Marie D. Webster
Marie Demorest Webster, 76, widow of Donald Lee Webster, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Regency Hospital in Florence.
Born July 19, 1928, in Jeanette, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Elsa Vesco Demorest. She was of the Catholic faith. Surviving are three daughters, Janice (Daniel) Cortez of Manning, Donna Webster of Manning and Kim (Jamie) Weatherford of Darlington; a son, Daniel Dougl
as (Marlene) Barnhart of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private services were held on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004.

Sampson Bowman
Sampson “Sammie” Bowman, 87, husband of Ella Johnson Bowman, died Nov. 6, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
Born April 22, 1917, in the Davis Crossroads section of Summerton, he was a son of the late Arthur Bowman and Corine McCray Bowman. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was a lifelong member of Fourth Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully. He was a farmer and did construction work for Fred Ardis Construction Co.
Survivors besides his wife, Ella J. Bowman of the home, include two stepsons, John Johnson and Leslie “Snoddie” (Elizabeth) Heyward, both of Manning; two brothers, James (Susie) Bowman of Sumter and Ernest (Lillie) Bowman of Miami; a stepbrother, Johnny Wilson of Miami; three sisters, Susan Garis of Manning, Luetisher (James) Goings of Sumter and Betty Ann Jordan of St. Louis; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Fourth Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, Manning, with the Rev. G.K. Carter, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. Henry McCray and evangelist Sarah Miller.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Agnes M. Dunlap
Agnes M. Dunlap, 86, widow of Dewey J. Dunlap, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at a local nursing center.
Born in Marlboro County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Mathis and the late Dessie Mathis.
She was a member of First Southern Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Annie Laurie McLeod of Paxville, Nancy Brabham of Olar and Linda Lewis of Pinewood; a sister, Virginia Reynolds of Cedarstown, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert White.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.

Mary Morgan Lewis Dunn
Mary Morgan Lewis Dunn, 89, died, Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Mariner Healthcare West.
Ms. Dunn was born May 2, 1915, the daughter of the late William Morgan Lewis and Anna Ruth Toucherry of Manning. She was a graduate of the Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing, did post-graduate work at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She was on the staff at John Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland, and the National Institute of Health. She also served as captain in the Army Nurses Association, American Legion Post 15 and Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are: two sisters, Ruth Lewis Reardon and Esther Lewis Reynolds Eldridge; one brother, Edward Thomas Lewis and his wife Kathryn; two sisters-in-law, Loye Strange Lewis and Gloria Herlong Lewis.
She was proceeded in death by two sisters, Louise Lewis Bradham, and Martha Lewis; and two brothers, William Morgan Lewis Sr. and John Benjamin Lewis Sr.
A private family memorial service was held in Manning, officiated by the Rev. William Morgan Lewis.

Jim Henry Galloway
Jim Henry Galloway, 73, widower of Helen Parrish Galloway, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at his home.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward Galloway and the late Elease Ward Galloway. Mr. Galloway was a retired painter.
Surviving are three sisters, Sallie Mae Barkley and Margie G. Geddings, both of Sumter, and Frances G. Thurston of Manning; a stepdaughter, Misty Parrish of Barnwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph M. Galloway, Harts Galloway and Thomas Galloway; and a sister, Sadie Hodge.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Turner officiating.

Ellison Lawson Sr.
Ellison “Bo Dyson” Lawson Sr., age 81, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Kershaw Medical Center, Camden.
Born on Oct. 9, 1923, he was a son of Susan Dyson. He was the widower of Katie Mathis Lawson. He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he accepted Christ and became a member of Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Marines.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sara Nickerson and Susie Lawson.
Those who remain to grow from his love include two sons, Ellison (Christine) Lawson Jr. of Camden and Daniel E. (Lorraine) Lawson of Fayetteville, N.C.; three daughters, Carrie Garnett of Suitland, Md., Julia Lawson of Summerton and Luvenia (Jonathan) Hall of Springdale, Md.; three grandchildren, whom he reared as his own, Jacob E. (Debbie) Lawson of Savannah, Ga., Lt. Lashean Lawson of Warner Robbins Air Force Base, Macon, Ga., and Shenika N. Lawson of Springdale, Md.; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of other close relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, with the Rev. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

