Azalee H. Felder
Azalee Harvin Felder, 86, widow of Ravanell Felder, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
Born April 5, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Dozier Harvin and Lillie Pearson Harvin. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County and received a bachelor of science from Allen University and her master’s degree from
South Carolina State College. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joined St. James in her youth and later Mount Zion AME, where she served diligently until her health failed.
Survivors include one daughter, Alesia
Washington of Augusta, Ga.; one adopted daughter and son, Pauline (Evander) Nelson of Davis Station; one sister, Albertha
Washington of Sumter; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Historical Mount Zion AME Church in the Potato Creek section of Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. Willie J. Higgins, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.

Annie Mae D. Doughty
Annie Mae Dukes Doughty, 88, widow of Sam Doughty, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
Born Aug. 25, 1918, in Wedgefield, she was a daughter of the late Eunice Franklin Dukes and Richard Dukes. She was reared by her grandmother, Alice Dukes. She received her formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Elizabeth Baptist Church where she was a lifelong member.
Survivors include two sons, Hartswell “Sammy” (Veronica) Doughty and Willie Earl Doughty, both of Manning; three reared as her own, Robert Doughty of
New York,
N.Y., Leroy Doughty and Jerome Muldrow, both of Manning; three daughters, Virginia Rogers, Alice Wade and Janie Muldrow, all of Manning; three reared as her own, Joyce Ann Servance, Tonya Richburg and Cassandra McFadden, all of Manning; 16 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons and one sister.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Ashley Vaughn, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Henry McCray, the Rev. Eddie Leaaine and the Rev. Henry Pressley.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

William A. Campbell
GREENVILLE, N.C. – William A. “Wig” Campbell, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006.
A Pitt County, N.C. native, Mr. Campbell spent most of his life in the Black Jack and Grimesland communities. However, for the past eight years he had made his home in the Pactolus community with his son Ricky, daughter-in-law Meg, and grandson Lee, whom he loved very much. For many years he and his wife farmed, until he went to work as a security guard. He was a member of Black Jack Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Hardee Campbell; and a son, William Ray Campbell.
Surviving are a son, Ricky Allen (Margaret “Meg”) Campbell of Havelock, N.C.; two daughters, Betty C. Lamm of Greenville and Janice C. (Robert) Frye of Winterville, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Marie Campbell of Summerton; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, in Pinewood Memorial Park, Greenville, with the Rev. James Gurkins officiating.
Mannie R. Brock
Mannie Rickenbaker Brock, 91, husband of Frances Cothran Brock, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at his home in Summerton.
Born Sept. 6, 1915, he was a son of the late Allan Eugene and Bessie Rickenbaker Brock. He was a retired farmer and merchant, a United States Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Summerton Baptist Church.
Surviving besides his wife of 61 years of Summerton are two sons, Rick (Debbie) Brock of Hazard, Ky. and Harvin (Lynn) Brock of Manning; two daughters, Gene Benfield of Manning and Ginger (Cecil) Ridgill of Darlington; special caretaker, Alice Gaymon; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, in Summerton Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.
Burial followed in Summerton Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Baxley, Kenny Cogdill, David Tindal, Cecil Ridgill III, Mitch Richburg, and Jason Brock.
Honorary pallbearers are the Skelley-Wells Men’s Bible Class and Kenny Chapman.

Susan G. Dennis
Susan G. Dennis, 89, died on Dec. 12, 2005, at the home of her granddaughter in Sumter.
She was a daughter of the late Daniel Garris and Charolette Singleton Garris. She was also the widow of Earl Mack and Aaron Dennis. She was educated in the public school system of Clarendon County. At an early age, she joined Liberty Hill UME Church and later moved to Sumter and joined New Jerusalem Fire Baptist Holiness Church, where she served on the mother’s board and other composites in the church.
During her early age, she met the late Earl Mack and to this union three children were born. She later met and married the late Aaron Dennis.
Survivors include one son, George Mack of Baltimore, Md.; 15 grandchildren, 11 reared in the home, Willie Mae (William) Singleton of the home, Barbara, Mary Ann, Gloria Jean, Michael, Shiveen, Timothy, Curtis, Margie, Loutricia, William Hilton of Ridgeland, George Mack Jr., Rachell Mack, and Steven Mack, all of Baltimore, George Edward Wright of Sumter; two sisters, Charlotte Brunson of Sumter and Ester (Jessie) Mitchell of Charleston; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Mack of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Mary Dennis of Summerton and Ernestine Dennis of Boston, Mass.; 34 great- grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Earline M. Hilton; one son, Curtis “Bo-Jack” Mack; one granddaughter, Lou Anna Wilson; four sisters; and five brothers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, from the Canty Memorial Church of God In Christ in Sumter, with Elder Eugene Canty, pastor, the Rev. Telley Gadson, presiding, the Rev. Annette Robinson, eulogist, pastor of New Jerusalem FBH Church, Sumter, assisted by the Rev. M.G. Walters, Minister Glenn Robinson and the Rev. Ethel Sweat.
Burial was in the Hillside Memorial Park in Sumter.

