Rutha Sade Davis, 20, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
Born May 5, 1986, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Glen Pompey and Patricia Davis. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Harmony Presbyterian Church.
Survivors besides her mother, Patricia (Dave) Wigfall of Manning and father, Glen Pompey of Manning, include her maternal grandparents, Deacon James and Ethel “Susie” Anderson of Dorchester, Mass.; paternal grandparents, Marion and Elaine Dantzler of Alcolu; paternal grandmother, Nettie Williams of Troy,
N.Y.; great-grandmother, Florine Simon of Manning; and two brothers, Stephen “Pop” Davis and Maurice Davis, both of Manning.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Cokley Richburg, eulogist, the Rev. Rufus Gaymon, presiding, assisting the Rev. Carnell Hampton.
Burial followed in the Harmony Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Queen D. Carraway
Queen Dingle Carraway, 49, wife of Alfred Carraway, died Oct. 3, 2006, at her residence in Manning.
Born Nov. 27, 1956, in the Hallietown section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Dingle and Luella Mae Ragin Dingle. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated in 1977 from Manning High School. She also attended Central Carolina. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ as her Savior. She later became a member of New Life Bible Church in 1982, where she served faithfully.
Survivors besides her husband, Alfred Carraway of the home, include her mother-in-law, Daisy Carraway of Manning; two sons, Al-Deleon Carraway and Travis R. Carraway, both of Orlando, Fla.; one nephew reared as her own, Patrick Dingle of Pascagoula, Miss.; two daughters, Malaker C. Carraway of Atlanta, Ga. and Wanda William of Manning; four brothers, Abie Dingle of Columbia, James (Lilliese) Dingle and Londell Charles, both of Summerton, and James (Mary) Moore of Manning; nine sisters, Dorthory Gardner of Baltimore, Md., Lillie (Thornell) Brunson, Ada Pearson, Helen Dingle, Juanita (Jerome) Oliver, and Joyce Dingle, all of Manning, Joanne (Ervin) Nelson of Atlanta, Ga., Mary A. Hart and Diane (Leroy) Lawson, both of Summerton; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. George Johnson, pastor of New Life Bible Church, eulogist, the Rev. Nate Brock presiding, and the Rev. Wilbert White assisting.
Burial was in Cypress Fork AME Church Cemetery.

Charles M. Sanders
Charles Mayo Sanders, 81, formerly of King George, Va., husband of Cecelia Katherine Miscoski Sanders, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Aug. 12, 1925, in Little Rock, Ark., he was a son of the late Clarence and Minnie Mayo Sanders. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a retired master electrician. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Surviving besides his wife of Alcolu are three sons, Raymond (Deborah Marie) Sanders of Huntingtown, Md., Steven Patrick (Cheryl Ann) Sanders of Hanover, Md., and Douglas Edward (Susan Marie) Sanders of Alcolu; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Kevin Cribb officiating.

Joseph A. Richburg
HANAHAN – Joseph Arnold Richburg, 67, husband of Harriett Elizabeth Wilson Richburg, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Roper Northwoods Hospital in North Charleston.
Born Sept. 5, 1939, in Alcolu, he was the son of the late Joseph Allen and Annie Elise Cutter Richburg. He was a retired truck driver for Texaco with 32 years of service and had been inducted into the Texaco Hall of Fame for 3 million miles accident-free. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was on the maiden voyage of the USS Kittyhawk. He was a Baptist.
Surviving besides his wife of Hanahan are two sons, Joseph Kirk Richburg and Joseph Eric Richburg, both of Charleston; three daughters, Gail R. (Scott) Duke of Manning, Donna R. (Norman) Martin of Summerton, and Connie Dale Richburg of Barnwell; three stepdaughters, Peggy (Tommy) Bowers of
North Carolina, Debra (Troy) Todd of Hanahan, and Suzette (Rob) Russell of
Georgia; two sisters, LeGay Elmore of Bishopville and Patsy (Randy) Eaddy of Greeleyville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Charlie Tyler officiating.
Burial followed in Rehobeth Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Murdaugh, Randy Eaddy, Tommy Bowers, Rob Russell, Troy Todd and Norman Martin.

