Kimaneh A. Pompey-Brown
Kimaneh Asante Pompey-Brown, 26 days old, son of Tammey D. Brown and Johnny A. Pompey, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.
He was born July 1, 2004, in Manning.
Survivors besides his mother of Manning and father of Sumter include paternal grandparents, Johnny and Elease R. Pompey of Greeleyville; maternal grandparents, Marjorie Cooper Brown and the late Frankie Brown of Greeleyville; paternal great-grandparents, Flora J. Pompey of Greeleyville and Isaac Montgomery of St. Stephen; godparents, Hardy (the Rev. Annette) Ragin of Manning; godfather, Wayne Ragin of Sumter; and two sisters, Ka’Mangeneh Z. Ragin and Sy’Andeneh T. Ragin of Manning.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 30, 2004, at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Annette Ragin officiating.
Burial was in McGill Cemetery in Kingstree.

Alston Nimmons
Alston Herbert “Al” Nimmons, 80, husband of Carolyn Kilpatrick Nimmons, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born Sept. 8, 1923, in Anderson, he was a son of the late Furman and Mary Hulme Nimmons. He was a retired private investigator, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving besides his wife of Summerton are a daughter, Sandra (Dean) Watt of Anderson; two sons, Michael (Jean) Nimmons and of Anderson and Jerry Nimmons of Anderson; a stepson, Michael Cochran of Conway; a sister, Dorothy Bolton of Anderson; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Sullivan-King Mortuary in Anderson.

Lois H. Leviner
WINNSBORO – Mrs. Lois H. Leviner, 85, widow of John Lindsay Leviner, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004.
Born in Athens, Ga., April 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late W.R. and Malure Price Hames. She was a member of Stephen Greene Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Dr. John Lindsay Leviner Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Kathy L. Waters of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Myers Leviner of Turbeville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Billie Chup of Charleston, Mary Mullins of Dunwoodie, Ga., Althea Burroughs of Simpsonville and Betty Bailey and Bobbie Truesdale, both of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Porter of Columbia; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Hames of Lexington.
She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Larry Leviner.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro, conducted by the Rev. James P. Blackwelder.
Burial was in Stephen Greene Memorial Garden.
William P. Milligan
The Rev. William Prestley Milligan, 91, of Manning, died on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in Greenville.
Born Dec. 13, 1912, in Northern Ireland, he immigrated with his family to the United States in July, 1955.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ivy Logan Milligan; a daughter, Phyllis Milligan; and a son, William Prestley Milligan Jr. The Rev. and Mrs. Milligan were married for 67 years.
Rev. Milligan served as a minister with the South Carolina conference of the United Methodist Church. He served charges in Olar, Greenwood, Graniteville, Manning and Andrews before making Manning his retirement home.
Surviving are two sons, William Lloyd Milligan of Isle of Palms and David Howard Milligan of Greenville; a brother, Richard Milligan of Northern Ireland; a sister, Dora Morrison of Northern Ireland; four grandchildren, Kerry Lynn Welti of Columbia, Michael David Milligan of Columbia, Erin Milligan Harmon of Mount Pleasant and William Lloyd Milligan II of Isle of Palms; a daughter-in-law, Laura Morris Milligan of Greenville; and nieces and nephews in Northern Ireland.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in Manning United Methodist Church. The Revs. Jerry Watson and Debra Quilling officiated.
Burial followed in Clarendon Memorial Gardens in Manning.

William Brock Jr.
GREELEYVILLE – William “Buster” Brock Jr., 86, husband of Alma Witherspoon Brock, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in Greeleyville.
Born April 7, 1918, in the Live Oak section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late William Brock Sr. and Mary Bracey Brock.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church of Sardinia. After moving to Greeleyville, he became a member of St. Luke Baptist.
He was also a member of the NAACP Manning branch and Brotherly Love Masonic Lodge No. 99. He was a sharecrop farmer for many years and he worked at Campbell Soup Co. for five years.
Survivors besides his wife, Alma W. Brock of the home, include five sons, William Brock III of Orlando, Fla., James Brock of Sumter, Dan Brock and Joe (Mary) Brock, both of New York City, Robert (Gertie) Brock of Grayson, Ga.; one daughter, Joan (Hollis) Landrum of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother; four sisters; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Cokley Richburg officiating, assisted by the Rev. Annette Ragin.
Burial followed in the Hunter Cemetery, Old River Road, Greeleyville.

