Willie Lee Smoot
Willie Lee Smoot, 46, died Dec. 29, 2004, in Sumter, South Carolina.
Born Jan. 3, 1958, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Alexander and Dora Mae Brunson Smoot.
Mr. Smoot was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, and was a 1978 graduate of Furman High School. Upon graduation, Willie Lee enlisted in the United States Navy. During his five-year enlistment, he traveled extensively throughout the United States, Guam, the Philippines and Panama. He received an honorable discharge and returned home to Pinewood, S.C.
Willie was an avid basketball enthusiast, a roofer by trade and worked in his community doing yard work and other jobs for his neighbors and friends.
Survivors include two brothers, Alexander (Denise) Smoot, Jr., of High Point, N.C., and Jerry Louis (Betty) Smoot of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Marie Smoot (Horton) Baxter of Manning, S.C., and Doretha Smoot (William) Johnson of Sumter, S.C.; four uncles, three aunts, three nephews, two nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in the parlor of Job’s Mortuary Inc. with the Rev. Joseph D. Ricks officiating.
Burial was in Walker Cemetery.

W. Dalton Reardon
Wade Dalton Reardon, 60, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 in a Darlington hospital.
Mr. Reardon was born August 29, 1944, in Clarendon County, a son of Mrs. Gladys Knowlton Reardon and the late Wade H. Reardon. He was a graduate of East Clarendon High School and was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of New Zion, are three brothers, Glenn Reardon and Oris Reardon, both of Kingstree and Alga Reardon of New Zion; six nieces, two nephews, 3 great-grand nieces and 9 grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, John Vearon Reardon.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 14 at Midway Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Midway Presbyterian Church.

Lillian G. Rantin
Lillian Gibson Rantin, 33, wife of Chris L. Rantin, died Jan. 2, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born July 10, 1971, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Virginia Gibson and Pickney Oliver. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a member of Shilo Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Shalena K. Gibson and Shakeyla Gibson, both of the home; two sisters, Elizabeth Gibson of Columbia, Md., and Debbie Gibson of Sumter; and a host of other sisters and brothers.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Shilo Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. O’Donald Dingle officiating, assisted by Dr. C. Richburg, the Rev. J.H. Pringle, the Rev. Bobby McDonald and the Rev. Sam Miller.

Ruth Jeanette Moore
SHELBY, N.C. — Ruth Jeanette Moore, 63, died Monday, January 3, 2005 in Cleveland Regional Hospital in Shelby, N.C.
Born December 7, 1941, in Rome, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Paul and Marjorie Hardin Pomikala.
Surviving are three sisters, Gail Bevell of Summerton, Annie Larkin of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Joanne Fardis of Norwalk, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Moore.
A private family burial service was held on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Round Hill, N.C.

Joseph Jones Sr.
Mr. Joseph Jones Sr., husband of Mrs. Theola Polite Jones, of 1880 Britton Road, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2004, at his home.
Mr. Jones was born in Sumter County, the son of Mrs. Annie Lou Gaymon Jones and the late John Adam Jones. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Eastern High School. He was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board, and sang on O.S. Scott Choir. He was a member of the Doc Lewis and the St. Matthews Gospel Singers. He was employed at Sumter Cabinet Co. as an inspector.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Theola P. Jones, of the home; one son, Joseph Jones Jr., and wife, Cheryl, of Manning; three daughters, Joeann Jones, Donna Jones both of Sumter and Letosha Colorado of Tampa, Fla.; four brothers, Adam (Emma) Jones, Jimmy (Meria) Jones, Jacob (Bernice) Jones, and Leo (Lottie) Jones; three sisters Ola Mae (Cuff Jr.) Perry, Flora (the Rev. Dwight Jr.) Nelson, Inell (Rafael) Jimenez; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Mulberry Baptist Church with the Rev. O.S. Scott, Elder Frankie Perry officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Preston Johnson Jr.
Preston Johnson Jr., 88, husband of the late Sarah Servance Johnson, died Jan. 5, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1916, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Preston Johnson Sr. and Lelia Johnson. His education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a lifelong member of St. John Freewill Baptist Church and served as deacon and in several other capacities. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include one daughter, Edith Johnson Robinson of Sumter; one brother, LeErnest (Ruth) Johnson of Sumter; one sister, Lelia (Johnnie) Plowden of Manning; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at St. John Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Otis Wright, Jack Morant, Henry Mitchell and Minister Calvin Burgess officiating.
Burial was in St. Matthews Cemetery.

Cornelia Green
Cornelia “Neva” Green, 50, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 20, 1954, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Ruby McConico. She was reared by the late Wade and Agnes B. Green. She attended the public schools of North Carolina.
Survivors besides her mother, Ruby McConico of Pinewood, include one son, Christopher (Debra) Green of Columbia; five brothers, Wade Green Jr. of Thomasville, N.C., Aaron Green of White Plains, N.Y., Herbert and Robert Green of Salisbury, N.C., and Sanders Green of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sisters, Viola McConico, Barbara Jean McConico and Evangelist Mary Junious, all of Pinewood; a sister whom she was reared in the home with, Agnes Wagner of Pinewood; three grandchildren, Wesley and Carmon Green and Forest Parker, all of Columbia.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2004, at New Hope AME Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. Nathaniel Edwards officiating, assisted by the Rev. Larry Davis, the Rev. J.H. Pringle and Elder Roosevelt Boyd.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sara G. Floyd
Mrs. Sara Gertrude Bagnal Floyd, 76, died on Jan. 8, 2005.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Belton Bagnal Sr. and Lula G. Evans Bagnal. She was a member of Central Holiness Church where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by four sons, Ray (Roberta) Floyd and Randy (Suzette) Floyd of New Zion; Eddie (Sondra) Floyd of Turbeville and Joe Floyd of Camden; two sisters, Mary E. Mahoney of Manning and Harriet Joann Wiggins of Suffolk, Va.; one brother, the Rev. Clyde Bagnal of New Zion; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlysle Floyd, one sister, Grace I. Bagnal; two brothers, Joseph Belton Bagnal Jr. and Donald Bagnal.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the Free Will Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith Camp Ground.
Burial followed in the New Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Central Holiness Church Building Fund.

Thomas Moorer
Thomas “Tommy” Moorer, 64, husband of Emma Johnson Moorer, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
Born April 8, 1940, in the Hallietown community of Manning, he was a son of the late Joe Moorer and Katie Oliver Moorer. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Elizabeth Baptist Church. He moved to Baltimore, Md., and was employed with Amhrein Bakery and Concrete Pipe and Products. Later he returned home and was employed with Santee Exxon. He retired in 2002.
Survivors besides his wife, Emma Johnson Moorer of the home, include two sons, Glen (Sharon) Johnson of Union, N.J., and Michael Phillips of Belleville, N.J.; two daughters, Jeanette Spain of Baltimore, Md., and Stephaine (Curtis) Hopkins of Sumter; four sisters, Lucille (Leroy) Lemon of Baltimore, Md., Hulean Kinder and Viola Riley, both of Manning, and Queen Singleton of Norwalk, Conn.; one niece raised as a sister, Josephine (William) Brady of Durham, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and an adopted daughter, Janie Thomas of Palm Beach, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Moore Jr.; one sister, Geneva Brunson; and one brother, George Moorer Sr.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Elizabeth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ashley B. Vaughn, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elder Adam Johnson, Minister Jeffrey Taylor and the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.
