WILLIAM A. WHEATON JR. - Attleboro
WILLIAM A. WHEATON JR., 66, of Ambrosia Lane, Bourne, Mass., a retired customer-service representative, died Saturday at Falmouth (Mass.) Hospital after a 12-week illness.
He was the husband of Marion T. (Trima) Wheaton. They had been married
for 45 years. Born on Aug. 16, 1935, in Attleboro, a son of the late William A. Sr. and Ruth E. (Kinney) Wheaton, he had resided in Bourne for 20 years, having moved to Cape Cod from Plainville, Mass.
Mr. Wheaton was a customer representative and was employed in the production-control departments at Texas Instruments in Attleboro for 37 years, retiring in 1997.
He had a private pilot's license, enjoyed snowmobiles and was an antique-car enthusiast.
Mr. Wheaton was a veteran of the Coast Guard, serving from 1952 to 1956, and a member of VFW Post 5988, Bourne. He was a 1954 graduate of Attleboro high school.
Besides his wife, he leaves a niece, Deborah A. Long of North Attleboro; two nephews, Robert J. Wills of Worcester, Mass., and David L. Trima of North Attleboro; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was the father of the late Barbara Ann Wheaton, and stepbrother of the late Arthur V. Wheaton.
The funeral service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Commonwealth Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Attleboro Falls. Burial will be in Stevens Corner cemetery, Rehoboth.

MARY ANN (RAUCCI) HIGSON - Charlestown
MARY ANN (RAUCCI) HIGSON, 83, of Port Richey, Fla., and Charlestown, died Friday at South Bay Manor, South Kingstown.
She was the wife of Kenneth Higson. They had been married
more than 50 years. Born and raised in Peabody, Mass., a daughter of the late Lodovico "Tony" and Josephine (Melfi) Raucci, she had lived in Peabody for more than 50 years before moving to Florida and Charlestown in 1977.
In Florida, Mrs. Higson was a member of the Women's Guild and did volunteer work as well as serving as a Eucharistic minister at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, New Port Richey. Before that, she had been active in square dancing in the Danvers area for 15 years.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Virginia Keaveny of Charlestown; four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eugene Raucci, Lena Ferguson and Frieda Splaine.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. from Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody, with a Mass at 11 in St. John's Church, Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery, Peabody.

CATHERINE M. PEPIN - Coventry
CATHERINE M. PEPIN, 64, of Eisenhower Street, a retired assembler, died Friday at Rhode Island Hospital after an illness.
She was the wife of Robert J. Pepin. Born in Lewiston, Maine, a daughter of the late Harold P. and Fayelyn M. (Cousens) Gagne, she had lived in Coventry for 20 years, previously living in Warwick.
She was an assembler at the former Victor Electric for seven years, retiring in 1990.
Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, Norma M. Gagnon of Providence, Shirley A. Graham of Warwick, and Ann Marie D. Thayer and Jackie L. Gill, both of Coventry; three sons, Robert E. Gagne of East Providence, Earl H. Hawkins of Warwick and Wilfred J. Pepin of Coventry; two sisters, Mary Deady of Warwick and Bernice Davis in Texas; and 17 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She was the sister of the late Harold, Ivan, Richard and Delmont Gagne, Haroldine Gauvin, Beverly Balch, Thelma Thibedau and Sharon Bryant.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. in Robert A. Iannotti & Sons Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., Route 117. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans cemetery, Exeter.

