Pauline J. Ardis
PINEWOOD – Pauline Johns Ardis, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Screven, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Malachi Johns and Ida Denison Johns.
She was formerly married to Roddie Ardis.
Mrs. Ardis was a member of Pinewood Methodist Church and was retired from Crosswell Children’ Home and Epworth Children’s Home.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn (Barbara) Ardis of Pinewood and Don (Becky) Ardis of Manning; two daughters, Nadeen Geddings and Lenora Tavares, both of Pinewood; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick Broomall officiating.
Burial followed in the Pinewood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Joseph Johnson Jr.
Joseph “Joe” Johnson Jr., 66, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at McNair Nursing Center, Lake City.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of Gretha Cockfield Johnson of Sumter and the late Joe Johnson Sr.
Survivors include three brothers, Henry Johnson of Turbeville, Abraham Johnson of Sumter and Van Johnson of
New Jersey; and one sister, Susie Mae Brown of Sumter.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at L.M. Green Memorial Chapel in Lake City, with Brother Edward Ross Sr. officiating.
Burial was in Burgess Evergreen Memorial Park, New Zion.

Allard Pugh
ATLANTA – Allard “Allen” Pugh, widower of Lucinda B. Pugh, died Feb. 11, 2006, in Atlanta.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Ben and Clara Pugh.
Survivors include his children, Vernell Pugh Sr. of Silver, Mary Montgomery of Memphis, Tenn., Barbara Elliott of Sumter, Patricia Bennett and Wade Pugh, both of Atlanta, and LaTasha Pugh of Brooklyn,
N.Y.; two sisters, Ruth Benjamin of Miami, Fla., and Clara Kennebruew of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Emmanuel Pugh and Johnny C. Pugh, both of Sumter; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two children, Allen Pugh Jr. and Veronica Butler; and three brothers, Bennie C. Pugh, Horace Pugh and Jake Richardson.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in the parlor of Job’s Mortuary Inc. in Sumter.

Naomi Adams
SUMMERVILLE — Naomi “Cutie” Adams, 83, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Summerville Medical Center.
The daughter of the late Matt and Laura Richardson, she was born in Clarendon County, on Nov. 21, 1921. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, she joined Antioch Union Methodist Episcopal Church. She was married to the late Simel Adams and from this union nine children were born.

N.Y., Ernest (Thomasina) Adams of Rimini and Anthony (Alphea) Adams of Columbia; four daughters, Rovenia (Joe) Adams of Bronx, Doretha (Richard) Tate of Summerville, Pearlie (Jim) Bostic of Yonkers,
N.Y., and Joann Howell of Columbia; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Deloris) Richardson of Rimini; four sisters, Ruth Chaney of Rimini, Flossie Mack of Buffalo,
N.Y., Josephine Robinson of
Florida and Maude Dickerson of Bronx; two sisters-in-law, Susan Richardson and Deloris Richardson, both of Rimini; one brother-in-law, Mose Dickerson of Bronx.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Antioch Union Methodist Episcopal Church in Rimini with the Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Rosa Lee W. Carolina
MAYESVILLE — Rosa Lee White Carolina, 89, widow of Jerry Carolina Sr., died Feb. 11, 2005, at her residence.
Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Mayesville, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Epsie Williams White. Mrs. Carolina attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she began her spiritual journey at Galilee Baptist Church, Mayesville, where she served as past president of the senior choir, missionary and hospitality ministries and founder/past president of the mothers club.
Survivors include six daughters, Azalee Lesane of Glendale, Md., Annie Mae (David) Luckey of Bronx,
N.Y., Katherina Carolina of Baltimore, Vernice (O’Neal) Lesane of Mayesville, Rovena C. Rice of Decatur, Ga., and Kathy (Daniel) Grate of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three sons, Jerry (Joann) Carolina of Roselle, N.J., Robert (Barbara) Carolina of Baltimore and Jonathan (LaRae) Lesane Jr. of Randallstown, Md.; one sister, Lucille Johnson of Alcolu; three brothers, Deacon Issac (Thomasina) White Sr. of Sumter, Deacon Clifton (Martha) White of Philadelphia, and Alexander White Sr. of Mayesville; three adopted daughters, Deaconess Corine Hampton and Rosetta (George) Mayo, both of Sumter, and Deaconess Freddie Hassell of Bronx; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Jonathan Lesane Sr. and James A. Rice.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Myers Jr., pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. David Luckey Sr., Minister Tiawana Mayo and Elder David Luckey Jr.
Burial followed in White Cemetery.