Cornell Chandler
Cornell Chandler, 67, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, in Turbeville.
He was born Oct. 14, 1936, in the Turbeville section of Clarendon County.
He was a son of the late James Chandler and Emma Jane Gamble Chandler. He received his first formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a lifelong farmer.
Survivors include four sons, Scottie Chandler of the home, Timothy Chandler of Philadelphia, and Otis and Ricky Chandler; four sisters, Sadie Hampton and Inez McDowell, both of Lynchburg, Mary Jeter of Turbeville and Lula Bell Epps of Shiloh; and a grandson, Chadrell C. Arthur of Shiloh.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 in the Hayes F. Samuels Memorial Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. Andrew Gamble, officiating.

Gwen H. Kinsey
Gwen Holden Kinsey, 60, widow of Haskell William Kinsey Sr., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at her home.
Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late John Holden and the late Sarah Moore Holden of Manning.
Survivors include a son, John K. Kinsey and his wife, Karen, of Sumter; two grandsons, Britton Kinsey and Michael Kinsey, both of Sumter; and a special friend, Martha Hensley of Sumter.
Services for Mrs. Kinsey were held privately.

D. Tracy Lockhart
Darrell Tracy Lockhart, 40, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born May 12, 1964, in Iaeger, W.Va., he was a son of Darrell Edward Lockhart and Irene Justice Bennett. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving besides his mother of Summerton and father of Bluewell, W.Va., are a son, Darrell Lee Church of Princeton, W.Va.; a brother, Timmy Lockhart of Hodges; two sisters, Gloria Marshall of Welch, W.Va., and Tammy Hodge of Greeleyville; three nieces; and four nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton, W.Va.
Burial followed in Roselawn Cemetery.

Margaret U. Pence
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Margaret Elizabeth Ussery Pence, 87, Rockingham, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.
She was born Nov. 6, 1916, in Rockingham, N.C., a daughter of Annie Lee and John Ernest Ussery. She was a housewife. Mrs. Pence was an avid reader and gardener who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Pleasant Hour Home Extension Club and, in 1977, was honored for 50 years of service to that club.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jane McCall (David) of Hamlet and Mrs. Marcella (David) Jenkins of Summerton; four sons, Frank (Shirley) Pence and Bill (Kim) Pence of Rockingham, Nick (Margie) Pence of Newton, N.C., and John (Belinda) Pence of Middlesex, N.C.; one sister, Jennie Ruth Tellez of Roseville, Calif.; four brothers, John Everette Ussery of Southern Pines, N.C., Robert Marshall Ussery of Elizabethtown, N.C., Earl Walker Ussery of Bel Air, Md., and Thomas Hearn Ussery of Rockingham; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Robert F. Pence Jr. in 1993; and her brother, William McPhail “Mac” Ussery in 1994.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet with the Rev. Shirley Hutchins and the Rev. Nicholas Lee Pence Jr. officiating.
Burial followed at Richmond Memorial Park.

Evelyn D. Smith
Mrs. Evelyn Driggers Smith, age 94, died Aug. 19, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Born in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Camlin Driggers and Maggie Coker Driggers. She was retired from S.C. Public Schools Food Service. She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Smith; two sons; a daughter; two grandsons; one granddaughter; a son-in-law; and brothers and sisters.
Surviving are four daughters, Sybil (Earl) Gowdy of Cades, Frankie (Garland) Baxley and Myra Byrd (David) Nesbitt, both of Turbeville, and Edith (Michael) Ater of McKees Rocks, Pa.; five sons, Don (Laurita) Smith of Turbeville, Jack (Diane) Smith of Rock Hill, David (Andy) Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., James Hugh (Jean) Smith of Tampa, Fla., and Cecil (Sandy) Smith of Sumter; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
