DONALD TURO

Donald Turo, of William Street, Ashaway, died on Tuesday morning, July 1, 2003, at the Westerly Nursing Home.

Arrangements are pending and are under the direction of Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship St., Westerly.

DOROTHY WAGNER

Dorothy "Pinky" (Walker) Wagner formerly of Westerly and Naples, Fla., beloved wife of Burt Wagner and beloved mother of David Wagner, passed away in Coventry, July 1, 2003.

Funeral arrangements are being completed by Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly.

NANCY A. LUZZI

Nancy A. Luzzi 36, of 144 Central St in Narragansett, formerly of Westerly, passed away Wednesday evening July 2, 2003, at the Rhode Island Hospital.

She was born Sept. 11, 1966, in Acri, a township in Calabria, Italy, the beloved daughter of Angelo and Bombina Luzzi (Cofone) of Westerly.

Nancy was the founder of Water Works for Women, which contributed to The American Cancer Society, Susan B. Coleman Foundation, St. Jude's Hospital and numerous additional cancer research organizations.

She is survived by her son, John Angelo Luzzi. Other survivors include her six siblings: Federico Luzzi, Margaret Adams, Biagio Luzzi, Maria Kapfer, Joseph Luzzi and John Luzzi. Nancy will also be truly missed by her nieces and nephews: Lisa, Shannon, Tiffany, Bennett, Jennifer, Brinn, Jillian, Callhan, Joey, Robbie and Matthew. Nancy also is survived by her fiancé, Christopher Morris of Narragansett, R.I.

Nancy was a 1984 graduate of Westerly High School, where she played for the Lady Bulldogs Basketball team, which attained the state championship during her tenure on the team. She went on to work in the restaurant industry until she founded her business, Water Works for Women in 2000. Water Works for Women uses a portion of the proceeds collected through spring water sales to donate money to cancer research organizations.

Also in 2000, Nancy welcomed the light of her life, her son Johnny, into the world. Nancy enjoyed long walks on the beach with Johnny and her fiancé Chris, and the family time that they spent together at their home in Narragansett.

Nancy took pleasure in taking her nieces and nephews shopping, to the movies and out for special treats. Kickboxing and running on her treadmill were two of her other favorite pastimes.

Nancy was a devoted mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. All who came into her life will remember her love and generosity.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home on 59 Spruce St., Westerly. The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 111 High St., Westerly, and her burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery in Westerly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made under the name of Water Works for Woman at the Rhode Island Foundation in Providence.

APRIL NICOLE LAFOUNTAIN

April Nicole LaFountain, age 21, of 301 Buddington Road, Groton, fell asleep in death July 2 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital after a seven-year battle with cancer. She was born in Westerly, R.I., on April 12, 1982, the daughter of Anthony and Maryann Kenyon DeNobrega of Groton. She married John G. LaFountain, her best friend and childhood sweetheart, in Mystic, Conn., on May 12, 2001.

April is most remembered as having an unselfish love of people, allowing her to devote her life to Bible education work as a full-time minister with the Mystic Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her ability to light up the room with her smile despite any obstacle, as well as her quick wit and honesty, is what friends and family hold dear to their hearts.

Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by a brother, Alexander DeNobrega, a sister, Justine DeNobrega, both of Groton, and her grandparents, Arthur and Beatrice Kenyon of Pawcatuck, and Joseph and Esther DeNobrega of Groton. She has been lovingly supported by many immediate family members, as well as a large extended family of friends, who will miss her deeply.

April's family would like to extend their thanks to all those friends who offered their help and support, and The Make-A-Wish Foundation, which generously granted April's wish in 1999 to travel together with her family to Hawaii. They also thank the hospitals, their staffs and caregivers with Zoetron, who worked so hard to care for her needs.

A memorial service will be held on Monday evening, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mystic Marriott, Route 117, Groton. A reception will immediately follow the service. There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made directly to: April LaFountain Medical Assistance Fund, c/o Citizen's Bank, 816 Long Hill Road, Groton, CT 06340. Any additional monetary support given beyond medical expenses will be contributed by her family towards the worldwide voluntary Bible education work, which was most important to April.

