Katherine Belser
GEORGIA – Katherine Belser, 75, of Stone Mountain, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at Golden Living Nursing Home in Decatur, Ga.
She was born May 30, 1932, in Summerton, to the late Robert White and the late Julia Kind. Taking care of her grandchildren was her passion. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary “Lil Mary” Stukes, and a sister, Margaret James Canady.
Those left to grow from her love and celebrate her life are a husband, Charlie Belser of Summerton; a son, Mitchell Kind of Stone Mountain; a daughter,
Georgia (Andre’) Hibbert of Stone Mountain; a brother, James (Rosa) Kind Jr.; six grandchildren, Michael Kind, Jennifer Kind, Randi Dingle, Sierra Hibbert, Andre’ Hibbert Jr. and Amir Hibbert; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Scott’s Branch High School gymnasium with Bishop J.L. Gilliam officiating.
Burial followed in the Ivory Cemetery in Davis Station.

Rubye S. Corbett
Rubye Scott Corbett, 83, wife of 40 years of the late David E. Corbett Sr., peacefully ended her life’s voyage on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Henry and Elaine Byrd.
Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Charles P. Scott and the late Eunice Hodge Scott.
Mrs. Corbett was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church and was retired from Crescent Tool Co. She was also formerly employed by Charm House.
Surviving are a son, David E. “Eddie” (Marlene) Corbett Jr.; a daughter, Elaine C. Byrd and husband, Henry, all of Sumter; two brothers, Jimmie Scott and Charles P. Scott Jr., both of Sumter; one sister, Rose Ann Gagne of Irmo; two grandchildren, David Byrd and his wife, Terrie, and Deborah G. Corbett, all of Sumter; three great-great-grandchildren, Jeremy David Byrd, Zachary Daniel Byrd and Emilee Grace Byrd; and a very special friend, Miriam Hodge.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rosa Dennis Scott; brothers, John Scott, Carl Scott, George “Plug” Scott, Cecil Scott and R.K. Scott; and sisters, Ellen Barker, Patricia Sigmon and Ruth Sessions.
The family would like to thank the workers with Hospice Care of Tri County, Sue Smith, Randi Massengill, Beth Craven, Elaine Mack and Minnie Leaf, for their devotion and care given to Mrs. Corbett.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Open Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Hummel officiating.
Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were G.P. Goff, Bobby Byrd, Calvin Carraway, Preston Geddings, Jeff Dyson and great-grandson, Jeremy Byrd.

Levan McCray
Levan McCray, age 79, of Summerton, husband of C. Virginia White McCray, died July 27, 2007, at Sumter Health and Rehab Center.
He was the son of the late Goins McCray and Azalee Carter McCray. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was honorably discharged in 1952 from the U.S. Army. He served as a Jehovah’s Witness and was baptized April 10, 1954. He served as an elder for 47 years. In 1995, he retired from the
New York Transit Authority and returned home.
Survivors include his wife, C. Virginia White McCray of the home; four children, Deborah Mays, Shelly McCray, Joel (Chole) McCray and Pamela McCray; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Abraham (Eartha Lee) McCray, Walter (Maddie) McCray, Ezekiel (Dorothy) McCray and Charlie (Thelma) McCray; and two sisters, Lou Jane (Roy) Maitland and Alice McCray.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine McCray.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007.

Delicia Green
MIAMI, Fla. – Delicia “Deka” Green, of Miami, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at her home.
Born July 9, 1976, in Miami, she was a daughter of Paul Thomas and Geanice Green June and stepdaughter of the late Alphonza “Al” June.
She attended worship services at Laurel Hill AME Church and received her formal education at South Dade Senior High School in Miami. She was a 2004 graduate of F.E. DuBose Career Center in Manning and was enrolled as a senior at Chattanooga State Technical College in Chattanooga, Tenn. She was scheduled to graduate in December 2007.
Survivors besides her mother of Manning and father of Miami include a sister, Kizzy Ann (Dean) Johnson of Miami; two brothers, Eugene D. (Lisa) Green of Bishopville and Patrick Green of Humble,
Texas; a stepbrother, Derrick (Loretta) Lessene of Columbia; and maternal grandmothers, Thelma Green of Miami and Julia Walker of Sumter.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Laurel Hill AME Church in Davis Station, with the Rev. Ronnie Brown, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Ivory Cemetery.

