Francisco Marques
1918-2008
Cumberland - Francisco Marques, 89, of Broad Street, Cumberland passed away Tuesday, May 20 in the Miriam Hospital, Providence.
He was the husband of Elza (Machado) Marques, they had been married for 60 years.
He was the son of the late Bernardino and Ana (Lemos) Marques. He resided in Cumberland for 33 years, previously residing in Providence.
He was a self-employed Cabinet Maker, and was the proprietor of the former Marques Woodcraft of Cumberland, retiring in 1994. He began woodworking at the age of 11 in Portgual.
Mr. Marques was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
Besides his beloved wife he leaves a son, Mario Marques of Costa Rica and a daughter, Eni Desmond of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Kim Pettella and Michael Pettella.
His funeral will be held Friday at 10 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindy invited. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Calling Hours will be respectfully omitted.

Raymond L. Pallante
1949 - 2008
Cumberland - Raymond L. Pallante, 59 of Columbia Drive, passed away Saturday, May 17, in Memorial Hospital of RI.
He was the husband of the late Maureen (O'Connor) Pallante.
Born January 17, 1949 in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Violetta (Vezenia) Pallante.
He resided in Cumberland for 25 years previously residing in Warwick.
He was a 1967 Graduate of Central High School.
He was employed by the Centrex Distribution of West Greenwich for three years, and was employed by Supervalue Distributors of Cumberland for many years.
He was a Communicant of St. Patrick Church, Cumberland..
He leaves his beloved daughter, Michaela Pallante of Cumberland; four brothers Anthony Pallante of Virginia, Michael Pallante and Joseph Pallante of Florida, and Robert Pallante of West Warick.
He was the brother of the late Jeannette Pallante and Cecelia Pallante.
His funeral will be held Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 9AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in the St. Patrick Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

Karen M. Gagnon
1962 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Karen M. Gagnon, 46 of Cadoret Dr., died Wednesday, in the Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket.
She was the wife of Paul Gagnon.
Born in Central Falls, RI, She was the daughter of the late William and Theresa (Sherry) Drezek.
She resided in Cumberland for the past 18 years.
She was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland.
She was employed by The Home Depot, South Attleboro, for the past 15 years.
Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Heather M. Gagnon and Ashley E. Gagnon both at home.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Olivia Augusto
1913 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Olivia Augusto, 94, formerly of Broad St., Cumberland died Sunday in Berkshire Place, Providence.
She was the wife of the late Jose Augusto.
Born in Penalva do Castelo, Portugal she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Rodrigues.
She came to this country in 1936 settling in Cumberland.
She and her late husband were co-owners of the former Big A Liquors, Broad St., Central Falls for over twenty years.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and a member of the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Cumberland.
She leaves a daughter, Carmen Augusto of Lincoln. One sister, Mary Ferreira of Cumberland and a brother, Fernando Augusto of Florida. She was also the mother of the late Dennis Augusto.
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Cumberland.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland.
Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.

Evelyn Traynor
1936 - 2008
SEEKONK, MA - Traynor, Evelyn died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Briarcliffe Manor, Johnston on Sunday, March 2nd.
She was the loving and devoted wife of James Traynor of Seekonk, MA.
They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on May 17th.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, she resided most of her life with her husband in Cumberland, RI moving to Seekonk sixteen years ago.
She was the daughter of the late Ida (Rock) Crawford-Truchon and George Crawford.
She was a cherished mother to her daughters Lisa A. Gagne and her husband, Francis of Pawtucket, RI and Leslie M. Moody and her husband, Paul 2nd of Barrington, RI.
She leaves behind five grandchildren whom she adored, Nicole J. Gagne of Pawtucket and Mathew J. Gagne also of Pawtucket, Paul E. Moody 3rd, James P. Moody and Thomas A. Moody all of Barrington. She also leaves her brother Robert Crawford and two sisters, Julia Fitton and Mary Perry and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was an accomplished professional who began her career at New England Telephone as an operator and rose through the organization becoming a Staff Manager in Boston, MA. until her retirement. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
She enjoyed traveling, boating and shopping. Until her illness, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Seekonk, MA.
Donations in her name may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9am from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122 Cumberland, RI.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited. Calling hours Wednesday from 6 to 9pm.

Alyce M. Prosser
1958 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Alyce M. Prosser, 49, of Diamond Hill Rd. died Monday in the Philip Hulitar Center, Providence.
She was the wife of James A. Prosser.
Born in Providence she was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Jacqueline (Lynch) Bacon.
She resided in Cumberland for the past 13 years previously residing in Central Falls.
She was president of Jac-Lyn Steel, Inc., Cumberland. She was previously employed as a Registered Nurse at the Memorial Hospital of R.I., Pawtucket.
She was the former president of NAWIC of R.I., and a member of the National Association of Women In Construction.
She was a co-founder of the RI Tradeswomen Council 1, Regional chairwoman of Tradeswomen Committee, Joint Apprentice Committee, of Ironworkers Local 37 and the RI Steel Erectors Board Member.
Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Meghan J. and Beth A. Prosser both of Cumberland.
One brother, James Bacon of North Providence and six half sisters.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland.

Mark A. Ring
1958-2008
Lincoln - Mark Anthony Ring, 49 of Ballou Avenue, passed away Saturday, at home.
He was the husband of Kathy (McDermott) Ring, they had been married for 24 years.
Born December 7, 1958 in East Providence, he was the son of the late Arthur and Hope (Davis) Ring.
He resided in Lincoln for 17 years, previously East Providence.
He was employed by the John W. Kennedy Company of East Providence for many years.
He leaves two sons, Mark Ring, and David Ring; and a daughter, Jennifer Ring all of Lincoln; three brothers, Arthur Ring of East Providence, Matthew Ring, and Luke Ring both of Rehobeth; four sisters, Mary Ring, Hope Melfi, and Joan Perry all of East Providence, and Monica Ring of Pawtucket.
He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Dawn Ring.
His funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 30, from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery.

Adelard F. "Del" Fontaine
1940 - 2008
Cumberland - Adelard F. Fontaine, 67, of Cumberland, died on Saturday afternoon surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born in Lincoln, Del is survived by his beloved mother, Loretta Fontaine of Cumberland, RI; his son Timothy Fontaine of Fuguay Varina, NC and daughter Kimberly Joubert of Lenexa, KS. A loving brother to Walter G. Fontaine, Jr of Narragansett (currently residing in China) and his five sisters, Rosemarie Depault of Lincoln, RI, Joan Steele of Cumberland, RI, Virginia Brandao of Woonsocket, RI, Susan DuBois of Cumberland, RI and Jacqueline Pignolet of Bellingham, Ma.
He also leaves behind 4 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who love and will miss him.
His funeral service will be held Thursday, February 21st at 11 a.m. in the J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Rt. 122, Cumberland. Burial will be private.

Paula F. Mekdsy

Cumberland - Paula F. (Collier)Mekdsy, 62 of Dexter St., died Tuesday, in the Memorial Hospital of RI.
She was the wife of Norman Mekdsy.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Annie (Keenan) Collier.
She was a lifelong Cumberland resident.
She was a teacher employed by the Cumberland School System for thirty two years, having spent most of that time at Cumberland High School. She retired in 2002.
She was a member of St. Aidan Seniors, ADK Sorority and the Red Hats.
She also loved travel and her time at the ocean.
Besides her husband she leaves a daughter; Anne-Marie Mekdsy of Cumberland.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, 8 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9.00 a.m. in the St. Joseph Church Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
