Evelyn C. White
Evelyn Corbett White, 81, widow of Arthur White, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Aug. 15, 1921 in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Olive DuBose Corbett. She was a retired seamstress, and a member of the Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church Senior Citizen’s Group.
Survivors include a daughter, Loraine Bagnal and husband, Bubba, of Manning; a son, James Tucker of Manning; four sisters, Leola Cox and Bessie Webb of North Charleston, Ethel Miles of Summerville and Lillian Grubbs of Lexington; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virgie Varner and Iley Boney; and two brothers, Joseph Corbett and Ervin Corbett.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. C.S. Salter officiating.
Burial followed in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Randy Eaddy, Ike Baughman, Mike Baughman, David Morgan, David Webb and Robert Strange.
Memorials may be made to Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
Pearline M. Young
CLARKSON, Ga. – Pearline Mellerson Young, 39, wife of Perry Young Sr., died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at her residence in Clarkson,
Georgia.
Born Nov. 10, 1969, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late James Cubbage Sr. and Maggie Mae Mellerson Cubbage. She received her formal education in the public schools of Dade County, Maimi, Fla. She graduated from Manning High School in 1987. After graduation, she joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. She received an associate degree from Carolina Technical College. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Green Hill AME Church and later joined Zion Temple FBH Church, where she was an active member until her health failed.
She is survived by her husband, Perry Young Sr. of Clarkson; four children, two daughters, Ashley Young and Alyshia Young, and two sons, Perry Leo Young Jr. and Anthony Mellerson of the home; two sisters, Carolyn Patterson and Carolyn (Albertus) Sweat, both of Manning; and five brothers, William Patrick Mellerson of Miami, Ernest Mellerson, James Cubbage III, Hayward (Pearline) Cubbage and Tyrone Cubbage, all of Manning.
A emorial services was held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning, with Bishop Willie Cubbage officiating, the Rev. Patrick Mellerson presiding, assisting Pastor Shelia Smith and Pastor Ocelia Blue.
Burial followed in the Goodwill Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.

Deron Rashaun Hilton
After a short illness, Deron Rashaun Hilton exchanged time for eternity on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Manning on Jan. 12, 1985, he was a son of JoAnn Hilton-Deas and Edward Servance and stepson of Robert Deas and Phillip Billie.
He was a graduate of Manning High School’s Class of 2003. He furthered his education at the University of
South Carolina Sumter and was taking ministry classes at Enon Missionary Baptist Church. Shaun accepted Christ at age 12 and continued to live this life until his passing. He attended Mount Calvary FBH Church and later joined Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Alcolu. Prior to his employment with Clarendon School District 2, he was employed with Athlete’s Foot in
Georgia. He enjoyed writing, taking pictures and coordinating projects such as weddings and family reunions.
He is survived by his mother, JoAnn Hilton-Deas; father, Edward Servance; stepfathers, Robert Deas and Phillip Billie; brothers, Dernell R. Hilton and Dominique Hilton; maternal grandmother, Essie Hilton; four aunts, Rosa M. Hilton, Doris Hilton, Cherere D. Hilton and Stacie Salters; five uncles, Kenneth (Mary) Hilton, Michael (Andrea) Hilton, Mack Hilton Jr., Carlos (Angela) Hilton and Harold (Janie) Whack; and an adopted sister, Shantel Canady.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mack Hilton Sr. and his paternal grandparents, Moses Servance and Mable Servance.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Alcolu with Bishop Allen H. Simmons officiating and assisted by the Revs. James S. Hudley, pastor, Curtis Cantey, W.J. Frierson, Michael Richburg and Ethel Sweat.
Burial was in Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

N.Y. – Emma Jones, 67, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at her residence.
Born April 25, 1940, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Lucille McFadden Jones. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School.
Survivors include her children, Anthony K. Durant, Lewis L. Durant, Kymberlea L. Durant, Wanda L. (John) Durant, Christopher E. Durant and Taquia J. Durant; two sisters, Alfreda Harris of Rochester,
N.Y., and Geneva Covington of Sumter; a brother, Fred (Jerrildine) Jones of Sumter; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Durant.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in the parlor of Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter with the Rev. James Hudley officiating.
Burial was in Mayesville Cemetery.

Z’Marius Jacquell Frazier
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Little Master Z’Marius Jacquell Frazier, 5 months, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at his home in Sumter.
Born July 4, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning, he was the son of Courtney Jones and Leroy Frazier.
Survivors include his parents, Courtney Jones of Sumter and Leroy Frazier of Salters; two brothers, Jeremiah Z. Frazier and Jomarion Frazier, both of Kingstree; maternal grandparents, Bobby Hickman of Norwalk, Conn., and Shari Gladny of Colorado Springs,
Colo.; paternal grandparents, Yvonne Frazier and Leroy Davis, both of Salters; maternal great-grandparents, Paul and Frances Beaufort of Alcolu; godmother, Dr. Jacquelyn Law of Sumter; a special aunt, Robin Beaufort of Alcolu; special caretaker, Beverly Briggs of Sumter; several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Harmony Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Alcolu, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton officiating.

Maggie Lee Alsbrook, 86, widow of Lewis Cole Alsbrook, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at her home in Manning.
Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Thomas James and Leila Fair Shepherd Cutter. She was a retired seamstress from Manning Manufacturing and a member of Jordan United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Colleen (J.C.) Bochette, Elaine (David) Casselman and Phyllis (Neil) Beard, all of Manning; a son, Lynn Coleman (Lenora) Alsbrook of Jemez Springs, N.M.; a sister, Mary Ella Windham Moorer of Columbia; a brother, Joe Cutter of Manning; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, T.J. Cutter, Moses Cutter, Ben Cutter and Thomas Cutter; and three sisters, Maude Childers, Lucy Bodenheimer and Ethel Ward.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. DeVere Williams officiating.
Burial followed in Jordan United Methodist Church cemetery.

Barbara Johnson
Barbara Johnson, 49, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at her residence in Clarendon County.
Born July 15, 1958 in Newark, N.J., she was a daughter of Franklin Johnson Sr. and the late Bertha Johnson. She received her high school diploma from Barringer High School in Newark. Barbara was employed by Green Hill Retirement Home, where she worked until she relocated to
South Carolina. She gained employment at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter and later at Comfort Inn.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Lynelle Johnson, and a brother, Albertis Lawson.
Those left to grow from her love are her beloved father, Franklin Johnson Sr. of the home; two sons, Rodrick Johnson of Newark and Darrel (Tesha) Hall of Orange, N.J.; a brother, Franklin (Patricia) Johnson Jr. of Sumter; two sisters, Celestine Bethea and Karima Abdul-Latif; 10 grandchildren, Darrell Jr., Nzingha, Eeyannah, Durian, Daria, Jahir, Taliya, Gregory, Symone and Essence (Noodles); a lifetime friend, Barbara Carr; a devoted uncle, Tyrone “Junior” Lawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Barbara Johnson were held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Jerome Capers, pastor, officiating.

Winnie Lou F. Stephens
Winnie Lou Floyd Stephens, 84, widow of John Kelly Stephens Sr., died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Barrineau, she was a daughter of the late Ander and Leola Hanniford Floyd. She was a member of Clarendon Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Watford of Darlington and Linda Browder of Alcolu; three sons, Gerald Stephens of Sumter, Ricky Stephens of North Charleston and Emmett Stephens of Florence; a sister, Willa Mae McAllister of Pamplico; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Ernest Sessions officiating.
Burial followed in Manning Cemetery.
