Glenna McNeill
Glenna Garner McCormick McNeill, 34, wife of Robert C. McNeill Jr., died Thursday, October 25, 2001, in Orangeburg.
Born August 28, 1967, in Huntsville, Ala., she was the daughter of Billy Joe Garner and Irma Jewell White Ellis. She was a graduate of Westside Christian Academy in Laurinburg, N.C., and Hyles Anderson College in
Indiana. She was the office manager of Lake Marion Primary Care, and was a member of Summerton Baptist Church. She was first married to the late David Mark McCormick.
Survivors besides her husband of Summerton include a son, David Mark McCormick; a stepdaughter, Ansley McNeill; a brother, Burley Garner; and a sister, Starlene Garner.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Joseph Ellis.
Services were 11 a.m. Monday at Summerton Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.
Burial followed in Hillside Cemetery in Laurinburg.

Mary H. Scott
Mary Esther Hair Scott, 79, widow of Willie “Dock” Scott, died Saturday, October 27, 2001, at her home in Paxville.
Born Nov. 3, 1921, in Wedgefield, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ila Geddings Hair. She was a member of Paxville Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Cecil G. “Lucky” Scott of Paxville; a daughter, Mary Victoria “Vicky” Carrigan of Sumter; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scottie Scott.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Revs. Richard Hudson and Gene Mosier officiating.
Burial followed in Paxville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Thomas G. Carrigan, Lawrence G. Carrigan, Anthony S. Carrigan, William Scott, Steven B. Cantey and Bubba Prescott. Honorary pallbearers were Wade McLeod, Wayne Scott, Henry F. Griffin and Stanley Scott.

