Mary Evelyn B. McIntosh

Mary Evelyn Brown McIntosh, 77, widow of Clarence McIntosh, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Bishopville, she was a daughter of the late Jack Brown and the late Bertie Rodgers Brown. Mrs. McIntosh was a retired cosmetologist.

Surviving are three sons, Jackie McIntosh, Billy McIntosh and Michael McIntosh, all of Sumter; two daughters, Linda McElveen of Sumter and Brenda Morris of Alcolu; a brother, Wilbur Brown of Sumter.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Magaw officiating.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.

Polly Culick Brogdon

On the Lord’s day, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, God called home another angel, Polly Culick Brogdon, 58, wife of Allard M. “Sonny” Brogdon III.

Born April 18, 1948, in Lake City, she was a daughter of the late Otto Victor and Queen Esther Jordan Culick. She was a customer service representative at First Citizens Bank in Summerton and a member of Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu.

Surviving besides her husband of Alcolu are a daughter, Connie (Robert) Wolfe of Sumter; two sons, Allard M. (Rebecca) Brogdon IV of Alcolu and Victor E. Brogdon of Alcolu; a sister, Dorothy “Dot” (Albert) Altman of Marion; a brother, Eugene (Noveleen) Culick of Olanta; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, in Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu with the Revs. Kirk Carlisle and Norman Rogers officiating.

Burial will follow in Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Wayne Ward, Wendell Morris, Bobby Bolton, David McCabe, Russell Harrelson, Ferrell Gardner and William Locklair.

Memorials may be made to Clarendon Baptist Church and the Bus Fund of Clarendon Baptist Church, P. O. Box 307, Alcolu, S.C. 29001.

Carl W. Woods Sr.

Carl William Woods Sr., 52, of Alcolu, husband of Sandra Baker Woods, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Nov. 13, 1953, in New Zion, he was a son of the late Woodrow Woods Sr. and Alma Brogdon Woods. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined William Chapel Christian Church. He was employed by Georgia Pacific for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Baker Woods of the home; two sons, Carl Woods Jr. of the home and Derrick Shelvon Woods of the home; two daughters, Carsandra Denise Woods of the home and Ashley (Micheal) Moses of Alcolu; one brother, Woodrow Woods Jr. of Alcolu; two sisters, Mary (the Rev. Barney) Dozier of Manning and Martha (Albert) Frierson of Alcolu; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at William Chapel Christian Church in Manning, with the Rev. Emanuel Evans, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Barney Dozier.

Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret D. Wade

Margaret Dingle Wade, 65, widow of Melvin “Tim” Wade Sr., died Oct. 20, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born June 18, 1941, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Mose Dingle and Ida Smith Dingle. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Chapel Baptist Church. She later joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist and served faithfully on the senior choir, gospel choir, mass choir and usher board.

Survivors include one son, Melvin (Pamela) Wade Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Dannette Wade of Manning; three brothers, Israel Dingle of Miami, Fla., Willie (Louise) Dingle of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mose (Pauline) Dingle of Sylvania, Ga.; three sisters, Margie (Columbus) Daney of Severn, Md., Evelyn (Eddie) Wade of Hollywood, Fla., and Isabelle (Frank) Budgett of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; adopted children, Patricia Pringle, Gregory (Teri) Pringle, Richard (Jackie) Pringle and Georgette (Lee Ardis) Rivers.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, with the Rev. George P. Windley, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lewis Walker Jr., the Rev. Neal Hester and Minister Slyvester Francis.

Burial was in Goodwill Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.

Felix Scott Jr.

Felix Scott Jr., 53, companion of Mattie Kennedy, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born June 23, 1953, in Tallahassee, Fla., he was a son of the late Felix Scott Sr. and Bertha Scott. He received his education in the public schools of Tallahassee. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined House of Prayer Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, LaShanda Lowery of Sumter, Ida Mae Harrison and Ebony Scott, both of Alcolu; a stepson, Dale Burgess; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. Don Lowery, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the House of Prayer Baptist Church cemetery in Lynchburg.

Minnie Ida B. Felder

Minnie Ida “Mama” Brown Felder, 91, died Oct. 23, 2006, at her home.

Born Jan. 12, 1915, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late John “Wash” Brown and the late Rose Green. Mrs. Felder received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Elijah Felder. She was reared in a Christian home and became a member of Greater St. Phillips RMUE Church.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, three daughters, three sons, two granddaughters, a grandson and a daughter-in-law.

