ARLENE I. (IANERO) SMYTH - Johnston
ARLENE I. (IANERO) SMYTH, 58, of Roselle, Ill., a sales specialist for World Book Inc., died Wednesday in the St. Alexius Medical Center, Chicago.
She was the wife of Patrick H. Smyth. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John and Lucy (DiMeo) Ianero, she had lived in Johnston before moving to Chicago in 1969.
Mrs. Smyth was a sales representative for World Book Inc. She had previously worked as a secretary for Gilbane Construction Co. and The Rhode Island Reading Institute, and as a legal secretary for her husband.
A graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, she had attended Johnson & Wales University and earned her associate's degree from the College of Du Page, Glen-Ellyn, Ill.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Patrick and Sean Smyth; a sister, Patricia Germani of Smithfield; and a brother, John Ianero in Florida.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road. Burial was private.

BERNARD F. BEAUREGARD - Lincoln
BERNARD F. BEAUREGARD, 70, of Angel Rd., a retired postal worker, died Sunday in Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence.
He was the husband of Ruth Ann (Lepore) Beauregard; they had been married
for 48 years. Born in Toxton Falls, Canada, a son of the late Henry F. and Evelena (Poiters) Beauregard, he had lived in North Providence before settling in Lincoln 40 years ago.
Mr. Beauregard had been a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, at the Turnkey Office in Providence, for 20 years before he retired in 1975.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as an Airborne ranger. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Mr. Beauregard was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. .
Mr. Beauregard had earned a third-degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do from the East Coast Tae Kwon Do Association.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Bernard L. Beauregard of Woonsocket and Kenneth W. Beauregard of Lincoln; a daughter, Denise M. Lawson of Foster; a brother, Paul Beauregard of Woonsocket; a sister, Marie Scholle of Fairbanks, Alaska; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave., Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Mary Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth St., North Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.

JOHN E. McNAMARA - Narragansett
JOHN E. McNAMARA, 51, of Harbor Island Road, an owner of Hanson's Landing and Ocean State Traders, died yesterday at home.
Born in Worcester, Mass., a son of the late John and Eleanor (Daley) McNamara, he had lived in the South County area since 1986.
Mr. McNamara was the owner of Ocean State Traders, Narragansett, co-owner and manager of Hanson's Landing, Wakefield, and a former coowner of Concepts 4, Beverly, Mass.
He leaves a son, John E. McNamara III of Providence; two daughters, Katie E. McNamara of Denver, Colo., and Margaret M. McNamara of Wakefield; and a companion, Ellen L. Boyle of Narragansett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Point Judith Road. Burial will be private.

PATRICIA (OLIVEIRA) HAMEL - Fall River
PATRICIA (OLIVEIRA) HAMEL, 64, of Rolling Green Drive, died Sunday at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Robert L. Hamel. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Mendes) Oliveira, she had lived in Fall River for most of her life.
Mrs. Hamel was a member of the Fall River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, and had been active with Citizens for Citizens.
She leaves a daughter, Cynthia Vezina of Uxbridge, Mass.; a son, Robert J. Hamel, two sisters, Marie Cordeiro and Isabel Paulino, and a brother, Bernard Oliveira, all of Fall River; and several grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph Rogers.
A service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 100 North Eastern Ave.

MADELINE D. McARDLE - Providence
MADELINE D. McARDLE, of Beneficent House, Chestnut Street, a former statistician, died Sunday at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late William F. and Annie G. (Prior) McArdle, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
She was a statistician for the Rhode Island Health Department for 39 years before retiring.
Miss McArdle was a charter member of the State Retirees Union Chapter 94. She was a past president of the AARP's Rhode Island Hospital Chapter 50, and a 35-year member of the Providence College Chapter of the Third Order of St. Dominic. She was a member of the former St. Aloysius Home, Greenville.
In 1983, she was chosen by Sen. Claiborne Pell to participate in the Congressional Senior Citizen Intern Program in Washington, D.C.
She was a graduate of the former St. Xavier Academy.
She leaves four nieces, Barbara McArdle of Barrington, Marcia Clayton Maloney of East Greenwich, Anne Clayton Carey of Glocester and Judith Clayton Samson of West Kingston; a nephew, John C. Clayton III of Ravena, N.Y.; and five grandnieces and three grandnephews. She was the sister of the late Gertrude M. Clayton and William F. McArdle Jr.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from Monahan-Kelly Drabble-Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in the Lady Chapel of Holy Name Church, Camp Street. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery, Pawtucket.

ALICE E. (LaCROIX) DAVIS - Burrillville
ALICE E. (LaCROIX) DAVIS, 76, formerly of 686 Reservoir Rd., a retired dietary supervisor, died Wednesday in Roger Williams Medical Center after an illness.
She was the wife of the late James H. Davis Sr. Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Phillip and Angelina (Losille) LaCroix, she had lived at Wildflowers by the Water nursing home, Smithfield, for a year.
Mrs. Davis worked as a dietary supervisor in the Eleanor Slater Hospital Zambarano Unit, retiring in 1989. She had also worked as a sewer in the Uxbridge/Worcested Mill, Pascoag.
She was a member of Queen of Sheba, and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pascoag Hose Company 2 and the Youth Guidance Association of Pascoag. She was a den mother of Cub Scouts Pack 1 in Pascoag, and a Pascoag Brownie leader.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Democratic Town Committee. She attended Burrillville schools.
She leaves two sons, James H. Davis Jr. of Harmony and Russell R. Davis Sr. of Pascoag; a daughter, Judith A. Ebersole of Yorkville, Ill.; a brother, James LaCroix in California; three sisters, Marie A. Joubert of Pascoag, Georganna Newton of Fredericksburg, Va., and Irene Watt in California; and 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late George and Leo LaCroix, Rita Lafond and Rose Steiner.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave., Pascoag, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Joseph Church, Pascoag. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery, Pascoag.

MATTHEW A. CAPONE - Bristol
MATTHEW A. CAPONE, 88, of 88 Peck Ave., a retired Army colonel and science teacher, died Wednesday at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.
He was the husband of Elvira (Fusco) Capone. Born in New York City, a son of the late Matthew and Elizabeth (Leone) Capone, he was a lifelong resident of Bristol.
e was a science teacher at Bristol High School for 40 years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. After graduating from the former Rhode Island State College, now the University of Rhode Island, in 1935 with a bachelor's degree, he was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the school's ROTC program. He served in the infantry and Chemical Corps in North Africa, Sicily and England.
After graduating from the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga., he served on the faculty of that school. He was also a graduate of the Command and Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and of the Chemical Biological Radiological School at Fort McClellan, Ala.
He also served in the Army Reserve as commander of the 479th Chemical Battalion in Bristol, and was commandant of the Chemical, Biological and Radiological School at Fort Drum, N.Y.
He was director of educational media and technology for the Bristol School Department. From 1966 to 1974, he was Bristol's civil-defense director. He volunteered for 23 years at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, where he developed a closed-circuit TV system and other audiovisual facilities.
He was a member of the Anthony Almeida VFW Post 237, and a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Claire Andrade of Bristol and Mattie Procaccini of Glen Burnie, Md.; a sister, Frances C. Buteau of Warwick; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Lucien and Domenic Capone, Filomena Romano, Claire Conigilo and Marguerite Bellocchio.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, State Street. Burial with military honros will be in St. Mary cemetery.
