THOMAS MCKERNAN
Thomas McKernan, 35, of Crestview Drive, Westerly, died Sept. 3, 2003.
He was the son of Edward L. McKernan of Westerly and the late Mary (Hogan) McKernan.
Born in New Haven, Conn., he graduated from Manchester High School with the class of '86.
He had been employed in the beverage department at Foxwoods Resort Casino. He was a member of The Westerly Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. #678, and he enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Edward G. and Stacy McKernan of Bradford; a sister, Maureen Senical of Pawcatuck; three nephews and two nieces.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. There will be a procession from the funeral home Thursday at 9:15 a.m. to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Church Street, Bradford at 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, Conn.
The family requests that donations in Tom's memory be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, Route 216, Bradford, RI 02808 in lieu of flowers.
MARY ANN URSO
Mary Ann (Perri) Urso, resident of The Clipper Home, 161 Post Road, Westerly, and wife of the late Michael J. Urso Sr., died Sept. 10, 2003, at the Clipper Home.
Mrs. Urso was born in Calabria, Italy, daughter of the late Pasquale and Domenica (Gencarella) Perri.
She had been employed at the George C. Moore Company as a weaver for 35 years, retiring in the early 1970s.
She is survived by two sons, Natale A. Urso and State Police Ret. Major Michael J. Urso Jr., both of Westerly; a daughter, Eleanor (Urso) Knowles of Pawcatuck; a brother, Ralph Perri of Westerly; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Perri and James Perri; six sisters, Lucy Morrone, Frances Murano, Angeline Scaglione, Rose Toscano, Mary Capalbo, and Bomina Fuscaldo.
Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Clare, St. Clare Way, Misquamicut. There is no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.

JOHN A. TURCO
John A. Turco, beloved husband of Michelle (Bruno) Turco, of 126 West Broad St., Pawcatuck, died suddenly at The Westerly Hospital on Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at age 37.

BARBARA A. SEERY
Barbara A. (Staplin) Seery, 56, beloved wife for 35 years of William J. Seery of Wyassup Road, North Stonington, died peacefully at home, Sept. 17, 2003, surrounded by her family and friends.
Mrs. Seery was born in Westerly, daughter of the late Percy and Rose (DiMaggio) Staplin.
She had been employed for 35 years at Electric Boat Division General Dynamics and held the position of staff assistant when she retired in 2001.
Mrs. Seery was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Pawcatuck, and had volunteered at the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and her greatest passion in life was her two grandchildren.
In addition to her husband in North Stonington, she also leaves a daughter, Rachael J. Seery-Hersant, and son-in-law, D. Park Hersant, of New London; an aunt, Anna DiMaggio of Pawcatuck; and two grandchildren, William Seery-Hersant and Victoria Seery-Hersant, both of New London.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Liberty St., Pawcatuck. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
EILEEN M. MERCURIO
Eileen M. (Kenyon) Mercurio, 46, of 1115 Main St., Hope Valley, died Thursday evening at Miriam Hospital in Providence, after an extended illness. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Mercurio.
Eileen was born in South Kingstown, on June 2, 1957, the daughter of the late Ray and Elizabeth (Doolin) Kenyon.
Mrs. Mercurio had been a bus driver for the former Galloway Bus Lines for several years, and before her illness she was employed at American Power Conversion in South Kingstown.
Eileen was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Downey Weaver Post of the American Legion in Charlestown.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Angela Barnes of West Warwick and Angelo Mercurio of Hope Valley; and her grandchildren, Diana Mercurio and Emily Barnes. She also leaves four brothers, Dwight Kenyon of Hope Valley, Dennis Kenyon of Warwick, William Kenyon of California, and Raymond Kenyon of Washington; and three sisters, Elizabeth Brown of Richmond, Estelle Roberts of Richmond, and Ellen Palmer of Charlestown. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Mercurio.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. in the White Brook Cemetery, Pine Hill Road, Richmond. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

WALTER J. KING
Walter J. King, former husband of Jessie (Ahern) King, died at his home at the Village Lane Apartments, Poquonnock Road, Groton, on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.

CYRUS NORTHROP MORGAN
Cyrus Northrop Morgan, of Misquamicut Hills, Westerly, longtime mathematics teacher at Westerly High School and Stonington High School, decorated World War II veteran and community leader, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at home surrounded by his family. He was in his 84th year.
Born in Stamford, Conn., on Sept. 27, 1919, he was the third son of Henry Ayer and Enid (Northrop) Morgan. He grew up in Longmeadow, Mass., summering in Misquamicut since 1920.
He was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School in 1938 and Williams College in 1942, where he was class president and captain of the football team. He received his master's degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1959.
Mr. Morgan served in World War II as a captain in the United States Marine Corps. He fought at Iwo Jima with the 5th Marine Division, earning the Bronze Star.
His mathematics teaching career spanned 32 years, first at Westerly High School, then at Stonington High School, where he was chairman of the mathematics department.
Active in the community for many years, Mr. Morgan served on the Westerly Board of Finance for 18 years, two as chairman. He was Misquamicut Fire District tax collector and treasurer for 32 years; vestryman at Christ Church in Westerly, serving as senior warden for two years. He was a member of the Misquamicut Volunteer Fire Department, Pondwatch, the Watch Hill Yacht Club, and treasurer of Literacy Volunteers of America.
Through his love of teaching, he made many friends and touched many people in his 84 years. He loved his family, the outdoors, his boat, lobstering, fishing, the ocean, cryptograms, a good political debate, and a good joke.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie (Preissner) Morgan; their three children and their spouses, Stephen Drew Morgan and Ruth Morgan of Hopkinton; Cynthia Morgan Jilling and Adam Jilling of Portsmouth, R.I.; Judith Morgan Cherenzia and F. Donald Cherenzia of Hopkinton; seven grandchildren, Cyrus I. Morgan and his wife, Monique, Ashley E. Morgan, Michael S. Jilling, Adam M. Jilling, Marissa A. Cherenzia, Jenna M. Cherenzia, and Katie A. Cherenzia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Gilbert N. Morgan and Donald A. Morgan.
A memorial service will be conducted at Christ Episcopal Church, 7 Elm St., Westerly, on Thursday at 4 p.m. Burial will be private. There are no visiting hours. The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic, is assisting the family. Chelsea Marion Shifflett and Trey Robert Shifflett
Chelsea Marion Shifflett and Trey Robert Shifflett, children of Wayne T. and Kimberly Hartley Shifflett of Preston, Conn., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, after being born prematurely earlier in the day.
They are survived by their maternal grandmother, Linda E. Russell of Ashaway; paternal grandparents, Curtis and Deborah Shifflett of Preston; maternal great-grandparents, Robert and Lila Hartley of Mystic and Zephyrhills, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