Those left to celebrate her life and grow from her love are two daughters, Willene Linton of the home and Camilla Green of Summerton; four sons, George Felder of the home, James Felder of Silver, John “Wash” Felder of Newark, N.J., and John (Annie) Green Jr. of Summerton; seven grandchildren she reared as her own, Sheldon Livingston of Goose Creek, Michael (Linda) Livingston of Columbia, Cindy Workman of Atlanta, Ga., Willie L. Felder of Kershaw, Garry J. (Angela) Green of Sumter, Derrick (Melvina) Green of Rimini, and Melissa D. Green of Summerton; four favorite cousins, Earline Canty and Richard Brown, both of Summerton, Willene (Harrison) Jones of Columbia and Wash Bennett of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son-in-law, John Green Sr. of Hartford, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Felder of Sumter; a special niece, Francena (Tommy) Oliver of Thomasville, N.C.; 60 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Felder were held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at the Greater St. Phillips RMUE Church in Pinewood, with the Rev. Warren Hatcher, eulogist, officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald R. Evans

Gerald Riley “Gator” Evans, 52, husband of Dianne Grimsley Evans, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Feb. 20, 1954, in Manning, he was a son of the late Wilson Evans and the late Wavil Bradshaw Evans Smith.

He was in machine maintenance, a former member of the South Carolina National Guard and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Alcolu.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning, are stepfather, Bobby Smith of Kingstree; a son, Justin Wilson (Robyn) Evans of Manning; three brothers, Ronald Evans of Alcolu, Donald Evans of Sumter, and Arnold Evans of Columbia; a sister, Angela Duke of Gadsden; and two grandchildren, Ethan Wilson Evans and Austin Riley Evans.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Raymond Barfield and Lonnie Grimsley officiating.

Burial followed in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy, P.O. Box 1322, Manning, S.C. 29102.

Janice Stevens

CONWAY – Janice Marie Markle Stevens, 67, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Conway Medical Center.

Born May 1, 1939, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Vileta Gibbons Markle. She was a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church.

Surviving besides her companion, Thomas Winburn of Conway, are a son, Eric (Susan) Stevens of Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters, Kathryn M. Burgess of New Zion, Jo M. Sessions of Myrtle Beach, Stella Grant of Cassatt and Beth Gardner of McBee; a brother, LeRoy Markle of Turbeville; and a granddaughter, Anna Stevens of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Novia M. Miklosko, and stepmother, Doris Markle.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Turbeville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Griggs officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, 168 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, S.C. 29526.

Sandra Hammond

Sandra Eileen Evans Hammond, 43, wife of Donald E. “Donnie” Johnson, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 26, 1963, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Blanche McCall Evans. Mrs. Hammond was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband; a son, Brock (Julia) Dennis and a sister, Vicki Hudson, all of Sumter.

A memorial service was to be held at a later date at Brewington Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Willie Stukes

Willie Stukes, fondly known as “Monkeypig,” died Feb. 1, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born Feb. 5, 1945, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Damon and Martha Temony Stukes. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a member of Mount Pleasant UME. “Monkeypig” always worked hard and was employed by Santee Cooper and Clarendon County Landfill. He always tried to make things easier for his family and friends and did so with a smile.

Other than his parents, a son preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his legacy and grow from his love are his wife, Annie Fay Rhames Stukes of Summerton; two sons, Lambert Rhames of Ridgeville and Bryan Stukes of Sumter; seven daughters, Shelia Stukes, Sandra (Marvin) James and Shermica (William) Session, all of Summerton, Sherline (David) McWhite of Mountain Home, Idaho, Lucinda Stukes and Cynthia (Mack) McKenzie, both of Columbia, and Mary Alice (Javier) Lamert of New York, N.Y.; six sisters, Marguerite Stukes and Margaret Stukes, both of Atlantic City, N.J., Josephine Stukes and Dora Mae Temony, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Minnie Ida Smith of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Mary Gore of Myrtle Beach; five brothers, George (Rozetta) Stukes and Anthony Stukes of Philadelphia, Gerome (Gwendolyn) Stukes of Mistic, N.J., Luther (Michelle) Stukes of Atlantic City, and Ernest Lee Stukes of Bronx, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law, Jacqueline (Theodore) Smythe of Summerton, Earnestine Rhames of West Palm Beach, Fla., Minnie Ruth Rhames of Belle Glade, Fla., and Helen Cauge of Ridgeville, Ga.; two brothers-in-law, Jacob (Brenda) Rhames and Willie Rhames, both of Summerton; an uncle, Earnest Temony of Stranton; 28 grandchildren, one of which he reared as his own, Adrianne (Ferry) Cannon of Hampton, Va.; one great-grandson, Ferrion Cannon; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Stukes were held on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Chandler officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth L. Rogers

Elizabeth Laura Rogers, 81, wife of Doyle L. “Mr. Bill” Rogers, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Windsor Manor, near Summerton.

Born Jan. 14, 1926, in Levi, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Jestice and Lilly Morris Riley. She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving besides her husband of Summerton are two daughters, Barbara (Al) Long of Roxboro, N.C., and Deborah (W.A.) Long of Yanceyville, N.C.; a sister, Nancy Larkin of Summerton; four grandchildren, Stephen, Tracy, Michelle and Christopher Long; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kacey and Cade Long.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, in Theresa Baptist Church Cemetery in Roxboro with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning was in charge of local arrangements.