Washington, died Monday, July, 23, 2007, in the Arista at Cedar Oak Care Center in South Plainfield, N.J.
Born in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Earl
Washington and Pearl Pew
Washington. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
He was baptized at an early age at Greenhill Baptist Church, Alcolu. He was an honorable discharged veteran serving in the Army during World War II. He retired from the
New York Housing Authority with 26 years of devoted service.
Survivors include a son, Earl (Nancy) Wilson of Piscataway, N.J.; two grandchildren; one aunt, Ida Bell of Baltimore; several nieces; nephews; sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 28, 2007, in the Hayes F. and Lanelle Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning.
Burial followed in the Greenhill Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

Quentin L. Coker
Quentin Lesley Coker, age 31, died Monday, July 23, 2007, at a Florence hospital.
Born in Manning, he was a son of Ronald Leslie Coker and Martha Elizabeth “Beth” McElveen Coker. He was a welder at Vulcraft for the past twelve years. He was a member of the Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church where he served as president of the Youth Committee, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the church’s GROW Outreach Ministries, and Praise Team.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wiley Arthur and Ila Mae McElveen; his paternal grandfather, Allen Randolph Coker; and his mother-in-law, Vina Godwin.
He is survived, in addition to his parents, by his wife, Lori Ann Godwin Coker; a daughter, Gracelyn Danielle Coker; a son, Garrett Quentin Coker; two brothers, Weston Neil (Ashley) Coker and Timothy Wade (Robin) Coker; paternal grandmother, Agnes Virginia Coker; father-in-law, Danny Godwin all of Turbeville.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sudie L. Alleyne
BROOKLYN,
N.Y. – Sudie Lawson Alleyne, 85, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Interfaith Hospital in Brooklyn.
Born Sept. 21, 1921, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Peter Lawson and the late Mae Boyd Lawson. She received her education in the public schools of
South Carolina. She later moved to
New York, where she worked in the nursing field and as a domestic assistant. She was a member of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in
New York.
She was predeceased by a sister, Alma Small of Brooklyn, who passed away on July 21, 2007.
Those left to grow from her love are a son, Ernest Lawson of West Babylon,
N.Y.; a granddaughter, Charel Broodie; an aunt, Victoria Freeson of Brooklyn; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Ms. Alleyne were held on Friday, July 27, 2007, in the Chapel of Summerton Funeral Service with the Rev. Daniel Bennett officiating.
Burial followed in the Elizabeth Baptist Church cemetery.

Sarah Woods
Sarah Tomlin Wells Woods, the daughter of the late Willie Tomlin and Violet McKenzie-Tomlin Chapman and stepdaughter of the late Joseph Chapman, was born Oct. 4, 1925, in New Zion. She died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
She was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. Robert L. McKenzie; one adopted sister, Gertrude Reardon; one aunt, Lillian W. Gamble; and her companion, Harold Woods.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In her early years, she joined Howard Chapel AME Church in New Zion, where she served on the Women’s Missionary Society. She moved to Brooklyn,
N.Y., for more than 30 years and later returned to Turbeville in 1996.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Freeman Wells. This union was blessed with five children.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two loving daughters, Johnnie Mae Wells and Sylvia (Anthony) Wells Rogers, both of Turbeville; three loving sons, Joseph (Dorothy) Wells of Bridgeport, Conn., Leroy (Elsie) Wells of Mayesville and Willie (Jonelle) Wells of Sumter; three adopted sisters, Alice (James) Grant of Columbia, Rosa Lee Black of Miami, Fla., and Julia Young of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Clara Bell McKenzie of Lynchburg; one adopted brother, Manning (Teresa) Chapman of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Clyde Reardon of Miami; two aunts, Carrie Kennedy of New Zion and Mary Chapman of Rembert; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Howard Chapel AME Church, Old Manning Road, New Zion, with the Rev. Alfred Bradley, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Jerome McCray and Edward Roberts and Minister Curtis Martin.
Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

Lizzie Mae Felder
Lizzie Mae Felder died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
She was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Clarendon County. She was a daughter of the late Rev. William Felder and Millie Wilson Felder and stepdaughter of the late Della Felder. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Mount Calvary FBH Church and later she joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as mother of the church and on the missionary society and in any capacity needed. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
She is survived by four daughters, Pearlene (Hayward) Cubbage, Evelyn Felder and Annie Mae (Melvin) Montgomery, all of Manning, and Ester (Harry) Sumpter of Brooklyn,
N.Y.; companion, Alma Pringle; two brothers, Willie Felder of Troy,
N.Y., and Henry (Shirley) Felder of Manning; two sisters, Barbara A. Hilton of Manning and Inez Felder of
New York,
N.Y.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Mount Calvary FBH Church, Boyce Street, Manning, with the Rev. Dennis Jeffcoat, presiding, and Elder James MacFarland, eulogist.
Burial followed in the Manning Cemetery.