Thelma L. Pearson
Thelma Lewis Pearson entered eternal rest at the National Healthcare Center in Sumter on Dec. 12, 2005.
She was born in Clarendon County, on Jan. 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Flegler A. Lewis and Lucille Bennett Lewis. Mrs. Lewis was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a faithful member of Union Station AME Church in Sumter. During her worship at Union Station, she was a member of the missionary board, women’s ministry, pastor aide, stewardess board number three, and Friendly Gadson’s Inspiration Choir.
Survivors include her husband, William Pearson of Sumter; three brothers, John Lewis, Matthew (Rosa) Lewis, both of Sumter, and Joe (Doris) Lewis of Temple Hill, Md.; two sisters, Beatrice Cranford of Texarkana,
Texas, and Anna Maria (Willie) Jenkins of Sumter; her mother-in-law, Channie Wright Pearson of Sumter.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at Union Station AME Church in Sumter with the Rev. Friendly Gadson, pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.E. Galloway, the Rev. L.T. James, the Rev. R.R. Hooper and the Rev. H. Ellis.
Burial followed in Walker Cemetery.

Curtis Anderson
SCRANTON – Mr. Curtis “Dagger” Anderson, age 60, died Tuesday Nov. 22, 2005 at the Lake City Community Hospital after an illness.
Born in Clarendon County he was a son of the late David Lamb Anderson and Mary Gladys Floyd Anderson. He was a heavy equipment operator in the landscaping industry.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Greg Phalen.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Beard Anderson of Turbeville; four daughters, Brenda Kaye Welch and Teresa A. Newman of Turbeville, Sylvia Jean Richburg and Shirley A. Sims both of Kingstree; a son, David Anderson of Turbeville; two stepdaughters, Tina Poston of Lake City and Rhonda McElveen of Turbeville; two stepsons, Gordon Phalen and Larry Phalen, both of Scranton; three sisters, Emelene Filyaw of Lake City, Eva Ruth McGee of Coward, and Madine Beard of Kingstree; three brothers, David Anderson, H.L. Anderson, both of Turbeville, and Alton Anderson of Lake City; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Valerie Phalen.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 at the Olanta Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Alfred Ham Jr.
Alfred “Apple Jack” Ham Jr., 52, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1953 in New Zion and was a son of the late Eugene Alfred “Punch” Ham and Essie Mae McKenzie Ham.
He received his formal education at Walker-Gamble school in New Zion. In his youth he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He is survived by a son, Izell Kennedy of New Zion; two brothers, Izell Ham and Nathaniel (Lillie Player) Ham, both of New Zion; sisters, Lillie Mae (James) Rhodes of New Zion and Jannie L. (Robert) McFadden, both of New Zion; and a special friend, Lillie Young of New Zion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church in New Zion with the Rev. Edward Roberts, pastor, the Rev. Jerome McCray presiding, and the Rev. Lucious Wheeler, eulogist.
Burial was in the churchyard.

Freddie Singletary Sr.
FLORENCE – Freddie Singletary Sr., 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at Carolina Hospital in Florence.
Born on June 20, 1926 in Lake City, he was the son of the late Dorsey Singletary and Beatrice Singletary and the spouse of the late Christina Wilson Singletary.
He received his education in the Florence County public school system. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. John United Methodist Church in Lake City. After moving he joined Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Turbeville. He retired from Coker Building after many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Ella M. Singletary of the home; three sons, Freddie Singletary, Jr. and Jerry Singletary, both of Conway, and John (Betty) Singletary of Lake City; one grandson reared as his own, Larry (Deloris) Mickens of New Zion; one daughter, Laura (Roosevelt) Wallace of Scranton; one brother, London Singletary of Tampa, Fla.; and four sisters, Martha Beckett and Dorsey Loveless, both of Toledo,
Ohio, Betty Lowery of Sumter and Cherry (Joe) Gaskins of Paterson, N.J.
He was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, one granddaughter, one grandson and one brother.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Zander Davis as pastor officiating and the Rev. Lucious Wheeler as eulogist. Assisting was the Rev. Johnnie W. McFadden with Evangelist Rhonda Keels.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Washington departed this earthly life on Monday morning, Nov. 21, 2005 at Lake Marion Nursing Facility.
She was born in the St. Paul Community of Summerton on May 13, 1908 and was the daughter of the late John and Callie Watson Oliver.
She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age she joined Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church where she was a faithful member until her health failed. She was a member of the Missionary Society and Stewardess Board No. 3. She attended Sunday school and Bible study faithfully. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center. In 1960 she married the late Hosea
Washington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hosea
Washington; son, Joseph Oliver; sister, Leila O. House; and brother, Simon Oliver.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two nephews, Ernest (Gloria) Oliver of Summerton and Ronald (Ruth) Oliver of Pennsaukea, N.J.; four nieces, Garra M. Green of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Vivian Oliver and Geraldine (Earl) Champagne, both of Summerton, and Norma (Waiters) Williams of Pennsaukea, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Sarah