Booker T. McFadden
Booker T. McFadden, 66, husband of Nellie Johnson McFadden, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at his residence.
Born Oct. 26, 1941, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Johnny McFadden and the late Annie Epps McFadden. He was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Manning Training School. Prior to returning to
South Carolina in 1982, he was employed with Clairol Bristol Myers in
Connecticut for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Maurice (Roselind) McFadden of Vernon, Conn., and Larry Nelson of Manning; five brothers, Henry (Vertelle) McFadden of Brandon, Fla., Richard (Deloris) McFadden of Lewisburg, Pa., Alexander McFadden and Truman McFadden, both of Manning, and Wendell (Cheryl) McFadden of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Lousie McFadden of Queens Village,
N.Y., Virginia (Gregory) Tucker of Elmont,
N.Y., and Sara M. Hampton of Floral Park,
N.Y.; two grandchildren; one uncle, John Epps of Philadelphia, Pa.; and two aunts, Hattie Montgomery of Sumter and Rachel McFadden of Richmond, Va.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny McFadden Jr.; and two sisters, Mary McFadden and Daisy McFadden.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Harmony Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Alcolu, with the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Colclough officiating, the Rev. O’Donald Dingle, the Rev. Greg Tucker and the Rev. Malachi Gibson assisting.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Debra A. Franklin
Debra Anita Franklin, age 53, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born in Clarendon County on Nov. 6, 1953, she was the daughter of William T. “Jake” Franklin and Mildred Wright Singleton. She was first married to Bradley Jones of Brooklyn,
N.Y., and then later married to James Nedwards of Sumter. She attended Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Brooklyn and the University of
New York in Brooklyn. She was a registered nurse and a seamstress who loved to sew.
Ms. Franklin leaves to cherish her memories, her father, William T. “Jake” Franklin and mother, Mildred Wright Singleton; two brothers, Howard Franklin of Triangle, Va., and Charles Franklin of Bushkill, Pa.; three sisters, Cynthia Allegne of Bushkill, ZeZe Franklin of Brooklyn and Alberta Wright of Manhattan,
N.Y.; three aunts, Essie Franklin of Bamburg, Daisy Gash of Orlando, Fla., and Virginia Carpenter of New Orleans; five uncles, John H. Franklin Jr. of
California, Louis Franklin of Brooklyn, Sylvester Franklin and Willie Wright, both of Sumter, and Thomas Wright of
New York,
N.Y.; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Franklin and William T. Franklin Jr.; and one aunt, Janie Wilson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston officiating.
Burial was in Mount Nebo Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers were brothers, nephews and nieces.

Jeanette C. Thynes
Jeanette Cummings Thynes, age 70, of Sumter, formerly of Lillington, N.C., died Feb. 8, 2007, at Moore Regional Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late C.C. and Mary Lou Cummings. She was born in Harnett County and grew up in the Raven Rock community. She was a member of Raven Rock Presbyterian Church. She lived in Sumter for more than 30 years. She attended First Assembly of God, Sumter.
Survivors include her husband, Merlyon “Gene” Thynes of Sumter; three sons, Gary Thynes of Saluda, Chris (Paula) Thynes of Sumter and Jason (Judi) Thynes of Manning; two daughters, Jennifer Casselman of Manning and Amy (Mark) Gibson of Sumter; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wintford (Selma) Cummings of Raven Rock.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Raven Rock Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald Morris Smith and the Rev. Pat Fletcher officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Roosevelt Brogdon
Mr. Roosevelt Brogdon, husband of Armisher Brogdon, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Mariner Health of Sumter.
Born March 12, 1911, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Nora Brogdon and the late Rev. Fred Davis.
He came to Sumter at an early age and joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. During his years at Jehovah, he served as a trustee. Mr. Brogdon retired from
Georgia Pacific Furniture Co.; in addition, he did masonry and carpentry work and served as a part-time police officer in Mayesville.
Survivors include his wife, Armisher Brogdon of the home; one daughter, Sallie Davis of Columbia; three grandchildren, Shunda N. Davis and Johlyn S. Kennedy, both of Columbia, and Devin M. Kennedy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Joshua Davis of Chadbourn, N.C. and Paul Davis of Dallas.
Texas; two sisters, Nancy Pegee of Chadbourn, N.C., and Queen Rouse of Fayetteville, N.C.; and a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Johnnie Mae Perry and Elaine Kennedy; three sisters, Emily Bolden, Madge Jackson and Annie Mae Sanders; and four brothers, Hudnell Brogdon, Richard Brogdon, Rhodie Brogdon and Ben Davis.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marion Newton, pastor, officiating, assisted by Bishop Sammy C. Smith, the Rev. Tommy Duren, the Rev. Dr. Ellie Palmer, the Rev. Dr. Charles Duren Jr. and the Rev. Larry C. Weston.
Pallbearers and floral bearers were family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Sumter County Sheriff’s deputies.
Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Park.

William J. Butler
William Jerry Butler, 65, died Jan. 29, 2007, at his brother’s home in Manning.
Born April 27, 1941, in the Ram Bay section of Manning, he was a son of the late Willie Butler and Oree Hymes Butler. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Mount Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed by the
South Carolina Department of Transportation, where he retired after 30 years of service and received many certificates for his service.
Survivors include his close friend, Viree White; two daughters, Pam R. White and Kim D. White, both of Manning; three brothers, Tarlton Butler and Adger Butler, both of Manning, and Willie J. (Mary) Butler of Baltimore, Md.; one nephew reared as a brother, John E. Butler of Manning; and three sisters, Susie M. Ragin of
Florida, Eliza (Maurice) McCormick of Covington, Ga., and Lether (Elder James) Leach of Joppa, Md.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Lemon.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Mount Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, with the Rev. Carnell Witherspoon, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elder James Leach.
Burial was in Hilton Cemetery.
