Valerio P. Mello
1915 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Valerio P. Mello, 92, of Diamond Hill Rd. died Monday in the Mt. St. Rita Health Center, Cumberland. He was the husband of the late Isabelle (Matta) Mello.
Born in Penalva do Castelo, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose B. P. and Maria R. (Ferreira) Melo. He came to this country in 1937 settling in New York later moving to Pawtucket. He resided in Cumberland for the past fifty six years.
He was the President of East Side Travel, Pawtucket since 1964. Previously he was the President of Beverage Hill Liquors, Pawtucket from 1951. to 1964.
While in Portugal he was a solider with the Portuguese Army. He was also a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II.
Mr. Mello was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Clube Madeirense and the Seven Castles Club of the Blackstone Valley.
He leaves three sons, Anthony and his wife Kelley Mello of North Smithfield, Carlos and his wife Teresa Mello of Weston, CT and Valerio and his wife Constance Mello of Cumberland. He also leaves seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. St. Rita Health Center, 15 Sumner Brown Rd., Cumberland, RI 02864.

Joseph A. Lamothe
1950 - 2008
CUMBERLAND - Joseph A. Lamothe, 57, of A St., died Saturday at home.
Born in Pawtucket he was the son of Florence (Lachapelle) Lamothe-Iannetta with; whom he made his home and the late Joseph H. Lamothe. He was a life long Cumberland resident.
He was an employee of the J & M Mower Sales and Service, Pawtucket for over thirty years.
He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Viet Nam era.
He was a music enthusiast and played keyboards with the band know locally as "The Scoundrels" for many years.
Besides his mother he leaves a son Jason A. Lamothe of Cumberland and a daughter Mellisa A. Barras of Winston, GA. Two sisters, Arlene F. Hendrick of Rensselaer, NY and Margaret A. Gariepy of Woonsocket. He also leaves six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Florence R. Desmarais.
A funeral with military honors will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will be private.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Robert A. "Bobby G" Gagne
1938-2008
Cumberland - Robert A. Gagne "Bobby G", of One Mendon Road, passed away on Friday in the Home and Hospice Care of RI, inpatient facility, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Linda N. (Dugan) Gagne.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son the late Adrien and Eleanor (Hart) Gagne. He resided in Cumberland for most of his life.
He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for the Armbust Chain Inc of Providence for many years retiring in 2000. After retirement he worked for Technic Inc, and Apollo Motors.
He was a member Country Music Association of Rhode Island, and the lead singer of Kitty and the Country Wanderers. He was a current treasurer of the One Mendon Road Tenants Association.
Besides his wife he leaves three sons Robert Gagne Jr., and Paul Gagne both of Riverside, James Gagne of Ware, MA; four daughters Joanne Benoit of New Hampshire, Robin Chaplin of Cranston, Colleen Girard of Woonsocket, and Debra David of Cumberland. He was the beloved step-father of the late Edward Doiron. He also leaves one brother, two sisters, seventeen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held Monday at 11 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland . Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Monday, from 9 AM to 11 AM .

Albertina DeJesus Rodrigues
1921 - 2008
Cumberland - Albertina DeJesus Rodrigues, 87, of High St. died Wednesday at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jose "Fainha" Rodrigues.
Born in Insua, Penalva doCastelo, Portugal she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria (DeJesus) Lopes. She came to this country in 1961 settling in Cumberland.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
She is survived by five daughters, Maria H. Nogueira, Madalena Principe and Olivia Bousquet all of Cumberland, Maria Gloria Walker and Carmen Rodrigues both of Lincoln. Two sons, Joao Manuel Rodrigues and Jose A. Rodrigues both of Cumberland. One sister, Maria DeJesus of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Theophile "Ted" Dubois
1914 - 2008
Cumberland - Theophile "Ted" Dubois, 93, of Circuit Dr. died Saturday in the Mt. St. Francis Health Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Marie (Gagnon) Dubois, they had been married for the past sixty six years.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Woonsocket he was the son of the late Ernest and Basalice (Ouellett) Dubois. He resided in Cumberland over sixty years.
He was a union carpenter working out of the Boston Carpenters Union for many years retiring in 1976. He was previously self employed building homes locally. He also built the Cumberland Community School playground in 1984.
He was a WW II, U. S. Navy veteran. He was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland and a member of the St. John Vianney Seniors and Bowling League.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Diane Daigle of Cumberland. Two granddaughters, Jacqueline Nunes of Michigan and Jennifer Cary of Pascoag, and five great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late J. Eugene Dubois, Alice Heroux, Ida Robilotto and Agnes Heroux.
A funeral with military honors will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.

Eugene A. St. Laurent
Cumberland - Eugene A. St. Laurent, 77, of Alton Ave. died Monday in the Oakland Grove Nursing Home, Woonsocket . He was the husband of Nancy Ann (Hamel) St. Laurent .
Born in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Eugene and Hattie (Lamy) St. Laurent . He lived in Cumberland for the past forty-four years, previously residing in Woonsocket .
He was employed as a manager by New England Telephone Co. for thirty-four years, retiring in 1992.
He was a U. S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany with the Seventh Army during the Korean War.
He was a daily communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church, Cumberland, and also frequently attended mass at St. James Church, Manville.
Besides his wife he leaves three sons, Paul and his wife Anne St . Laurent and their daughter Katelyn of Smithfield, John and his wife Lurdes St. Laurent and their children Kimberly, Jeffrey and Gregory of South Attleboro, David and his wife Danielle St. Laurent and their children Francine and Elliot of North Pole, AK, one daughter, Ann-Marie St. Laurent and her husband David Graham of Bolton, MA, two brothers, Normand St. Laurent of Woonsocket and Arthur St. Laurent of North Smithfield . He was also the brother of the late Lucille Delaware and Irene Baker.
Funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland . Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland . Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland .

Lucienne "Lucy" Benoit
1911-2008
CUMBERLAND - Lucienne "Lucy" Benoit (Masson), 96, formerly of Prospect Street, passed away Wednesday, April 16 in the Cortland Place Life Care Center, Greenville. She was the wife of the late Adelard Benoit.
Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Lucien and Marie (Massus) Masson. She was a life-long Cumberland resident.
She was a Communicant of St. Patrick Church. After retirement she enjoyed golfing with her husband.
She leaves two sons, Raymond Benoit of Woonsocket, and Robert Benoit of Fairhaven, MA. She also leaves four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Marcella Germaine Poissant, Yvonne F. Devaney, Albert M. Masson.
Her funeral will be held Friday, April 25, at 8 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in the St. Patrick Church, __ Broad Street, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Nancy D. Lind
1926-2008
Cumberland - Nancy D. Lind of formerly of Leonard Street passed away Monday, in the Woonsocket Health Center. She was the wife of the late Frank O. Lind Jr.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Butler) Dursin. She resided in Cumberland for most of her life, previously residing in Woonsocket.
She was a 1944 Graduate of Woonsocket High School, and a 1948 graduate of Julliard College, School of Music.
She was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church, where she was a CCD Teacher, and a member of the church choir. She also was a member of the Peloquin Choir, and was a noted singer in Woonsocket for many years, performing on various local radio stations.
She leaves three sons, Frank O. Lind III of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Lind of Providence, and Peter Lind of Lincoln; four daughters, Christine LaFlamme of Cumberland, Catherine Finstein of Warwick, Mary Poluvatzick of Cumberland, and Amy Kean of Warwick. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Michael P. Lind. She was the sister of the late Henry Dursin, Marilyn Ring, and Harriet Carpenter
Her funeral will be held Friday, April 25, at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket.
Relatives are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held 4-7 PM, Thursday, April 24.