JOHN E. MATTHEWS JR. - Coventry
JOHN E. MATTHEWS JR., 73, of Old Summit Road, a retired self-employed plumber and business owner, and volunteer firefighter, died Saturday at home.
He was the husband of the late Carol (Dorothy) Matthews. Born on Nov. 13, 1928, in Warwick, he was a son of the late John E. Sr. and Ethel (Klamner) Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a self-employed plumber and pump salesman and installer for his business, Summit Service. After retirement, he opened Summit Firearms. He had also worked for Electric Boat in Groton, Conn.
He was a volunteer firefighter for the Western Coventry Fire Department for many years. He was a constable for the West Warwick Police Department, and director of the Summit Free Library.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a part president and lifetime member of the Rhode Island Fish and Game Protective Association, and a member of the Sportsmen's Alliance of Maine and the NRA.
He leaves two sons, James and John C. Matthews, both of Coventry; six daughters, Shirley Matthews, Sheila Harrington, Sherri Simmons and Carol Fallon, all of Coventry, Cathy Giles of Dexter, Maine, and Caryn Hey of Foster; three brothers, Arthur Matthews in Oklahoma, Michael Matthews in Delaware and Richard Matthews in Maryland; and 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be private.

EUGENE J. BRADY JR. - Cranston
EUGENE J. BRADY JR., 82, of North Bourne's Pond Road, East Falmouth, Mass., a retired Polaroid Corp. engineer and executive, died Saturday at home of complications from cancer.
He was the husband of Margaret Mary (Desmond) Brady. They had been married
for 53 years. He was born in New York City in 1919 and was raised in Cranston, where he attended local schools. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1942 as a mechanical engineer. He excelled at swimming and track, and was captain of the MIT varsity track team.
He worked as a mechanical-design engineer before joining Polaroid in 1951, where he became a manufacturing engineer. Over an extensive career, he helped bring about many model changes in Poleroid cameras, including various technological innovations.
Commissioned as a captain in the Army after college, he served overseas during World War II with the forces of General MacArthur, from the southwest Pacific to the Philippines, and was ultimately part of the initial occupation forces in Japan.
He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts. While at Polaroid, his family had lived in Norwood, Mass., and had a second home in East Falmouth on Cape Cod. There the family belonged to the Falmouth Yacht Club.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Dorothy J. Williams of Wellesley, Mass., Deborah K. Damiano of Plymouth, Mass., and Jeanne F. Brady of Media, Pa.; a son, John J. Brady of Plymouth; a brother, James Brady of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Marjorie Murphy of Milford, Conn., and Patricia Conway of Warwick; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth Center, with a Mass at 10 in St. Anthony's Church, Route 28, East Falmouth. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans cemetery, Bourne.

GUILHERMINA R. MELLO - East Providence
GUILHERMINA R. MELLO, 96, of 1357 Wampanoag Trail, a retired assembler, died yesterday at Orchard View Manor.
She was the wife of the late Joao S. Mello. Born in Lagoa, Sao Miguel, the Azores, a daughter of the late Joao and Maria Conceicao (Soares) Rego, she had lived in East Providence for 42 years.
She was an assembler for the American Insulated Wire Co. for nine years, retiring in 1964.
She leaves a daughter, Natalia Cabral of Riverside; three sons, John M. Mello of East Providence, Anthony R. Mello of Seekonk and Joseph R. Mello of Sarasota, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Arnoldo Mello.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven cemetery.

DORILDA (PAQUIN) HALL - Fall River
DORILDA (PAQUIN) HALL, 88, of 2446 Highland Ave., formerly of Robeson Street and 111 Borden St., died yesterday at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Horace Nelson Hall. Born in Tiverton, a daughter of the late Omer and Hermine (Levesque) Paquin, she had lived in Fall River most of her life.
She was a former member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the St. William Parish Guild.
She leaves a sister, Ida Acton of San Jose, Calif., and nieces and nephews, including Michelle Bolduc of Warwick, Patricia Bolduc of New Bedford and Edward Bolduc of Westport. She was the sister of the late Viola Rochefort, Angeline Kay, Jeannette Roberts, Lucille T. Bolduc, Irene Dupont, and Leo, Rudolph, Pete and Almeda Paquin.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., with a Mass at 9:30 in the chapel of Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Ave. Burial will be in Notre Dame cemetery.
