Martha W. Oliver
Martha W. Oliver, age 59, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
She was the daughter of the late Watkins Williams Sr. and Lillie Mae Doughty. Martha was born in Columbia and was educated in the public schools of Richland County. Upon reaching adulthood, she was united in holy matrimony to Frederick Oliver Jr. and was blessed with four children. She later relocated to Manning and became a member of Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church. Martha sang on the adult and mass choirs. She was also a member of the Helping Hand Ministry.
Martha Williams Oliver leaves to cherish precious memories, her loving and devoted husband, Frederick Oliver Jr. of the home; two daughters, Frizeal (Winford) Stukes of Manning and Emily (Macon) Bailey; two sons, Frederick Oliver III and David (Lisa) Williams; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Margaret Williams, Eva Mae Suber and Verdell W. Smith of Columbia; two brothers, Eugene Williams of Columbia and Steve (Helen) Williams of Rockledge, Fla.; four loving and caring sisters-in-law, Cleverton (the Rev. Harry L.) Wilson of Marion, the Rev. Deloris Gerow and Frizeal O. Edwards of Manning and Evangelist Patricia McCray of Baltimore, Md.; one brother-in-law, Samuel L. (Menyorn) Oliver of Manning; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by a twin, a sister, Blondell Williams; and a brother, Watkins (Cootney) Williams Jr.
Services for Martha W. Oliver were held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church, Manning, where Pastor G.K. Carter officiated.

Harry Lee Green
Harry Lee Green, 71, died Sept. 6, 2006, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born June 29, 1935, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Charlie Green Sr. and the late Rose Dow Green. Mr. Green was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. He spent most of his adult life in Thomasville, N.C.
He is preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers and one nephew.
Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are a son, James (Rena Mae) McConico of Thomasville; three daughters, Frances Junious (Roland Kess) and Vetryl Morrison, both of Thomasville, and Dorothy (Larry) Taylor of
New York; a sister; Frances (James) Deschamps of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Ida Walters of Baltimore, Md., and Kate Lee Williams of Summerton; seven grandchildren; a special niece, Deborah Nesbitt of Pinewood; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Green were held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at Mount Pleasant UME Church in the Panola community of Clarendon County. Services were officiated by the Rev. Barry Gadsen.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Robert Lee Caldwell
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Robert Lee Caldwell was born to Abraham Caldwell and the late Virginia Dubose Caldwell on Oct. 4, 1930, in the St. Paul community, Summerton. He was reared in the Rimini community, Clarendon County. He departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006.
Mr. Caldwell (Rob) was a Christian man who exemplified his love for God by serving his fellow man. He adored his family and friends and was a loving, devoted and caring person with a warm and pleasant smile.
Early in life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and attended Antioch UME Church, Pinewood, and Liberty Hill AME Church with his parents and family members. After moving to Winston-Salem at an early age, he joined First Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a member, an usher and Boy Scout leader.
His education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon and Sumter counties. Mr. Caldwell was gainfully employed at J.R. Reynolds, Winston-Salem, for 34 years, until his retirement. Along with his industrious career, he had a love for fishing, hunting and preparing delicious meals for family gatherings.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Florence Payne Caldwell and to this union five children were born.
In addition to his mother and wife, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Ada Caldwell; and two brothers, Simon and John Caldwell.
Cherishing fond memories of Mr. Caldwell are his father, Abraham Caldwell of Summerton; his five children, a son, Robert (Constance) Caldwell Jr., four daughters, Gloria (Bernard) Caldwell, Joyce (Benjamin) Brown, Janie (Michael) Pettigrew, and Virginia Caldwell, all of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Harrison of Yeadon, Pa. and Beatrice McKnight of Pinewood; two brothers, Joseph (Polly) Caldwell of Kernelsville, N.C. and Malachi Caldwell of Pinewood; one stepsister, Eloise Faulk of Chadbourn, N.C.; a cousin reared as a sister, Alberta Shannon of Pinewood; three aunts, Mattie Mae Dubose of
New York,
N.Y., Magdelene Moultrie of Summerton and Fannie Gibson of Summerton; one uncle, Sam Caldwell of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Robert Lee Caldwell were held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

