach, a daughter of the late Benjamin Grier and Nita Mae Owens Collins.
Survivors include a son, Richard Poston of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Cherry Poston of Myrtle Beach; two stepsons, Ody Poston of Raleigh, N.C., and Joey Poston of Savannah, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Kathy Stephens of Talladega, Ala.; six stepgrandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers.
Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel, is in charge.
Agnes `Dolly' Sargent
GARDEN CITY BEACH — Agnes "Dolly" Sargent, 69, of Jensens, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Francis X. and Agnes H. DeYong Ducharme. She was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. as a customer service representative with 20 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, Claude "Skip" Sargent; two sons, Wayne Sargent of Kennebunkport,
Maine, and Kenneth Sargent of Saco,
Maine; two daughters, Carol Testa of Hennica,
N.H., and Lorraine Sargent of Apopka, Fla.; five grandchildren; a sister, Paula Mosher of Billerica, Mass.; a brother, Francis Ducharme of Citrus Hills, Fla.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, beach chapel.