Carrie Lee M. Johnson
Carrie Lee McBride Johnson, the daughter of the late Alex McBride and Mary Lawson McBride, was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Summerton. She departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at her home after an illness.
She was united in matrimony to the late Robert Lee Johnson on May 14, 1944. She was educated in the public schools of
South Carolina. Carrie Lee and her family moved to
New York in 1955. Mrs. Johnson was a strong and beautiful woman. She was admired and deeply loved by all she came in contact with. She was employed by the Board of Education for
New York for 36 years.
Loving and fond memories will be cherished by nine children, Marion Jeanette Beatty of Queens,

Local services for Mrs. Johnson were held on. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Revival Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Sumter, with Elder Richard McGowan officiating.

David Collins
David Collins, 62, husband of Sue McCray Collins, died Feb. 24, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
The son of the late Carolyn White Collins, he was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Gable.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County where he attended Walker-Gamble High School. At an early age he attended Friendship Presbyterian Church. He migrated to Philadelphia in 1958 where he joined Greater St. Thomas Church, serving faithfully as an usher. After moving back to Sumter in 1991, he joined Melina Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, usher and a member of the men’s council. He worked with Premier Medical Co. for thirty years in Philadelphia.
Survivors include his wife, Sue M. Collins of the home; one son, Torrey McCray of Sumter; two daughters, Jacqueline Collins and Tajuanna Harris, both of Philadelphia; four brothers, Daniel Collins, Morris Smith, Willie James (Ernestine) Smith and Ulysse (Myrtle) Smith; eight sisters, Gladys (Eddie) Cooper, Margaret (Nathaniel) Rose, Annabel (Foster) Wheeler, Ruth Lowery, Julia Weaver, Evelyn Collins, Sarah Hampton and Luc Mac Sanchez and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, W.J. Jerome and John Collins.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Melina Presbyterian Church in Sardenia. The Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Herman D. Floyd
Herman David Floyd, age 70, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after an illness.
Mr. Floyd was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Donnie T. Floyd and Geneva Conyers Floyd. He was a retired welder with the B.L. Montague Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Floyd; four brothers, Hubert Floyd, Perlon Floyd, Lonnie Floyd and Doris Floyd; and two sisters, Vera Parker and Laudena Floyd.
He is survived by his son, Herman David (Courtney) Floyd Jr. of Turbeville; a sister, Wilma Parker of Sumter; and five grandchildren, Brandi Floyd, Hannah Pappas, D.J. Pappas, Haley Floyd and McKenzie Floyd.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 22, 2005 in the Chapel of Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
Burial followed in the New Piney Grove Church Cemetery, Lake City.

Elvin Mims
Elvin Mims, age 60, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Willie Delbert Mims and Ella Lou Atkinson Mims. Mr. Mims was a painter.
Mr. Mims was preceded in death by a sister, Leila Mae McCook; and three brothers, C.L. Mims, Archie Mims and Melton Mims.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Elaine Mims of Turbeville; two sons, Michael Legrand Mims of Lake City and Billy Ray Mims of Cleveland, Tenn.; one sister, Louise Mims of Olanta; two brothers, Allen Mims of Turbeville and W.D. Mims of Quincy, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in Pine Dale Cemetery.

Warren Singleton
Warren Singleton, the husband of Mrs. Mary Ann Porter Singleton, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
He born Oct. 8, 1960, in Clarendon County, the son of Mrs. Mamie Singleton and the late David Singleton, Sr.
Educated in the public schools of Sumter County, he was a 1978 graduate of Mayewood High School and worked at Carolina Furniture for 21 years and was presently employed at Martin Color Fi.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife Mrs. Mary Ann Porter Singleton of the home, his mother Mrs. Mamie Singleton of Sumter; a stepdaughter Melinda Porter of Sumter; five brothers, David Singleton, Jr., Harry (Jennifer) Singleton, Terry Green, Eric Simon, all of Sumter, and Greg Singleton of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Coretta (Kenneth) Glover of Sumter; and four step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Faith Enterprise Church in Sumter with the Elder Dr. Emerald Glover, officiating.
Burial followed in the Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery.
