FRANK E. BERNIER - Cranston
FRANK E. BERNIER, 83, of Woodmont Drive, a former retail manager, died yesterday at Cedar Crest Nursing Home.
He was the husband of Rose Y. (Booklender) Bernier. Born in Providence, a son of the late Felix and Mary (Currier) Bernier, he had lived in Providence before settling in Cranston 50 years ago.
Mr. Bernier had been a manager in the shoe department of the former Sears, Roebuck Co., now Sears, until retiring in 1980.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife, he leaves several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Weston and Carl and John Bernier.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Smithfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 in Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Drive. Burial will be in St. Ann cemetery.

LAURA ZANNELLA - Cranston
LAURA ZANNELLA, 74, of Atwood Avenue, owner of the former Lujon Casting, died yesterday in Briarcliff Manor Nursing Home, Johnston.
She was the wife of the late Louis Zannella. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Bartolomeo and Raffaela (DiFuscio) Paparelli, she had lived in Cranston for many years. Mrs. Zanella had been the owner and treasurer of Lujon Casting of Cranston for 40 years, until retiring in 1995.
She is survived by a sister, Jennie Colaluca of Smithfield; three grandchildren, Louis Zannella III of Worcester, Mass., Christopher Zannella of Cranston and Domenic Zannella of Providence; and a great-granddaughter. She was the mother of the late Louis Zannella Jr., and a sister of the late Joseph Paparelli, Elissa Martellucci and Mary Thorpe.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Rocco Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Ann cemetery.

MARTHA E. CHRISTY - Cranston
MARTHA E. CHRISTY, 76, of Davis Avenue, a retired bakery and factory worker, died Monday in Heritage Hills Nursing Centre, Smithfield.
She was the wife of the late James A. Christy. Born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Clause and Ruth (Bagley) Perry, she had lived in Cranston for 39 years. Mrs. Christy had worked at the former A&P; Warehouse Bakery for 24 years before retiring in 1987, and had also worked as an assembler at the former Elmwood Sensors.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean P. Christy of Smithfield and Julie A. Vellucci of Coventry; a brother, Charles Roberts in Connecticut; four grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mark Church, Garden Court. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans cemetery, Exeter.

THERESA M. FISHER - East Providence
THERESA M. FISHER, 74, of 3663 Pawtucket Ave., Harborview, a retired billing clerk, died yesterday at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.
She was the wife of the late Alan A. Fisher Sr. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Aldor and Eva (Cloutier) Cloutier, she was a lifelong resident of East Providence.
Mrs. Fisher had worked as a billing clerk at the Trifari Jewelry Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1992.
She was an avid gardener and a Red Sox fan.
She leaves a son, Alan A. Fisher Jr. of Rehoboth; four daughters, Gail A. Fisher of Hope Valley and Faith D. Fisher, Lynn S. Miller and Brenda J. Connell, all of East Providence; a brother, Henri "Pete" Cloutier of East Providence; and seven grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Irenee and Aldor Cloutier.
A service of remembrance will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside. Burial will be private.

MARGUERITE A. AYOTTE-WHALEN - Lincoln
MARGUERITE A. AYOTTE-WHALEN, 64, of Railroad Street, Manville, owner of the former Catering By Marguerite, died Monday at the Hospice Care of Rhode Island Intake Center.
She was the wife of Dennis J. Whalen. Born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Donat and Claire (Dupont) Comire, she had lived in Johnston before moving to the Manville section of Lincoln 12 years ago.
Besides the Johnston-based catering business that she had owned and operated until retiring in 1992, Mrs. Ayotte-Whalen had been the owner of the former D&M; Variety, in Johnston, and had worked as a waitress at Julio's Restaurant, in North Providence.
She was a member and past treasurer of Emblem Club 434, Smithfield.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, David P. Ayotte of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Linda G. Devine of Cumberland and Donna V. Ayotte of Hampton, Conn.; two brothers, Paul E. and Marcel G. Comire, and a sister, Viola K. Griffin, all of Manville; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Smithfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. James Church, 33 Division St., Manville, in Lincoln. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans cemetery, Exeter.

ELEANOR M. LEONARD - Middletown
ELEANOR M. LEONARD, 95, of Blenheim-Newport, 303 Valley Rd., a retired elementary-school teacher, died Sunday at the Grand Islander Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late James Leonard. Born in Pawtucket on Dec. 4, 1905, the daughter of the late John and Kathleen (Coyle) McAlevy, she was raised and educated in Pawtucket, and had also lived in East Providence and Portsmouth before moving to Middletown.
Mrs. Leonard was a graduate of Pawtucket High School and of Rhode Island College, where she became a Certified Reading Specialist.
She had taught at elementary schools in the Barrington and East Providence public school systems for 25 years, before retiring in 1971.
Mrs. Leonard was a member of the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center.
She leaves two sons, John Leonard of Ashville, N.C., and Vincent Leonard of Londonderry, N.H.; three daughters, Katherine Thacker of East Providence, Barbara Leonard of Arlington, Mass., and Mildred Leonard of Waukegan, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late James Leonard and Patricia Leonard, and a close friend of the late Frank Flaherty.
The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Barnabas Church, East Main Road. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, Pawtucket.

JEFFREY L. D'ALMEIDA - Pawtucket
JEFFREY L. D'ALMEIDA, 23, of South Seventh Street, Lindenhurst, N.Y., and formerly of Pawtucket, a supervisor, died unexpectedly Friday at home. The state medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of his death.
He was the fiancé of Amy Rossetti of Lindenhurst. Born in Pawtucket, a son of Arnaldo L. and Francelina (Almeida) D'Almeida, he had lived on Hicks Street in Pawtucket before he moved to New York two years ago.
A 1996 graduate of Shea High School, he had attended Rhode Island College and Teikyo Post University, in Waterbury, Conn.
Mr. D'Almeida had been employed as a supervisor at Olympus America, in Melville, N.Y., for the past two years.
He was a former member of Fourth Baptist Church, in Providence.
Besides his parents and his fiancée, he leaves two sisters, Louise and Silvia D'Almeida, a brother, Moses D'Almeida, and his paternal grandparents, Manuel and Luisa M. (Almeida) Almeida, all of Pawtucket; his maternal grandparents, Maria Fonseca of Pawtucket and Joao DaLomba of East Providence; and several nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Fourth Baptist Church, 734 Hope St., Providence. Burial will follow in the family lot at Swan Point cemetery, Providence.