George E. Welch
George E. “Dickie” Welch, 61, died Saturday, October 27, 2001, after a brief illness.
Born in Georgetown County, he was the son of the late George Dargan Welch and Katie Langston Welch. He was a truck driver for Woerner Turf East Inc. and was a member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wilaree Beard Welch of Turbeville; three daughters, Lisa Poston and her husband, Dave, of Silverdale, Lourie Gibbons and her husband, David, and Rita Welch of Turbeville; a sister, Josephine Dawson of Mountain City, Tenn.; four brothers, Gareth Welch of Pensacola, Fla., Alvy Welch of Turbeville, R.J. Welch of Summerville and Francis Welch of Scranton; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. Welch; and a brother, Morrell Welch.
Services were 3 p.m. Tuesday at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Willia Mae Williams
LAS VEGAS — Willia Mae Williams, 55, died Monday, October 22, 2001, at her home.
Born Dec. 4, 1945, in the Foreston community, she was the daughter of Edward Williams and the late Susie Mae Dukes Williams.
She attended the public schools of Clarendon County and joined St. Luke Baptist Church as a youth. She was a member of Sunday school and Junior Choir. She was retired from St. Mary Hospital in
Nevada.
Survivors besides her father include two sons, Danny Williams and David Williams of Troy,
N.Y.; a daughter, Ruby Patricia Newell of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Dorothy Mae Lemon of Atlanta, and Rosa Lee Rodgers and Mary Catherine Simon of Manning.
Services were 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Baptist Church in Greeleyville with the Rev. Sam Miller officiating.
Robert S. Barwick Jr.
Robert S. “Butch” Barwick Jr., 60, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001, at his home.
Born Sept. 17, 1941, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Robert S. Barwick Sr. and Meddie Mitchell Barwick. He was a 1960 graduate of Edmunds High School.
Survivors include two brothers, Clint Barwick of Sumter and Steven Barwick and his wife, Donna, of Sumter; two nephews, Martin and Jeremy of Charleston; and a number of other family members.
Services were 10 a.m. Saturday in Sumter Cemetery with his uncle, the Rev. T.W. Mitchell, officiating.
Memorials may be made to Ashwood Nazarene Church.
Oscar Dobson
LYNCHBURG - Oscar Dobson, 85, widower of Clara Mouzon Dobson, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.
Born on Aug. 10, 1916, in Wilmington, N.C., he was the son of the late Joe Dobson and Martha Lee Dobson. He attended Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta. He received his formal education in the public schools of Wilmington and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Donnie Dobson of New Zion and Thomas Lee Dobson of Lynchburg; two daughters, Lucinda McDowell and Mary Rose of Lynchburg; three brothers, Robert Dobson, Raymond Dobson and George Dobson; two sisters, Ida Dobson and Mary Dobson; 27 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Dobson.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at The Way of Life Church of Jesus Christ with Bishop Larry Dobson, pastor, officiating and Elders A.R. Rose, Lawrence McElveen and Bobby Williams assisting.
Burial followed in Grooms Cemetery.
Rufus T. Dowe
Rufus Tony Dowe, 81, husband of Emma James Dowe, died Saturday, November 3, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1920, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late David and Mary Brailsford Dowe. He attended Clarendon County public schools and in his youth, joined Mt. Pleasant UME Church in Pinewood. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines and, after being honorably discharged, worked for many years in the construction field before retiring.
Survivors besides his wife include four sons, Samuel Dowe and Michael Dowe of Detroit, Mich., Archie Torian of Hartsville and Michael James of Darlington; four daughters, Cynthia Dowe and Carolyn Dowe James of Detroit, and Andrea Green and Toni Mitchell of Pinewood; four brothers, Lewis Dowe of Wilmington, and the Rev. William Dowe, John C. Dowe and Clyde Dowe of Pontiac, Mich.; four sisters, Gussie Hodge and Dorothy Turner of Pontiac and Willie Mae McCollough and Carolyn Chatman of Livingston,
Texas; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul A. Dowe; two brothers, Johnny Lee Dowe and Sam Dowe; and a sister, Camilla Baker.
Services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant UME Church with the Revs. James Robinson, pastor, Roosevelt Boyd, Jonathan Smith, Willie Green and William Dowe officiating.
Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Kinsey Black Jones Kinsey Black Jones
COLUMBIA - Kinsey Black Jones, 30, wife of Franklin Matthew Jones, died Friday, November 9, 2001, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.
Born Nov. 8, 1971, in Sumter, she was the daughter of James Cleveland Black Sr. and Nellie Kinsey Black. She graduated from the University of
South Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Inter-Disciplinary Studies and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a kindergarten teacher at Hammond School, a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, a former member of Manning United Methodist Church and the Junior League of Columbia.
Survivors besides her husband of Columbia and her parents of Manning include two brothers, James C. Black and his wife, Theresa, of Greensboro, N.C. and Jeffrey T. Black and his wife, Stephanie, of Manning; paternal grandmother, Vivian Geddings Black of Manning; and five nieces and nephews.
Services were 3 p.m. Monday at Manning United Methodist Church with Dr. James C. Adams and the Rev. Ron Pettit officiating.
Burial followed in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Billy Coffey, Tommy Cooper, Doug Cousar, Mutt Bozard, Tommy Benton, John Land, Mike Balthazor and Buddy Lester.

Eunice Steven Thames, 89, widow of Murray S. Thames, died Saturday, November 3, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Manning.
Born March 27, 1912, in Lake Waccamaw, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James and Emma Martin Stevens. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James, and his wife, Carolyn Thames of Manning; a daughter, Frances, and her husband, J.D. Jones of Manning; a brother, Jim Stevens of Charleston; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Ashley Brunson officiating.
Burial followed in Wilson Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Miriam Kinlaw-Tilson
LEXINGTON - Miriam Juanita Kinlaw-Tilson, 62, of Lexington, wife of Lee Von Tilson, died Monday, November 5, 2001.
Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Carl Richard and Lucille Mitchum Kinlaw. She was a member of Lynchburg Baptist Church and was employed by the Presbyterian Home in West Columbia.
Survivors besides her husband of
Georgia include a son, Carl Lee Tilson of Lexington; four brothers, Jimmy Kinlaw of Turbeville, Johnny Kinlaw of Bishopville, Roy Kinlaw of Goose Creek and Ed Kinlaw of Sumter; and four sisters, Dianne Rogers and Portia Welch of Lynchburg, Janice Kinlaw of Manning and Virginia Locklair of
Georgia.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Kinlaw.
Services were 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia with the Rev. Joe Reed officiating.