Nadine M. Bradley
FLORENCE – Nadine “Sis Lump” McDowell Bradley, 89, widow of Leroy Bradley, died Sept. 3, 2006, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.
Born Nov. 9, 1917, in Olanta, she was a daughter of the late Louis McDowell and Robertha McFadden McDowell. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church, Olanta. She received her formal education in the public schools of Sumter County.
Survivors include three sons, Wallace and David Bradley of Lynchburg and Eddie Bradley of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Dorothy Rose, Joann McElveen and Barbara J. Frierson, all of Lynchburg; a granddaughter she adopted, Stephanie Bradley of Turbeville; grandson, Edward Bradley of Philadelphia; one brother, Ernest McDowell of Lynchburg; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta, with Elder Jimmy C. McGill, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Nate Brock, the Rev. Jimmy Wilson and the Rev. Warren Taylor.
Burial was in Chandler Cemetery.

Terry E. Brown
Terry Eugene Brown, 55, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at his home in Manning.
Born July 29, 1950, in Gastonia, N.C., he was a son of Lonzo Bennette Brown and the late Myrtle Marie Weaver Brown. He was a business manager.
Surviving besides his father of Manning are a son, Bryan Brown of Lake City; a daughter, Courtney Brown of Maggie Valley, N.C.; a brother, Steve Brown of Manning; two grandchildren, Hanna and Ryan Brown.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. W. Kevin Cribb officiating.

Mary W. Burgess
Mary Wilson Burgess, 76, wife of Edward Burgess Jr., died Sept. 3, 2005, at her residence, 3859 Alderman Camp Road, Alcolu.
Born Nov. 17, 1928, in the Alcolu section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Joe Wilson and Marie Singleton Wilson. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities.
Survivors besides her husband, Edward Burgess Jr. of the home, include two sons, James Edward (Annette) Burgess of Manning and Reginald Burgess (Sandra McKinney) of Odenton, Md.; three daughters, Patricia (Elijah) Sheriff of Reading, Pa., Stella Burgess of Philadelphia, and Annette Chapman of Brooklyn,
N.Y.; three brothers, Charles (Margie) Wilson of Alcolu, Clarence (Mattie) Wilson and Julius (Naomi) Wilson, both of Reading; two sisters, Martha George of Reading and Barbara Jean Starks of Orlando, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Manning Elementary School, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, assisting the Rev. Retha Nelson.
Burial was in the Harmony Presbyterian churchyard cemetery.

Dorsey M. Collins
Dorsey Maloy Collins, 79, husband of Norma Nall Collins, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, in Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.
Born March 2, 1926, in Eastman, Ga., he was a son of the late Dorsey Monroe and Rosa Mae Sellars Collins. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church in Manning, and a former scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 427 and the Gulf Coast Council, the Blackwater District Scouters in
Florida.
Surviving besides his wife of Manning are three brothers, Donnzelle Collins of Nashville, Tenn., Almon Collins of Manning and Delton Collins of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Annise Harwell of
Mississippi and Edith Hardage of Milledgeville, Ga.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in Sovereign Grace Church in Ashburn, Ga.
Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Ashburn.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Charles H. Cutter Jr.
Charles Hampton Cutter Jr., 65, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Florence, he was a son of the late Charles H. Cutter Sr. and the late Anna Mae Broach Cutter.
Mr. Cutter was employed by Justice Upholstery.
Surviving are his lifelong companion, Linda Landon of Manning; two sons, Charles H. Cutter III of Manning and Ricky Cutter of St. George; four daughters, Sylvia Neal of St. George, Tammy Cutter and Tonya Huggins of Conway, and Tina Frayle of Manning; four brothers, Dale Cutter, Wayne Cutter, Randal Cutter, all of Manning, and Leon Cutter of St. George; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Cutter.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, in Rehoboth Cemetery in Manning.

Leroy Filyaw
Leroy Filyaw, 55, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at his home.
Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Dallas William Filyaw and the late Mary Lee Sims Filyaw.
Mr. Filyaw worked for Santee Print Works and attended New Testament Lighthouse Church on Boulevard Road.
Surviving are his companion of 32 years, Burma Ned Cleveland Rhodus; three brothers, William Filyaw and Charlie Everett Filyaw, both of Lake City and Dallas W. Filyaw Jr. of New Zion; four sisters, Betty Richburg of Kingstree, Catherine Parker of New Zion, Elizabeth Godman of Olanta and Pauline Niester of Fayetteville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at New Testament Lighthouse Church with the Revs. Mary Watford and the Rev. Benjamin Floyd officiating.
Burial followed in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Barrineau.
