Emma Lee Floyd
OLANTA – Emma Lee Floyd, 61, wife of V.J. Floyd, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence.
Born Nov. 5, 1945, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Laura Lee Lowder Thigpen. She was employed at Williamsburg Packing Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving besides her husband of Olanta are her stepmother, Sara Horton of Madison, Tenn.; three daughters, Sherry St. John of Sellersburg, Ind., Janet Watts of Turbeville and Karen (Bobby) Broyhill of Florence; two sons, Kerry St. John of Sellersburg and Marion Watts of Turbeville; a brother, Edward Thigpen of Old Fort, N.C.; a half-brother, Cecil Thigpen of Madison; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Carl Edwards officiating.
Burial followed in Home Branch Baptist Church cemetery.

Wilkins L. Broadway
Wilkins Lawrence Broadway, 92, husband of Agnes Broadway, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Lewis and Mary Alice “Molly” Bradham Broadway. Mr. Broadway was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church and an avid gardener. He was retired from Korn Industries.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Broadway; one son, William Broadway; one stepson, Edward Gainey; three brothers, Kizer, Luther and Marion Broadway; three sisters, Leona Broadway, Mary Lou Foster and Thelma Dove; a granddaughter, Kim Allen; and a grandson, Gary Broadway.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, James Broadway of Sumter and Robert Broadway of Chino,
Calif.; one daughter, Charlotte Hill of Sumter; one stepson, Jimmy Gainey of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Ann McDaniel of Sumter and Kathy Rutledge of Archbald, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday. Jan. 28, 2007 in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Martin Broadway, Steve Broadway, Zannie Broadway, Ken Coker, Larry Hill and Donald Derrick.
Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Senior Adult Sunday School class.

Benjamin Anthony
Benjamin Anthony, nephew of Josephine Magazine, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at Providence Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Clarendon County on April 8, 1945, he was a son of the late Robert Anthony and Chestina Kennedy Anthony.
Private funeral arrangements were handled by Palmer Memorial Chapel.
Stacy J. Sheley
Stacy J. Sheley, 80, husband of Mary Alice Stuckey Sheley, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Born Aug. 30, 1926, in Sylvania, Ga., he was a son of the late Hugh and Anna Reddick Sheley. He was a retired vice president of marketing of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of
Georgia and also retired from Blue Cross-Blue Shield of
South Carolina. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended
Georgia Southern University.
Surviving are his wife of Manning; a daughter, Sandra Sheley of Alpharetta, Ga.; a son, Stan Sheley of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Esley Sheley of Sylvania, Ga.; a sister, Hulda Downing of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jason and Brandon Sheley; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven J. Sheley.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Debra Quilling officiating.
Burial followed in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Teresa L. Richburg
Teresa L. Richburg, 86, widow of James O. Richburg Sr., died Dec. 9, 2006, at Hopewell Nursing Home.
Born in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Hardy and Sarah Lawson Green. She was educated in the public schools of Summerton. She accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Friendship AME Church in Silver.
Survivors include two sons, James Ollie (Viola) Richburg and John Allen (Joyce) Richburg, both of Sumter; one brother, Henry (Thelma) Green of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec., 14, 2006, in the Parlor of Job’s Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. James B. Stukes, pastor of Friendship AME Church, Silver community of Summerton, officiating.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
Bertie Green
Bertie Green died at her home in Turbeville on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2006, after an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Forrest Carlisle Green Sr. and Patricia Smith Green. She was a graduate of East Clarendon High School and Winthrop College. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and a master’s degree from Appalachian State University. She completed extensive studies in the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.
Bertie was a lifelong member of the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church, where she served in the choir and in various other ministries.
She is survived by a sister, Velma (Randy) Floyd of Summerville; brothers, Ed (Maxine) Green, F.C. (Susan) Green and George (Frankie) Green, all of Turbeville, and Zollie Green of Surfside Beach; 12 nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Andrena S. Duren
Our Lord, in His infinite wisdom, has always given us sunshine before sorrow. And it was the 9th day of September in the year of our Lord 1916 that Andrena Shepherd was born to Daniel W. Shepherd and Reatha Kirkland Shepherd in the Olar section of Bamberg County.
She died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Sumter East Health and Rehab.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Olar. After moving to Sumter in 1928, she joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she received her early Christian education and served as an usher. In 1941, she was united in marriage to the late Deacon Carnes Duren Sr. She served as a member of the deaconess ministry and the Wide Awake Club until her health failed.
Over the years, “Grandma Duren” exhibited the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) in caring for her children. She always loved to help care for children and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She always loved to help care for children and spent many years providing care for children in the Sumter area in her loving and tender manner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Carnes Duren Sr.; a son, Freddie F. Duren; two brothers, Daniel Shepherd and George Shepherd; and two sisters, Ella Brand and Ozell Swinton.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: four sons, James A. (Beverly) of Manning, Carnes Jr. (Laureen) of Lynchburg, David A. (Mary) of Pinewood and Titus (Beverly) of Eastover; three daughters, Elizabeth (William) McFadden of Manning, Patricia Waddell of Sumter and Loretta (Raymond) Logan of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Amishia (Roosevelt) Brogdon of Sumter; two foster daughters, Willie Mae Waklatsi of Sumter and Jacqueline Glisson June of Sumter; 34 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives, loving and dutiful caregivers and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Mario H. Newton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Nate Brock, the Rev. Terry Law, the Rev. Larry C. Weston and the Rev. Ellie W. Palmer.
Interment followed in Hillside Memorial Cemetery.
Flower bearers were the deaconess ministry of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were the deacon ministry of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church.

Julia R. Davis
LEXINGTON – Julia “Julie” Richbourg Davis, 40, passed away on Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at her home in Lexington.
Born May 20, 1966, in Winston Salem, N.C., she was a daughter of Joseph Paul Richbourg and Jean Brogdon McKenzie. She was a retired administrative assistant for the Department of Social Services, and was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides her father and stepmother, Sandra Jennings Richbourg, of Myrtle Beach and her mother of Columbia are a daughter, Margaret Hope Davis of Lexington; a son, Brendan Daniel Davis of Lexington; a grandson, Skyler Lucas Timothy; a sister, Paula R. (Christopher) Adams of Bradenton, Fla.; and a niece, Katherine “Kayley” Adams.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church near Summerton with the Rev. Christopher Adams and the Rev. Emily Allen officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Robert J. Collins
Robert Jermaine Collins, 18, died Dec. 8, 2006, at S.C. 261 East, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born March 26, 1988, in Manning, he was a son of Evangelist Annie Dell Samuels Collins Johnson and the late Robert Collins and stepson of Robert Johnson. He was a 2006 graduate of Manning High School and a member of the ROTC, FBLA, Manning High School chorus and the FFA. In his early years, he attended Light Hill Baptist and St. James Baptist churches. Later he attended New Beginning Baptist Church.
Survivors besides his mother, Evangelist Annie Dell Samuels Collins Johnson, and stepfather, Deacon Robert Johnson, include two brothers, Quinton J. Collins of the home and Cedric L. Collins of Columbia; and two sisters, Telza C. Collins of the home and Charlene Denise Samuels of Sumter.
He was preceded in death by one brother, his maternal grandparents and paternal grandmother.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Manning Elementary School, with the Rev. Handsome Major, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Albert Rose and Minister David Woods.
Burial will be in St. James Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Greeleyville.