I. Russell Logan Jr.
OLANTA – Ira Russell Logan Jr., age 55, died Nov. 10, 2004, at his residence after an illness.
Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Ira “Buck” Russell Logan Sr. and Nolia Parnell Logan. Mr. Logan was the owner and operator of Russell’s Barber Shop in Olanta. He was a former member of the National Guard. He was a graduate of the Capital Barber School and was the past president of the South Carolina Barber Board. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the Sportsman Hunting Club, The National Fox Hunters Association, and was recently inducted into the South Carolina Fox Hunters Hall of Fame. He was a former board member of the Olanta Business Association, where he served as past president. He was a Mason and a member of Fidelity Lodge No. 394.
Surviving are two daughters, Julie Ann Logan of La Jolla, Calif., and Carole Anne (Randy) Bradshaw of Manning; a son, Christopher Russell Logan of Cheraw; three sisters, Linda L. Green of Florence, Terry L. (Frank) White of Florence and Tammy Smith of Turbeville; one brother, Larry (Dale) Logan of Lynchburg; two grandchildren; Madison Alexis White and Christopher Mason Logan.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Burial followed in Tabernacle Cemetery.

Reese S. Miles
SCRANTON – The Rev. Reese S. Miles, 75, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence, after an illness.
Rev. Miles was born in Florence County, a son of the late Bob and Carrie Kirby Miles. He was a graduate of Emmanuel College, Franklin Springs, Ga., with further studies at the University of Georgia. He was an ordained minister of the South Carolina Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church Inc. He pastored the following churches from 1953 to 1998: Willow Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church, Florence; Matthews Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lake City; Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Sumter; Lancaster First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lancaster; Socastee Pentecostal Holiness Church, Myrtle Beach; Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Pamplico; and had served as interim pastor from 2000 to 2004 for Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lake City. He served on the conference board for 21 years and served on the general board of education and the general finance board for the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Anderson Miles of Scranton; four daughters, Gloria (the Rev. Mark) Evans of Scranton, Rhetta (the Rev. Ed) Hanna of Turbeville, Marcia M. Ramsey and Nelwyn Miles, both of Florence; four sisters, Buena McAllister of Scranton, Rose Kent of Myrtle Beach, Emmie Coker of Turbeville and Barbara Davis of Florence; and five grandchildren, Matthew D. Evans, Joshua Evans, Daniel Evans, all of Scranton, Meredith Hanna and Whitman Reese Hanna, both of Turbeville.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Miles and Sam Miles; one sister, Carrie Mae Godwin; and a granddaughter, Dana Michelle Ramsey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in the Robinson Memorial Auditorium with burial in the Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.

Rena B. Nelson
Rena Barron Nelson, 77, widow of Samuel Edgar Nelson, Jr., died Thursday, November 11, 2004, in Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born April 7, 1927, in Rock Hill, she was a daughter of the late Joel Barry and Mildred Green Barron. She was a 1948 graduate of Winthrop College, a member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church, and a retired schoolteacher having taught at Manning Primary School, Christian Academy and Laurence Manning Academy.
Surviving are a son, Samuel Edgar Nelson, III, of Gable; a daughter, Rena Ann Nelson Skinner of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Elizabeth Barron Bynum of Rock Hill; two grandsons, Zane Nicholas Skinner and Jordan David Skinner.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in New Harmony Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Gordon K. Reed officiating, assisted by the Rev. John R. Dodd.
Burial followed in the DuRant Cemetery.

Mary Ballard Webber, 80, widow of Curtis Webber, died Nov. 10, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born July 17, 1924, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Harper Ballard and Virginia Nelson Ballard.
She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. Early in life, she accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Antioch UME Church.
Survivors include one son, Dallas C. Webber, of Landover, Md.; four daughters, Shirley M. Bell, Dorothy R. Brown, Mary A. Joseph, all of Bronx, N.Y., and Kanzora W. Robinson of Pinewood; two sons-in-law, James Brown and Melvin Joseph Sr.; one brother, Jimmie R. Ballard of Rimini; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by one son, Rannie Webber; two brothers, Louis and Manning Ballard; and one sister, Virginia B. Plater.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Antioch UME Church.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
