Joseph A. Papa
1913 - 2007
Cumberland - Joseph A. Papa, 93, of Mendon Rd. died Saturday in the Grandview Nursing Center. He was the husband of Helen (Manion) Papa.
Born in Cumberland he was the son of the late Dominico and Angela (Prete) Papa. He was a life long Cumberland resident.
He was employed by the former Owens Corning Fiberglas Corp., Cumberland for thirty four years retiring in in 1972.
He was a communicant of Historic St. Joseph Church, Cumberland and a member at the Cumberland Senior Center.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Joseph P. Papa of Easton, MD and Thomas L. Papa of North Smithfield. He also leaves four grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was the father of the late Joann Bechard and brother of the late Marie Iannetta, Carmine, Sylvester and Antonio Papa.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cumberland.

Leo H. Plante
1917 - 2007
Cumberland - Leo H. Plante, 90, of Dexter St. died Saturday in the Oak Hill Nursing Center, Pawtucket.
Born in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Joseph and Anne (McGuill) Plante. He resided in Cumberland for the past eighteen years previously residing in Woonsocket.
He leaves a brother, David E. Plante of Upton, MA and several nieces and nephews among them Deborah Plante of Punta Gorda, FL.
His funeral will be held Monday, November 5th at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John The Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will be private.

William H. Walsh
1932 - 2007
Cumberland - William H. Walsh, 75, of Old Mendon Rd. and Matunuck, died Sunday in Palermo, ME. He was the husband of Florence (Jolly) Walsh.
Born in Cumberland he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Fanning) Walsh. He was a life long Cumberland resident. He and his family had summered in Matunuck for many years.
He was the owner of the Walsh Electric Co., Cumberland for fifty two years until his retirement. He was also a co-owner of the former R & W Snowmobile Co.
He was a U. S. Navy, Korean War veteran. He was a member of the Israel Couture Post VFW, and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick both of Cumberland. He was also a member of the NRA. He was a founder of the Blackstone Valley Snowmobile Club.
Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Rona Walsh of Johnston and Robyn Walsh of Cumberland. He also leaves a grandson, Deven Thystrup of Johnston.
A funeral with military honors will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will be private.

F. Robert McCarthy
1937 - 2007
Narragansett - F.Robert McCarthy, age 70, on November 2, passed peacefully at home. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and all around wonderful person. Born in Pawtucket, R.I. on August 7, 1937. He was employed at Swank, Inc. as a salesman for over 40 years and most recently worked as a business banking officer with Citizen’s Bank. He enjoyed sports, especially golf and watching football. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his many friends and family members. Some of his happiest moments were spent playing with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa. He will be missed by many, especially his life-long companion, friend and wife, Carol, to whom he was married for 45 years. He was an extraordinary patriarch and passed on quality family values for generations to come. He is survived by his wife, sons, Kevin of Marblehead, MA, Kirk of Cumberland, James of Richmond and his daughter, Karen of Gloucester, R.I. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Megan, Nicholas and Brynn.

Billy Joe Littleton
1925 ~ 2007
Cumberland - Billy Joe Littleton, 82, of Mayflower Dr. died Tuesday in the Hebert Nursing Home, Smithfield. He was the husband of Constance (Drolet) Littleton.
Born in Cape Girardeau, MO he was the son of the late Joe and Lela (McClard) Littleton. He resided in Cumberland for the past forty two years.
He was a painting contractor for thirty two years and has also been employed by the Cumberland School Department for eight years.
Mr. Littleton was a twenty year, U. S. Navy veteran having served during WW II, Korea and Viet Nam.
He was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church and a member of the church Men's Club. He was a a member of the Pawtucket Fleet Reserve Association. He also an avid golfer.
Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Leslie Littleton of West Warwick and a son, Brian Littleton of Cranston. One brother, Gene Littleton of Cape Girardeau, MO and three sisters, Wanda Goodman, Yvetta Barnhart both of Cape Girardeau, MO and Peggy Sue Kaufman of McClure, IL. He also leaves one grandson, William Littleton of Cranston.

Renee & Emily Niver

Spencer, NY - Renee (Moreau) Niver, 30, and her 2 year old daughter, Emily, died Wednesday, November 14, as a result of injuries in an auto accident in Van Etten, NY. They were the wife and daughter of Todd Niver and had resided in Spencer for over four years.
Renee was born in Woonsocket and had been raised in Manville. She was the daughter of Laurent and Susan (Guilbert) Moreau of Manville.
Renee was a Team Leader in the Health Care Division of Bridges, Cornell Heights, NY.
Renee was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend who is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jacques and Kristin Moreau of Cumberland; a nephew Andrew Moreau; maternal grandparents, Edgar and Medora (LeClerc) Guilbert of Bellingham and several aunts and uncles, including Rev. Maurice Moreau. She was also the paternal granddaughter of the late Marc and Gertrude (Labrie) Moreau.
Emily is survived by her father Todd Niver, and her father’s and mother’s relatives. Her paternal grandmother, Marjorie Niver, died in Rochester, Wednesday, November 14, 2007, the same day as Emily. Her paternal grandfather Richard Niver, was previously deceased.
Their funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.

Germaine L. Berard
1936 - 2007
Central Falls - Berard, (Richard) Germaine, 71 of Central Falls died Friday, November 16, 2007 at RI Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of Maurice Berard for 51 years. She was employed at the Central Falls School Department for over 17yrs before recently retiring.
She will be sadly missed by her seven children. Elizabeth Hart, Gerald Berard, Diane Sharkey, Peter Berard, David Berard, Christine Collins and Marc Berard and her 19 grandchildren. She was the sister of Real Richard, Gisele Vigeant, Therese Morin, Jeannine Voyer, Normand Richard, Peter Richard, Doris Kerman, Madeline Kiras, Pierette Robert, John Richard and the late Claude Richard.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday November 20 at 8:30 a.m. from the Duffy Funeral Home at 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. St. Matthew’s Church, Dexter Street, Central Falls. Filomena D. Guerra
1924 - 2007
Cumberland - Filomena D. Guerra, 83, of Roland St. died Friday at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Guerra. They were happily married for 62 years.
Born in the Valley Falls section of Cumberland she was the daughter of the late Joaquim and Delfina (Guerra) Duarte. She resided in Freixo da Serra, Portugal, returning to the United States with her family in 1954 settling in Cumberland. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Cumberland Senior Center and the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Cumberland.
She was the beloved mother of Maria L. Gomes and her husband Frank of Johnston, Valdemar D. Guerra and his wife Rosa of Cumberland, Sandie Guerra Dean and her husband James of Lincoln and Marcia Elderkin and her husband Peter of Cumberland. She was the loving grandmother of Debbie Stubbs, David Gomes, Susan Dean, Jessica Goldstein, Aimee Guerra, Caitlin Martin and Matthew Elderkin. She also leaves six great grandchildren.

Muriel A. Dagesse

Harrisville - Muriel A. Dagesse, 67 of Collins Taft Road, passed away Saturday surrounded by her family in the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of Lucien Dagesse.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Germaine (Lariviere) Lafond.
Beside her husband she leaves two sons, Brian Dagesse and James Dagesse and his wife Diane, two daughters Lynn Gauvin and her husband Peter and Renay Shugrue and her husband Bob. Four brothers Ernest, Leo, Robert and Ronald Lafond. Four sisters Lucielle Paquette, Janet Contre, Claire Berard and Arlene Richard. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Normand Lafond.
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9:15 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