Frank E. Genese

Frank E. Genese, 44 Westerly-Bradford Road, husband of the late Jeroldine (Murray) Genese, died Friday, July 04, 2003, at The Westerly Hospital. The Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

BURNIE (Cousin) GENCARELLI

Burnie M. (Cousin) Gencarelli, 81, of School Street in Westerly, died on Friday morning, July 4, 2003, at The Westerly Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Angelo A. Gencarelli Jr., founder of the Bess Eaton Donut Flour Company who died in 1982.

She leaves two sons and daughter-in-laws, Louis A. Gencarelli and Karen and Angelo A. Gencarelli III and Diane; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances Gencarelli Kirchon and Joseph P. Kirchon III; four grandsons, Louis and Paul Gencarelli and Joseph and Angelo Kirchon; three great-grandchildren, Louis, Allison and Corina Gencarelli; and a brother, Allard Vernon Cousin of Los Angeles.

She was pre-deceased by a sister, Virginia Mae Gigliello.

Mrs. Gencarelli was born in Birmingham, Ala., on May 15, 1922, the daughter of the late Victor and Frances Cousin and became a 60-year resident of Westerly. She was a member of St. Pius X Church, The Westerly Hospital Auxiliary, the Calabrese Club and the Winnapaug Golf League.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, from Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship St., Westerly, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Calling hours will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Gencarelli's name can be made to the Frank A. Olean Regional Center, 93 Airport Road, Westerly, RI 02891.

Avedis "Avie" "Coach" "John" Avedesian

Avedis "Avie" "Coach" "John" Avedesian, 75, of Waterman Avenue, Cranston, and Narragansett, died Tuesday at South County Hospital, Wakefield. He was the husband of Alice M. (Heditsian) Avedesian. They were married for 50 years.

Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Durtad and Turvanda (Eligian) Avedesian, he lived in Providence, moving to Cranston in 1969.

Mr. Avedesian graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1953 and was a member of Phi Mu Delta Fraternity. He received his master's degree in health and physical education from Boston University.

Mr. Avedesian was a teacher at Ponaganset High School for 28 years, retiring in 1989. While at Ponaganset High School he was the football and gymnastic coach. His energies were directed towards his beliefs that you could help young people develop their character, integrity and strength of commitment. He achieved these goals by using his strengths as a teacher, coach, mentor and volunteer.

Mr. Avedesian was a water safety instructor and Rhode Island State Lifeguard Surf Tester for the American Red Cross. He was a schoolboy football, basketball and baseball official for over 40 years.

From 1956 to 1975, he served at YMCA Camp Fuller-by-the-Sea as waterfront, program and assistant director. He focused on youth development and had the ability to give young people purpose to achieve, to develop their roots, and ultimately wings of self-worth.

He was a member of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church of Providence and served on its Parish Council and various committees. He was a member of the Knights of Vartan and of the Orpheus Masonic Lodge of Cranston.

He was a World War II Army veteran serving in Germany during the Army of Occupation.

Mr. Avedesian was an avid sports fan and a great influence on many young people's lives. He was a great advocate that youth should have a "good time" at all levels of sport. He felt that by combining sports and young people, one could teach many of life's lessons.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; David Avedesian of Rockville, Md., Haig Avedesian of Sedona, Az., and Ted Avedesian of Westerly; a daughter; Anahid Avedesian of Narragansett; dear father-in-law of Diana (Serra) and Mary Beth (Marrison) Avedesian; loving grandfather of Catherine and Gregory David Avedesian.

He was the brother of the late Satenig Goulet.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence. Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Avie Camp Fuller Scholarship Fund, c/o Washington Trust Bank, 23 Broad St., Westerly, RI 02891 or to Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Sunday School 70 Jefferson St., Providence, RI 02908 in his memory will be appreciated.
